A total chest-thumping macho-fest........2007-08-08
Here's the thing. You expect the big, sexy, strong, lethal, Lori Foster alpha heroes to be perfect. Macho machines all the way to the bedroom, and then some... Clint is all that (pant, swoon), but he has one teensy little endearing fault. He pukes, every time he beats up the bad guys! He just can't stand hurting people, although at the time he is beating them up it's his protect and defend thingie kicking in heroically. Aww. Julie Rose (remember her, the sweet yet determined school teacher from Say No To Joe?) has been kidnapped and held for ransom. The ex-fiancé sends Clint and his team to rescue her, which they do, of course. So the first time Julie sees Clint he's a human demolition team, single-handedly annihilating all her tormenting kidnappers, enraged because he's seen them rip her clothes away and threaten to rape her. And then - he pukes...! Moving on. Given he's a big bad `safe' goodie and Julie's been completely traumatized, she kinda clingwraps herself to him and won't let go. Even in bed, where she discovers he's, er, a bit bigger to handle than most men! When the politics behind the snatch get complicated, Julie's ex suggests Clint keep her safe a while longer. She's soooo okay with that, but he's reluctant. For a while, anyway, to the hilarity of his all-knowing sidekicks. With Joe (sigh) and Jamie Creed making cameo appearances (and the rest of the gang from Visitation), you'll be cheering for all the boys! A total chest-thumping macho-fest.

Kidnapping, murder and mystery.......2006-03-09
This novel tell the story of Clint and Julie. Clint is hired to find Julie after she is kidnapped. In the process of solving the puzzle they find they are perfect match. Lori Foster brings in all the old characters from Visitation. I am off to find more of the Visitation series which I am reading out of order....
A Thoroughly Entertaining Read.......2005-07-28
Lori, Lori, Lori. Her books are always a delight. Just a hint Clint, does not disappoint. If you're not a Lori Foster fan, it's time to jump on the bandwagon. This is Chick Lit extraordinare.
Clint is somebody you won't want to miss!.......2005-06-28
I'm one of those types that usually likes to read things in order. I've enjoyed the "Visitation Series" out of order though. I've already read the rest of them, this weekend it was Clint's turn. I wasn't disappointed to have read him last either.
He's one of those hunky heros with the dark hair, graying at the temples, hard as nails, sexy as they come. The 'take no prisoners' kind of men. And while I'm in the midst of my own puddle of drool, I get to see that Clint Evans has a vulnerable side to boot. Now, who doesn't like a tough guy with a soft inner core?
Clint is hired to rescue Juile Rose. She's a sensible school teacher. Sort of a plain-jane. Not much exciting going on there. Well, except for the fact that she was kidnapped, pushed around, and starved half-to-death. Other than that, she's pretty darned normal.
But, the minute Clint sets his sights on her he realizes he doesn't really want to bring her back to her ex-fiance. He wants to keep her for himself. And what Clint wants, Clint usually gets.
Julie Rose has plenty of experience with big, gorgeous, alpha males. After all, she does live in Visitation. But, none of those men had ever sparked a heat in her body. None of those men had ever held her as she wept, braided her hair when she was too weak to do it herself, or made her want to both smack him silly and love him senseless. Clint Evans does all those things, and more.
Clint is a one-of-kind Hero that will make you simply melt and wish you were Julie. 'nuff said.

The idea of social capital is increasingly prominent in international, national, and local policy-making and in the social sciences. However, its rapid rise to prominence has not been matched by proper scrutiny of the idea and its consequences. This book provides the first full critical analysis of social capital, written by authors from a wide range of disciplinary and policy backgrounds. Investment products that deploy ethical values and social considerations in portfolio construction have persisted since the 1980s. Pitting Habermasian discourse ethics against Foucauldian power relations and radical institutionalism, the paper argues that socially directed mutual funds ascribe capital markets with validities of high moral magnitude, work up extant tendencies toward financial hegemony and stymie criticism of the political-economic order. Institutional pressures do not permit the exercise of an ethic stronger than an aesthetic care of the self. The balance struck between economic and social priorities is investigated by interviewing investment managers, reviewing archival material and surveying the attitudes of unit holders in retail social mutual funds.

In this paper, firstly the present-day fair value accounting for financial instruments is placed in a proper historical perspective by outlining various specific forms of what may generally be regarded as ''value-based accounting.'' This is followed by an argument to distinguish between inherently different concepts of capital in economic theory, i.e. real capital and loan/fictitious capital, in order to identify the economic foundations of the contemporary form of value-based accounting. The paper goes on to explain that the contemporary accounting problems concerning financial instruments/derivatives are but a manifestation of the failure of the traditional framework of corporate accounting to adapt to the accelerating development of fictitious capital. It is then argued that the existing framework for accounting recognition and measurement or any simple extension of the framework, such as the ''realizability'' criteria advocated by the FASB, cannot be expected to provide the theoretical basis for the contemporary accounting for financial instruments. This argument would lead us to study the possibility of coexistence or hybridization of the different frameworks of capital/income determination reflecting the difference in their economic foundations. And finally, the paper underlines the importance of economic and historical perspectives in addressing the issues of contemporary value-based accounting as a social science of accounting. Supplementary discussions are provided in Appendix A on the need for another framework of accounting where financial assets/liabilities are concerned, and in Appendix B on a choice of economic theories and the respective accounting perspectives which they offer.

It offers a frank and in-depth review of the progress thus far, with particular focus on the role and effectiveness of the Bank¡¯s support, drawing from extensive discussions with national stakeholders in Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRSP) countries, research and analytical work, and country case study reports on ten PRSP countries: Albania, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Guinea, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Vietnam.
The author of The Poverty Reduction Strategy Initiative concludes that the Initiative has led to improvements in national strategies and processes in some low-income countries, such as an increased poverty focus, a higher profile for monitoring results, and better donor-government dialogue. However, the contribution to broad poverty reduction, especially in more difficult country environments, is largely in jeopardy without significant changes. The author argues that the Initiative should be reoriented toward improving domestic processes and less on completion of documents, customizing the approach to particular country circumstances, filling analytical gaps to better understand which actions will provide the greatest poverty pay-off, and making sure the assistance programs of external partners are anchored in the country's poverty reduction strategy.
