The book seems to be easy to read, but still quite comprehensive. The new tendencies of ART solutions are good captured and described in a well understandible manner. Good book for everyone who wants to know main features of ART market without getting himself lost in small mathematical details

In this excellent introduction to risk management, author Erik Banks offers a lucid, clearly written and well-organized overview. He tells readers what risk management is, why it is necessary, how it works and how companies can carry it out most prudently and cost-effectively. He manages to convey the essential information about insurance and reinsurance, the use of capital markets and derivatives, and the application of enterprise risk management concisely. This is a remarkable achievement. Most books on insurance bog down in jargon and details, while most books on derivatives are unnecessarily complicated and dense. This one - offered by the Wiley Finance Series - is neither. Although not exactly beach reading, it's about as accessible as any book on this subject could possibly be. We recommend it highly to executives and investors.

We seem to be living at a time when insurance is strained to the breaking point. From hurricanes and earthquakes to terrorist attacks and threats of nuclear devastation, enormous risks to life and property -- and accompanying liabilities -- proliferate on an unprecedented scale. Insurer insolvency is not yet common, but it is not unusual either. And at the root of such failures often lies the compound failure of uncollectable reinsurance. This important book proposes that a significant part of the emerging insurance crisis results from inadequate regulation of reinsurance. In a detailed and cogent analysis of what an effective regulatory regime for reinsurance must entail, the author examines such factors as the following: + direct supervision of reinsurers versus supervision of reinsurance policies; + models from developed countries (US, UK, EU) and international organisations (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, International Association of Insurance Supervisors); + the importance of taking legal and economic differences into account while applying models; + the problem of local protectionism, especially in developing countries; + the dismantling of trade barriers in the reinsurance industry; + global harmonization of reinsurance regulation; + the role of reinsurance intermediaries; + finite risk reinsurance; and + insurance-linked securities. The author's concluding chapter presents an essential legal infrastructure that allows for efficiency, security, and individual market characteristics. Professor Wang then applies this framework to the Taiwanese insurance market, demonstrating convincingly how his proposed regime can solve specific problems while respecting Taiwan's distinct market environment. Some economists assert that economic theory has so far performed poorly in explaining the dramatic increase in exchange rate volatility in the recent floating rate period. This paperback edition consists of the first three parts of Allen and Kenen’s major book, Asset Markets, Exchange Rates, and Economic Integration. These three parts stand alone, as the authors intended and as reviewers have commented. In parts four and five of that volume they extend their model to two countries trading with the outside world and analyze questions of economic integration. The authors synthesize and extend recent developments in international monetary theory using a general model of an open economy that trades goods and assets with the outside world. The model embodies the asset market or portfolio approach to analyzing balance-of-payments adjustment. Exchange rates are determined in the short run by conditions in the asset markets and in the long run by conditions in the goods markets. The goods markets include an export good, and import good, and a nontradeable good. Allen and Kenen show that different assumptions about the substitutability between goods or between assets can generate several popular models as special cases of their own.
