Book Description
The best-selling Fundamentals of Corporate Finance (FCF) is written with one strongly held principle– that corporate finance should be developed and taught in terms of a few integrated, powerful ideas. As such, there are three basic themes that are the central focus of the book: 1) An emphasis on intuition—underlying ideas are discussed in general terms and then by way of examples that illustrate in more concrete terms how a financial manager might proceed in a given situation. 2) A unified valuation approach—net present value (NPV) is treated as the basic concept underlying corporate finance. Every subject covered is firmly rooted in valuation, and care is taken to explain how particular decisions have valuation effects. 3) A managerial focus—the authors emphasize the role of the financial manager as decision maker, and they stress the need for managerial input and judgment. The Seventh Edition continues the tradition of excellence that has earned Fundamentals of Corporate Finance its status as market leader. Every chapter has been updated to provide the most current examples that reflect corporate finance in today’s world. The supplements package has also been updated and improved. From a new computerized test bank that is easier than ever to use, to new narrated PowerPoint for students, to new interactive learning modules, student and instructor support has never been stronger. There is also an optional, exciting new web-based program called “Homework Manager” that will help your students learn corporate finance by duplicating problems from each chapter in the textbook and by providing automatic grading and feedback to both students and instructors.

finance.......2007-07-17
i only looked at the book once because the professor didnt require us to use the book for studying purposes. im sure it's a useful book, i just didnt get to use it.
Worthless.......2006-11-01
This text book has been by far the worst text book for any class I have taken in my 4 years of college. The text is laid out in such a fashion that learning in nearly impossible. Normally I would enjoy a class like this, because I enjoy solving problems that are used in real life situations. I have not found this book to help me learn The Fundamentals of Corporate Finance at all.
For everyone who has to use this book for a class I hope that your professor is able to explain what you are supposed to be learning because this book will not help at all.
Excellent text.......2006-03-24
I really enjoyed using this text book. It is clearly written and the student CD really helped me learn the material.
Excellent readibility and examples, did well in class.......2006-02-25
I purchased this book for a class where it was required, but saved $ by purchasing through amazon. I paid about $120 and see that the price has gone up in the last 2 months. This book seems long but is filled with examples of calculations and process. I found that reading the book gave me a clearer and more thorough explanation than even my teacher could give. I have learned a lot and would highly recommend this book to anyone trying to learn finance.
Good Text For Beginners.......2005-12-16
I am a non-finance major and this book helped me get through the class very well. Not only does the author explain the material in common language, but it is an easy reader. My favorite part of the book is the CD that comes with it. It has a lot of interactive ways to learn the material, from quizzes to narrative Power Points.

Customer Reviews:
A good and readable book on Corporate Finance.......2005-09-20
"Fundamentals of Corporate Finance" is a recommended textbook of finance which is simple to read and follow. I am a Senior Engineering manager and wanted to have a good grasp of financial principles and concepts. I found the book to be very user friendly. As I go up the corporate ladder, I need a good grasp of financial concepts and their practical implementation in the real corporate world. This book provided me with most the information I needed.
The book will enable the reader to use the theory underlying corporate financial decisions to assess advanced corporate issues and decisions. The major topics covered in the book include financial statements, valuation of cash flows, capital structure and budgeting, risk and return, use of debt and equity, cash and credit management and international corporate finance, among other topics.
The book has a wide range of learning tools that should facilitate the learning process. Reference to several website reinforces the concepts being presented in the book. Whether one is a student wishing to learn the important subject of finance or a manager wishing to manage the company finances more effectively, this is a good choice of book.
The only limitation I found in the book is its main focus on US systems only with few examples on what is happening in Europe and elsewhere. To learn about the City Institutions (London) or European Stock Exchanges, for example, you have to search for your information elsewhere. Notwithstanding this, I enjoyed reading the book, particularly self-assessing my understanding by attempting the exercises in the CD-ROM which comes with the book.
katz.......2005-04-19
Wow! Great! Excellent! Amazing etc.., the list can continue. This is one book that any starter in finance area will want to learn from. Its a power-packed source of information for any student who is just starting to learn finance, however if you are already a pro in finance, then don't even considering this book because you'll finish reading the entire book in a couple of weeks.
I used this book for my exams preparation along with brealey myers text and the combination simply pushed my rank into the outstanding bracket.
This book is particularly useful for the following chapters:
5. Introductio to valuation: time value of money
6. Discounted cash flow - Interesting chapter opening
7. Interest Rates and Bond Valuation - Great Derivations
8. Stock Valuation - Once again great derivation on formula's
9-11: Capital budgeting - will be useful to only absolute starters. I liked the material in Brealey Myers text, it is more advanced
12. Some lessons from corporate market history
13. Return,Risk and Security Market Line
15. Cost of Capital
19-21: Short Term Finance - Best coverage, though not complete in all respects.
Finally one honest note, I didn't know how to produce PV/FV/Annuity tables by myself before I bought this book. Now I able to produce them all by myself.
I you want to dig deeper in finance, just like I am doing, then I suggest you buy this book and principles of corporate finance by brealey myers. This book will provide you with the base that is needed to cover the other book that I mentioned.
Good Book.......2004-05-27
I am new to Finance aspects. This book very well served the purpose. Thank you

Great book for the beginner!.......2007-07-17
The course I am taking prescribes the book by Brealey-Myers, but I find this book to be better and easier to understand the concepts for a person studying finance for the first time. There are a number of worked examples and also practice problems. I am amazed that this book wasn't our textbook in the first place. I happened to find this in the library and am glad I did!
The Good Book.......2005-08-04
If only my finance professor was as good as the book my class would be easy. I like the study guide and excel tutor that came with the purchase.

Principles of Microeconomics (with Xtra!)
ASIN: 0256257728 |
Book Description
FCF was written with one strongly held principle in mind: Corporate Finance should be developed in terms of a few integrated, powerful ideas. RWJ took a hard look at what was truly important and useful; in doing so, they eliminated topics of dubious relevance, downplayed purely theoretical issues, and minimized the use of extensive and elaborate calculations to illustrate points that are either intuitively obvious or of limited practical use. As a result of this process, three basic themes became the central focus of FCF: An Emphasis on Intuition, A Unified Valuation Approach, and A Managerial Focus.
And remember, every text purchased from Irwin/McGraw Hill comes packaged free with F.A.S.T. software, and calculator supplement cards.

A must.......2001-03-30
I have a master degree in finance and I believe this is the best work from Stepehen Ross. The book can be utilized for graduate students as well as undergraduate. If you are looking for a book which is extensively comprehensive and at the same time friendly you are looking for this book. It also contains diverse examples involving the use of financial calculators and software. It furnishes a preview on mergers and acquisitions and constantly tends to go beyond corporate to multinational
Ross does it again!.......1999-01-18
I have two corp fin books by Ross and company. This book was purchased while studing for the Level I of the CFA exam. The other book was used in graduate school. Both books are sub par in quality and were not cheap either. Save your money. Don't use this text.
A very effective tool for introducing Corporate Finance........1998-12-14
I have used this text in two corporate finance courses that I have taken at university and it was very helpful in allowing me to understand the concepts that were being presented in class.
A standout introduction to corporate finance.......1998-11-08
This text was a requirement for my Chartered Financial Analyst exam, and it has been one of the few texts that I have decided to keep on my bookshelf. It does a wonderful job of making basic financial subjects like time value of money and capital structure lucid and easy to understand. I only wish more finance professors would use it in their classrooms rather than the dry, pedantic texts they've been using! Just having an academic text that speaks plain English is a boon for students, and "Fundamentals of Corporate Finance" excels in that respect.
Great Book!!!!!.......1998-10-05
I am a ITESM Edo. de Mexico MBA student. This book is almost mandatory to understand the fundamentals of Corporate Finance. I guess that if they had it in the American Book Store, they would sell several of them. The lead time is too long. There is a translation to Spanish, but I rather have the English version. If you can wait that long buy the book, it is worth it.

Excellent textbook.......2003-07-08
This text is for intermediate level business and finance students, and is very informative and well written. I read it two times with great pleasure. It is not boring, even for those outside the field (I must admit I did not work the problems though!). I highly recommend it.

Book Description
"Until recently, business historians have not yielded to beauty - at least as a subject of scholarly inquiry. But beauty is big business." -- Kathy Peiss, from the Introduction
Beauty seems simple; we know it when we see it. But of course our ideas about what is attractive are influenced by a broad range of social and economic factors, and in Beauty and Business leading historians set out to provide this important cultural context. How have retailers shaped popular consciousness about beauty? And how, in turn, have cultural assumptions influenced the commodification of beauty? The contributors here look to particular examples in order to address these questions, turning their attention to topics ranging from the social role of the African American hair salon, the sexual dynamics of bathing suits and shirtcollars, and the deeper meanings of corsets, to what the Avon lady tells us about changing American values. As a whole, these essays force us to reckon with the ways that beauty has been made, bought, and sold in modern America.
Announcing a New Series
Beauty and Business launches a new series, Hagley Perspectives on Business and Culture, edited by Philip Scranton and Roger Horowitz in conjunction with the prestigious Hagley Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society in Wilmington, Delaware - one of the nation's leading research centers. Forthcoming volumes in the series include Boys and Their Toys: Masculinity, Class, and Technology in America and Food and Culture.

Book Description
Data from the Current Population Survey were used in a unique analysis of migration and economic adaptation in a nationally representative sample of Asian and Hispanic immigrant women. The study describes migration patterns and compares the labor market adaptation experiences of women who migrated with their families and women who migrated independently. The book also examines the systematic differences in migration patterns by country of origin and how these differences relate to labor market performance
The findings highlight the considerable impact of immigration policy on the economic adaptation of immigration women. Wives who migrated before their husbands were more likely to be in the labor force, especially when compared to wives migrating after their husbands. In contrast, wives who migrated with their husbands were not likely to participate in the labor force. Interestingly, Asian immigrant wives, were more likely to migrate while married than were Hispanic immigrant wives. Asian wives who migrated after their husbands, earned substantially lower wages than their respective ethnic counterparts
