The personal stories about the people who developed the business are especially enjoyable--some of the most interesting are
about founders of major brokerages and those associated with
problems at Lloyds of London in the eighties.
I recommend this book to insurance and business professionals and to general readers with interest in American history.

It has an extensive bibliography and a comprehensive index that make it especially useful as a source of information.
A remarkable book.......2003-04-15
John Bogardus and Robert Moore have clearly spent considerable time researching this material and their "real life" experience in the field shines through beautifully. This book is incredibly valuable to people in the insurance field. However, it is written in a way that also appeals to the person who is simply curious about business, history, and life in general.
The book does a great job of demonstrating how the insurance business (in the past, and now ) affects all of us.

The question of the effectiveness or counter-productivity of foreign aid is one of the great issues facing the world today. This volume arose from a study conducted for an inter-governmental task force. The team surveyed the published literature, reviewed existing evaluations of aid projects, and undertook seven detailed country studies. The basic finding is that the majority of aid succeeds in terms of its own objectives and obtains a reasonable rate of return. At the same time, this book analyses the frequent failings of aid projects, compares these failings with other forms of private and public investment, and proposes measures for improving aid effectiveness. New to this edition: For the second edition the book has been shortened, removing mainly the more technical parts. The data in the text and tables have been brought up to date, the text has been revised, and each chapter has a new section added reviewing the areas of debate and research findings since 1986. The bibliography has also been updated.|

This is the study guide for "Macroeconomics". The goal of this study guide is to help you learn the material in the textbook efficiently and effectively. The best way to learn material that is analytical or numerical in nature, as is the case with much of the textbook, is to work as many problems as possible. So, much of this study guide consists of multiple-choice questions, review questions, numerical problems, and analytical questions to help you prepare. You may want to work some of the problems after you've read the chapter and attended your class lecture, or you may want to simulate exam conditions, trying to answer the questions without looking at your notes. In all cases, the answers are given to you, though you may also need to refer back to the textbook where the material appears. The textbook, itself, provides an introduction to Macroeconomics and the measurement and structure of the national economy. It covers long-run economic performance, business cycles and macroeconomic policy, and Macroeconomic policy: its environments and institutions.|
