A carpenter, a juggler, a football player, a dog-walker, an artist, a barber, a conductor, and gardener are the people your child will meet when reading this book. The scenario is as follows:

Who uses this? the author asks. The print is in large letters. On the following page is an item such as a hammer. On the following set of pages there is a picture of a carpenter building a home, followed by a picture of a little girl building something with wood, nails and a hammer.

I said in my title that this was a good book but maybe not an excellent purchase. The reason I think this is because after a few reads I think it might become obsolete. My 4 yo knew all of the items and people except for the baton the conductor uses and soon lost interest. My almost 3 y.o. still likes it however after many reads because of the pictures and because he is still learning about jugglers and such. So I guess, it depends on your child and what they like and whether they have any siblings or friends who could use the book later. Hope this helps.

Try reading this book to kids of any age--even preschool--while a child plays A-E-E-E-G on the xylophone every time you read "Who uses this?" The kids like it!

extremely bad sentence construction, I can not believe that the publisher let go without proof reading.

But there is no other book available to fill the need.

So would be a good book for system design.

Best system level book I have ever read........2007-03-05

I have to say this is one of the books I have benefied the most from. It shows the auther truely understands the topic both from theoritical and practical aspects.

A good reference on RF System analysis.......2006-04-10

I came across this book after I went through a few books on RF system design. I guess I can confidently say that the book covers the most important aspects of the RF system design such as noise figure, inter-modulation and adjacent channel power ratio calculations. The cascaded system analysis (Noise figure and OIP calculations)are explained in a very straightforward and easy to follow manner. Of particular interest is the section on the architectural trade-off analysis. This section provides a very clear overview of fundamental issues that impact RF system design in most practical environments.

This book has room for improvement though. In particular, the ADC noise figure analysis for the band-pass sampling (appendix 3D) does not cover the ADC non-linearity, the jitter noise and the aliasing due to sub-sampling. Moreover, most of the examples are around the mobile hand-set systems. In my opinion expanding the analysis to the base-station could benefit some readers in this area.
Reader can find himself annoyed by many typo errors in the bibliography section. I am expecting these minor issues to be resolved over the subsequent editions. Overall, I recommend this book for RF system designers who need an up-to-date encyclopedia in this area.

If your just starting in the field of
RF design it is better to start off with
a more basic RF text book. I found this more
indepth book an excellent addition to my library
with lots of real world circuit examples
and up to date references. It
contains a glossary explaining every
symbol. Basically everybody in my design
group wants to borrow it from me.

Don't waste your money or time........2002-08-11

This book has all of the usual defects of books from Kluwer Academic Publishers. Acronyms in the text and terms in equations are not defined. Diagrams have errors. It seems to be a cut and paste job with very little systematic development of the subject. Graphs of CAD program outputs are presented with no or very little comment or discussion. There is one case of a technical error. A mathematical program output which claims to show the effects of amplifier noise figure really illustrates the beneficial effects of dithering data to overcome the effects of finite word length in FFT calculations.

This book will focus on wireless transceiver testing and design for testability. First, traditional specification-measurement techniques for transceiver components will be discussed. These will include measurement of parameters such as third order input intercept, gain, 1dB compression point, etc. Such test techniques are well-known however their inclusion in the book is essential for completeness. The following chapters will focus on the changing cost dynamics, need for new, system-level techniques. Then, a number of system and circuit level approaches will be presented. System level approaches typically focus on specific architectures. As a result , there will be a minimal overview of transceiver architectures.

Finally, some challenges and open questions will be presented. I do not believe there is a comprehensive book on testing of RF transceivers. Most of parametric measurement techniques are presented either in papers on manuals of testers with RF modules. Typically test engineers accumulate this knowledge over their experiences on the test floor. The presentation on the two sides of the domain (traditional vs. research) will be valuable both for the industry (new RF test engineers can find it quite helpful) and researchers who want to concentrate on this field

This small book is a treasure of insults, ranging frm unkind words about Dorothy Parker to downright meanness regarding Warren G. Harding, with splendid stops along the way.
Here are insults the reader will want to read or send to friends, and perhaps to enemies. This is a book to browse through for quite some time after reading it, probably in a single sitting, because it's a fascinating page-turner, not for plot, but for wicked words.
