Book Description
This book is about database security and auditing. You will learn many methods and techniques that will be helpful in securing, monitoring and auditing database environments. It covers diverse topics that include all aspects of database security and auditing - including network security for databases, authentication and authorization issues, links and replication, database Trojans, etc. You will also learn of vulnerabilities and attacks that exist within various database environments or that have been used to attack databases (and that have since been fixed). These will often be explained to an internals level. There are many sections which outline the anatomy of an attack before delving into the details of how to combat such an attack. Equally important, you will learn about the database auditing landscape both from a business and regulatory requirements perspective as well as from a technical implementation perspective.
* Useful to the database administrator and/or security administrator - regardless of the precise database vendor (or vendors) that you are using within your organization.
* Has a large number of examples - examples that pertain to Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Sybase and even MySQL..
* Many of the techniques you will see in this book will never be described in a manual or a book that is devoted to a certain database product.
* Addressing complex issues must take into account more than just the database and focusing on capabilities that are provided only by the database vendor is not always enough. This book offers a broader view of the database environment - which is not dependent on the database platform - a view that is important to ensure good database security.
Customer Reviews:
A Well-Rounded Textbook for DBAs, Auditors and InfoSec.......2007-03-23
I'm rarely moved to write a review on a technical book, perhaps because I read so many of them. However, this text is truly outstanding, due to it's breadth of coverage, i.e., Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, UBD and Sybase AND well written descriptions of problems and solutions.
If you are seeking to secure your databases AND/OR audit them, this book contains both suggestions for scripting, triggers etc as well as where to look for vulnerabilities.
Bravo to the author, and THANKS, I'm using regularly, the best compliment of all.
Very useful and timely book.......2006-06-24
The book is very practical and timely; it contains the complex of useful rules either dispersed in many different sources or not published at all. For example my colleague who is a DB Oracle administrator in Sony Computer Entertainment distinguished the following recommendations:
· Hardening Oracle environment
· Avoiding the use of mod_plsql
· Not making a database a web server and not store HTML pages in the database
From my perspective the rules concerning Web services and cross-site scripting are the most valuable. Working on these applications I see how vulnerable is a database server due to some security holes; therefore avoiding the holes is important.
This is a very good book.......2005-11-23
This is a very good book. It is very readable and very informative. It has a lot of useful stuff. I recommend it highly.
Very good book.......2005-09-23
Really good book. Easy to read and good content. I recommend it to anyone doing db work.
Great book.......2005-06-19
The book is helpful and practical. It has the right mix of "what to do" with "how to do" and "why to do" - and it covers all the databases my company owns.

Book Description
HARNESS THE FULL POWER OF ORACLE'S POWERFUL NEW UPGRADE
Oracle is the second largest software company in the world, second only to SAP in ERP vendors. Now, after five years, Oracle has come out with the newest release of their ERP system, version 11i. The "i" represents Oracle's first presentation of its applications in Internet form, one in which the concept of specific forms loaded as clients or as dumb terminals is replaced by a commitment to industry standard Internet form that should be accessible by anyone, anywhere. This book explains in clear language for financial as well as IT professionals how to utilize Oracle applications to retrieve information.
Oracle E-Business Suite 11i: Implementing Core Financial Applications will walk the reader through the process of the Oracle 11i upgrade/conversion and provide a tutorial path for navigating through financials. Its step-by-step guidance shortens the implementation process by providing the menu paths of the actual package and in-depth descriptions of how to use the screens as well as explanations of such user-friendly aspects as customizing the program for individual use.
Whether your company has been a dedicated Oracle customer or is considering adopting the powerful capabilities of this latest version, Oracle E-Business Suite 11i: Implementing Core Financial Applications will help you quickly master the program and turn it into one of your business's most powerful back-office tools.
Customer Reviews:
A good Introductory Book.......2004-05-03
This book is a good starter book; much better than Oracle Materials. It gives good Introduction to Oracle Modules GL,AR and AP with the help of screen shots. (in fact, lots of screen shots help the understanding).
Though the contents are not for an advanced user (who would use Oracle User guide then) but still for a person who has not seen Oracle Financial Applications at all, it would be a good first step.
I did not rate 5 star because
1. it did not cover 2 financial modules : Fixed Assets and Cash Management
2. A chapter on what is happening behind the screen in applications (like general concept of Oracle Tables, TRMs etc. would have helped.
3. Should have included as an appendix: Additional Sources of Information like Metalink, OTN web etc.
Hopeless!.......2002-12-18
This book is some kind of joke. And I'm the last one to laugh, 'cause I had to spend over 60$ on this one. It is full of screenshots and hardly any verbage. If there is any, it simply gives you the basic navigation instructions for 11i screens. Well, it did one good thing though, it inspired me to write a book on the subject that I have no knowledge on. Here's what I'm going to do. Get all the user manuals, tear them apart and throw the pages in the air. Which ever land on a table, simply collect them, bind them together, and viola...you have a book with a title that reads something like "Implementing some hi-tech applications...blah blah blah..." !
Very disappointing.......2002-12-12
Though there are very few books about Oracle Applications Version 11i, this is not a good reason to buy this book. One gets the feeling that it has been assembled from a set of consultant's hand outs. It is badly written and the publisher seems to have dispensed with the services of editor and proof reader. For example, diagrams 1.3 and 1.4, meant to demonstrate the difference between single organization and multi-organization structures are in fact completely identical. This doesn't give one a great deal of confidence in the accuracy of the rest of the information in the book. The section on conversion contains the sentence "Converting legacy data can be time-consuming, expensive and complex" and then in the following paragraph "If the volume is too large, convert the legacy data via a custom software conversion program. The process can be complex and time consuming". I think we got the point the first time.
It would be great if there was a good book about Oracle Applications, but this isn't it. I feel embarrassed to have spent my employer's money on it, if I had paid for it myself I would be very angry indeed.

Book Description
Oracle database administration goes far beyond installation and tuning of the database--topics covered by the majority of books on the market. As DBAs become more involved in the business process, architecture, and planning, there may be more to do up front, but the end result is less chaotic. To better prepare those who are up to the new eBusiness challenges, the chapters in this book have been organized with information to not only provide IT professionals with information that can be applied for a more challenging and successful career, but also for those companies who are trying to attract and retain them. Implementing an Oracle internet application? this book helps.......2001-01-06
Our department just purchased mission critical internet applications that use Oracle, and no one had any idea what else we would need. This book helped us not only prepare for the implementation project, but also what we would need to look out for once we are in production.

Best help for OFA users and consultants.......2001-05-31
This book uniquely draws on the authors' wide experience as OFA professionals to harness common knowledge from many projects and offer insights gained from implementing a number of OFA projects. It effectively bridges the existing gap between functionality-focused courses, and unstructured experience to offer you a comprehensive guide to successfully implementing OFA projects. Aimed at business analysts, technical architects, project managers and OFA implementers and administrators, this book will give you invaluable support, whether you are working on a first project of are extending an existing one. The book starts with an overview, followed by in-depth discussion of project scoping for OFA, assisting the business analyst in identifying the business processes to which it should be applied. It then focuses in detail on the key features of OFA and goes on to consider related issues of Enterprise Resource Planning systems and the Data Warehouse. All principles and practices discussed are explained through references to a number of case studies and each chapter is roadmapped, assisting you in structuring your reading of the book to meet your own project requirements. OFA project implementation principles covered: sponsorship; business process modelling; change management; planning; design of the application architecture; database design; infrastructure specification documentation; roll-out and continuing change management; backup and recovery

Customer Reviews:
Useless Reference.......2002-01-22
I am not an experienced DBA, but mainly a Java developer. However I thought this book would be a useful reference when doing any Oracle related development projects. I was greatly mistaken. Myself, or my colleagues have never found anything useful in it. So if you want a good Oracle reference, I'd look elsewhere!
Shovelware At Its Worst.......2000-04-11
I have no idea what the other reviewers of this book are thinking. I feel seriously mislead, and am returning the book for credit. This is shovelware at its worst, a random unedited pile of hacks, thinks, and yawns thrown together without thought, direction or inspiration. It should never have been published. Books like this are what keeps those Giant Computer Book Sale operations in business.
Where are the Scripts on the CD?.......1999-04-08
The book is good, but I have one big question!! Where are the scripts on the CD? It says on the back cover that there are "200 scripts for use with Oracle8" on the CD. I can't find them. Are you expected to handjam them out of the book onto a disk?
An excellent gook for beginners and novice alike.......1999-01-24
An excellent book on Pl/Sql, i am sure glad i bought it. Well done to the author!
The only one I reference.......1998-09-18
I bought all of the Oracle Press junk, and they molder on the shelves. Ault is great at explaining Oracle8 DBA work, and I could not do my job without this reference. The scripts are especially useful, and the scripts alone are worth the cost of this book. I can't wait for his next one. . .

Book Description
This book examines social inclusion of supported employees in community businesses. Supported employment services opened doors for persons with disabilities to new opportunities of employment as well as social interactions with non-disabled co-workers. In this study, types and frequencies of interactions between supported employees and their non-disabled co-workers were investigated, compared to those between non-disabled co-workers in the same work culture.
