    Book Description

The author critically reviews the methodological principles of Marx's value analysis and the best known interpretation of his value theory. He develops an interpretation of Marx focussing primarily upon the processes and relations that regulate social and economic reproduction under capitalism. When analysed from this angle, value theory is a theory of class and exploitation. The concept of value is useful, among other reasons, because it explains capitalist exploitation in spite of the predominance of voluntary market exchanges.
The most important controversies in Marxian political economy are reviewed exhaustively, and new light is thrown on the meaning and significance of Marx's analysis and its relevance for contemporary capitalism.

      5 out of 5 stars Don't Judge the Author's By the Book.......2007-10-02

I must admit, I never read this book, as the book was published after my sons had already finished high school. Although I can't comment on the book, I take exception with those reviewers on this blog that belittled the authors in a personal way. The authors were incredible S.A.T. tutors. They lived (may still do) in the next town and had the best and well-deserved reputations in the business. Their expertise in "test taking" was remarkable. And they were nice people too! Kids liked them and parents liked them. I recommended them to all of my friends and those that used them were very very happy. My sons used them for the verbal section and the writing sample. One got 800 on the writing sample and 720 on the verbal. The other got a 750 on the writing and a 720 on the verbal. Thank you Andrea and Jay Blumenthal.
By the way, it's been 10 years since we used them and I want to recommend them to a younger friend. I just googled their names to see if they were still in business and came across their book on Amazon.

like most married couples this book is a trifling idiots' paradise: peruse this tiny nugget of rotten wisdom and come back duller and dumber than before. Theu should pay you to take it off their hands; the unsold copies must be filling up the garage.

1 out of 5 stars Been There, Read It.......2003-04-24

A bunch of nonsense from "experts" who claim to be in the "business" for years, which probably means they went to ETS.ORG and read about SAT's and SAT II's and then went to a few colleges' websites to learn about admission dates and guidelines. The book is a real snoozer, empty of vividness, insight, or help. If my parent read this and then tried to relay this drivel to me I would sue for Child Abuse. Pay attention in class, go to a few websites, consult the trained help who have expertise at your school, study vocab, and leave this where it belongs: in the No Sale area in your Shopping Cart.

1 out of 5 stars Answer: B. Waste oif Time.......2003-03-25

Too general to instruct, too bland to entertain, this soporific release from a husband and wife--or corpse and corpse--induces ennui, not edificxation. All books on the subject are more helpful: those books will have more sample test-taking strategies, will illustate more re colleges' relationship to score, and will break down exactly what a 1200 on a SAT means: the number wrong, the weaknesses inherent in such a score, the levels of Un iversities that will either laugh or accept. There should be something on the new SAT's (in 18 months) and the supposed racism that is built inside these questions. A history of ETSA, an overview of ACT's, and any reference to the MANY contreoversies that thse tests evoke would also flesh this slim and stupid volume out. This book would fit comfortably at the bottom of a parrot's cage, but be warned: animal may lkaern to speak like a smug lawyer who never had one original thought.

1 out of 5 stars Not much help.......2003-02-25

I bought this book as a jumior in High School and now that I am a college freshman I think that I can honestly say that the book did not help at all. Much better info was to be had at College Board's website and in the Barron's series. The book is boring and unhelpful concerning types of tests, dates of tests, and strategies taking the tests. It seems like a rush job, and a waste of money. Better you save 20 bucks and buy 10 real SAT's and simply take the practice exams. In this book the advice is so general and so banal that you will sleep your way--something thre authors seemed to do--after the first five pages. Go somewhere else and and pwork your way through the problems. The self help section at stores is so filled with this type of garbage that I expoect to see a book soon called Self Help Writers in Need of Self Help.

Following Traveling with Power and A Toltec Path, Tracking Freedom continues and expands the Toltec legacy first imparted to readers by Carlos Castaneda and the Toltec sorcerer Don Juan Matus. Tracking Freedom is simultaneously a methodology for examining different spiritual disciplines that may come your way and a manual for adopting the Toltec discipline; the main thrust of which is to cease viewing the world as a material place and instead to perceive it as a realm of energy. Ken Eagle Feather makes this imposing task manageable, breaking it into smaller components. His nomenclature for these components draws on resources as diverse as Toltec shamanism, Kundalini yoga, and J.R.R. Tolkien. The whole idea can be a bit confusing at first glance, but perseverance will reap great rewards. While Tracking Freedom is more of a companion to, than a substitute for, Castaneda's writings, it is an excellent starting point for an excursion into Toltec philosophy. --Brian Patterson

        4 out of 5 stars Another Perception.......2005-10-25

If you have read "A Toltec Path" by Ken Eagle Feather you will know what to expect from "Tracking Freedom" It's basically the same information with emphasis on tracking/stalking. Despite this there are a few concepts elucidated upon and some new insights that make it worth picking up. Those of you who are new to the information, I recommend reading the author's books as well as other toltec authors to understand the overall vision of the message. If you decide to embrace this path you may come across the "Don Juan" controversy. The question of Don Juan being an actual person or a metaphor for the collective shamanic wisdom of the people of New Mexico, is completely irrelevant. The knowledge is real. The proof of the toltec system lies in its implementation. The arts of tracking/stalking and dreaming are invaluable to any spiritual pursuit. But remember, don't limit yourself, I believe that all spirituality stems from one source that has been fragmented throughout human history. The study of one system lights the path of another, for example the books of Eckhart Tolle, which teaches the spiritual practice of present centeredness are a great aid to tracking/stalking practices.

5 out of 5 stars Freedom is the word.......2000-05-01

Of the three books by Ken Eagle Feather, this one is my favorite. Each of his previous books led me up to this one - which launched me into a new way of perception. Tracking freedom is precisely what the book is about, with no wasted words. It is packed full of exercises and information that helps one along the path to freedom.

4 out of 5 stars This book offer a completely different perspective.......1999-08-17

Most of us having been reading the "metaphysical" books for the last twenty years and it is all basicly the same. I found "Tracking Freedom" refreshingly different. It took reading the book several times and suspending my own usual way of thinking to start to digest what Ken Eagle Feather is trying to get across. I love the book. I will undoubtly read it again and again. Ken Eagle Feather's style of writing makes reading the book a pleasure; like two friends having a conversation. A book to be savored.

Ken Eagle Feather shows a courage that is quite rare. His personal and accurate descriptions of his moments of extraordinary awareness, if compared to many other traditions, will show precise moments of identity in the content and aftereffects of these occurrences. This is hard to accomplish without being very honest and careful about sequential details in retelling these instances. His out of body descriptions, his knowledge of white light, his struggle to grow beyond illness and physical problems.and his wide range of prior study of paranormal literature[including Edgar Casey] give him a framework from which to conceptualize occurrences not fitting either a striclty religious, nor a shrunken physical model of awareness and the field of activity in which it exists and is empowered. His primary focus on awareness aand perception are the sine qua non of traveling these avenues. He is able to expand his understanding with each occurrence intuitively and conceptually.

I hardly need to warn you though, as it is completely obvious throughout that this guy is waxing a little poetic about his relationship with "Don Juan." Still, it has a couple of interesting ideas and if you're totally desperate for Castaneda inspired reading you could give it a glance.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Regency holiday stories.......2007-05-18

I originally read this collection of holiday Regency love stories years ago when I borrowed it from my local library branch. I enjoyed it so much that it was with great reluctance (and moral integrity) I returned it to the library. I now have my own copy thanks to Amazon's used bookseller program. An enjoyable read ANY time of the year.

        This collection contains 5 stories:
        1. The Girl with the Airs, by Elizabeth Mansfield
A beautiful proud bluestocking, Caroline Wolcott, reluctantly falls in love with the Corinthian set scot Lord Dunvegan, George David McAusland (Geordie) at his aunt's Christmas party at Teale Court.

Geordie, sent to Oxford and London by his father 6 years ago to get some town bronze, is longing to return to his beloved home Kincardine for Christmas after being banished for 6 long years. However his father has written to his Aunt Teale asking her to find an English bride for Geordie just as she did for him many years ago before allowing Geordie to return to Scotland. His aunt has chosen Caroline Wolcott for Geordie, not knowing that they have met once before in London and dislike each other. Geordie's previous picque soon turns to love but Caroline continues to remain disdainful.

Rating 5 Stars: My husband is part scots so I have, since marrying, become enchanted with things scottish. It is the character of the lovable scotsman Geordie (his delightful on again, off again, scots brogue) that make this story charming.

2.Proof of the Pudding, by Monette Cummings
Deryk Richardson has loved the beautiful Christine Douglas (of a neighboring estate) since they were children. Her ambitious aunt, Lady Cora Douglas, convinces her selfish husband and Christine's uncle and guardian, Sir Matthew Douglas, to send Christine for a season in London before agreeing to the betrothal of Deryk and Christine.

In London, the captain sharp, Virgil Clive, a nephew to an earl (but not in line for the earldom), becomes fixated with the heiress Christine. Despite her obvious disdain (Virgil is too puffed up in himself to realize that he really is a nasty & totally unlikeable person), Virgil devises a scheme to use her uncle Matthew's selfishness and an ancient silver drachma coin (won by cheating in a card game) to gain agreement of a betrothal of himself to Christine instead of her beau Deryk.

Rating 2 Stars: This story is more about the vile Virgil's efforts to wed Christine against her will than about Christine and Deryk. The villian in this story occupies more pages than anyone else. I found the prolonged wallowing in the antics of Virgil distasteful (both literally and figuratively). Lady Cora and Sir Matthew are both mildly unpleasant too.

        3. A Christmas Spirit, by Sarah Eagle
The scholarly Ian Fitzwalter has unexpectedly ascended to the title of Earl of Denham. His new duties to family and estate sit uneasily on Ian's shoulders. The ghost of Denham Abbey, Sir Lancelot FitzWalter, has been charged through eternity of finding just the right bride for each unmarried Earl of Denham.

The ghostly Sir Lancelot misdirects Miss Serena Dodd's coach, lost in a snowstorm on its way to Oxford for Christmas with her family, to Denham instead. Serena had a school girl's crush on Ian when he was a young lad in Oxford studying with her father, a tutor. It's been years since she has seen him and she hopes he does not remember her and her foolish crush.

Sir Lancelot is enchanted with Serena. He now must work on getting Ian to become enchanted with her too.

Rating 4 Stars: Serena, Ian, and some of the other characters (including the ghostly Sir Lancelot) make for an enchanting story.

        4. Christmas at Wickly, by Judith Nelson
Edward, the Earl of Wickham, hopes to spend some time by himself at Wickly. He has unexpectedly become Earl after the death of older brother. He has spent years in India earning his own fortune, since as the younger son, he had nothing due to the entail.

His Grandmother, the Dowager Countess Wickham, without prior approval of Edward (who did not stop to visit her when he returned from India), has invited members of the ton, especially beautiful young debutantes, to a Christmas party at Wickly. She has brought along with her the resourceful Miss Cassandra Worthington, grandaughter of her best friend when a debutante herself, to help her ready Wickly for the Christmas party.

Cassandra is a down to earth, calm, spinster of 28, with a sense of humor and an eye for the ridiculous. She has been caring for her sister-in-law Alicia and niece Leticia when they were left in dire straits 10 years ago when Cassandra's brother Richard died unexpectedly.

As Cassandra works on readying Wickly for the Christmas party, Edward, the Earl, finds himself drawn to her despite her assurance that she is not one of the ladies his grandmother had in mind for him as a wife. Her skill at making Wickly beautiful for Christmas, her horsemanship, her unconventional reading habits, her calm good sense, her wit, her humorous outlook on life, her lovely natural singing voice, as well as her excellent chess playing skills, all endear her to Edward. He falls in love with her. However Cassandra turns skittish and begins to avoid him for she has responsibilties -- she must care for her sister-in-law and niece who are sweet but bumble headed.

Edward's Grandmother is determined that somehow her Grandson Edward will marry Cassandra.

Rating 5+ Stars: I love this story. For this story alone the book is worth buying. I hope you will love it as much as I do. Edward, Cassandra, and his Grandmother are all characters I enjoyed reading about. Mostly humorous and witty, this story made me a little misty eyed toward the end.

5.The Kissing Bough, by Martha Powers
Gillian Foster is the hoyendish daughter of Professor Ethan Foster. He owns a small estate near the Earl of Elmore's estate, Maynard. As a young girl, Gillian first meets Chadwicke (Chad) Kendale, the heir, in a barn when she saves him from a beating by the town bully, Lester, by pelting Lester with apples she has been collecting for a kissing bough for her father. Besides the prologue, each of the 5 chapters is named for the kisses exchanged by Gillian and Chad over the years: The First Kiss, the Second Kiss, etc.

Is there any hope that the daughter of a professor with a very small estate would be thought worthy by Chad (whom she loves) to be his countess? Each chapter is a peek at them as they grow up to be man and woman.

Rating 5+ Stars: Another wonderful Christmas story. Excellent. This one had me weeping sentimentally near the end. Another story I hope you will enjoy as much as I did and another one that is worth the price of the whole book. All characters (except for the very brief parts of Lester, the bully, and Edwina, Edward's one time fiancee) are likeable, even lovable.

Overall, probably the best collection of Regency Christmas stories ever published.

5 out of 5 stars two shining stars.......2004-11-29

I picked this book up on a whim...I like regencies and especially Christmas anthologies, but I had heard of only two and read only one of the authors. Three of the tales are light and amusing...two are shining stars. Judith Nelson's "Christmas at Wickly" and Martha Power's "The Kissing Bough" are heart-warming tales of the beauty of love and the power of Christmas. These two stories alone make this a 5-star book and are worth the price and effort to find a copy.

          Book Description

Formed at the beginning of World War II, the 101st Airborne Division has fought in almost every major conflict since then, including Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. Going from a parachute and glider infantry in its early days to an air assault division in our own--the only one in the world--the “Screaming Eagles” are trained to destroy enemy forces while seizing land and resources. They are a rapid deployment group prepared to go anywhere in the world within thirty-six hours. And, for good reason, they are probably the best-known army division in the world.

In this book, top military photographer and former U.S. Army Ranger Russ Bryant takes you inside the 101st Airborne. In training and in action, on land and in the air: Here are the Screaming Eagles as you’ve never seen them, in a close-up, multi-faceted portrait of courage and skill as a fact of everyday life. The book brilliantly illustrates why the 101st Airborne is the vanguard in its field--and in the world.

In the landmark book, The Wisdom of Wolves: Natures Way to Organizational Success, Dr. Twyman Towery developed a unique concept that is expanded upon in this chronicle of the majestic eagle, an animal that has been greatly revered throughout history. The eagle has been celebrated by countless civilizations from ancient times to the present as a symbol of power, strength, and courage.

Well, let's cut to the point here. It's a good book. It's got a great idea to it. It uses Eagles as a metaphor, to relate the way they live their lives to our own individual accomplishment in our lives. This is the second book I have read of Towery's. The first one I read was the Wisdom of Wolves. Towery divides the books into chapters on several different topics - symbolism, vision, celebration, mentoring, teamwork - and so on and so forth. They are all very general topics.

I didn't like how Towery was quoting 7 year olds and such alike saying stuff like - 'When I think of the eagle, I always think of my dad because he's going places.' I really didn't see a point to this.

But I will use it for various papers I write at uni, and I thank you Mr.Towery for writing this book - very interesting indeed. Your writing is on a personal basis - and I suppose thats what made me buy the second book. I appreciate your personal signature at the beginning of the books too! Keep up the good work!

An interesting concept. Give it a try.
