This thing is simply great - Looks good, nice paper, great content, not overly academic/pretentious in its stile of writing. Also serves as a good read when not looking for specific topics. Im sorry I did not discover that treasure sooner.

Whoa!.......2000-08-12

This Oxford publication is the Motherload for sites in the Near East. Just about every site, with the exception of those found after 1996-97, in the near east is listed in this beautifully bound set (vol 1-5). It is an excellent source for any Archaeology student researching sites in the Near East. One draw back of the volumes is the lack of diagrams and photo's. However, the volumes are very well written with the student or researcher in prespective. All sites are in alphabetical order, making location a task easy to accomplish. This set is a must for serious students in the field.

A missed opportunity.......2000-03-31

This voluminous, five volume set, is meant to serve as a comprehensive dictionary of the ancient near east. Though the topics covered are impressive, the main drawback of this volume is the surprisingly small amount of illustrations and pictures that are incorporated in the text. In a work that claims to summarize the archaeology of the ancient near east, the few pictures, plans, etc., seriously lowers the intrinsic value of the encylopedia. This said, nevertheless, these volumes can be used for the convenient summaries of the archaeology of various sites and the basic relevant bibliography.

Great Book for Beginners or Experts.......2000-12-13

I have struggled writing Premises Cabling books when I worked for a Mid-state PA Co. Mr. Sterling brings an understanding to the subject matter that enbabled me to correctly help the audience that I was writing for and trying to reach with training information about cabling options. His expert guidance would enable both the novice and the expert to gain a deeper understanding and help them with their job and career. This is not an easy subject, yet Mr. Sterling makes it a pleasure to read and refer back to time and time again. Thanks for taking the time to put together such an informative and interesting book.

The worst book of its kind for this topic.......2000-04-27

I once owned this book and do not recommend it to anyone for any reason. I have several books of this topic and this book is by far the worst of the bunch. No details on planning, design, installation or support of network cabling. Just some worthless pictures on how the network cabling looks and works. If there is any redeeming factor to this book it almost shows how to crimp a RJ45 plug onto the end of a wire, but almost doesn't count and its not redeeming for this book.

I sold this book at an internet auction and I was glad to get rid of it for postage. Do not buy.

Excellent choice for LAN network support folks.......1998-06-12

I'm a non-engineer who began supporting LAN network infrastructure a couple of years ago. I've read a couple of other books on premises cabling and they all pretty much tell you the same kind of things, basic rules for cabling, tips, do's and don'ts. However, this book delves a little deeper into the electrical properties and gives you some needed insight into why certain practices are better than others. This is critical as the newer technologies are deployed and the tolerances of Cat5 cable begin to be stressed. It helps you cut through the gobbledy-gook of the marketeers, also.

Book covers all the basics, why structured cable, properties of Cat5 and fiber, connectors, OSI model, cross-connects, installation techniques, certification, etc.

Only criticism I have is that it was published in 1996 and that a new edition would be nice, especially after the Cat6 standards are finalized.

Virtually all discussions of the problematic character of youth and society in twentieth century Germany begin with the middle class Wandervogel and end with the Hitler Youth. In this revisionist study Derek S. Linton argues that youth emerged as an important social problem around 1900 without any reference to the Wandervogel. Instead, fears of socialism, urban disorder, mass culture, and youthful independence prompted Liberal social reformers to constitute young workers as a social problem. Linton traces the "natural history" of this social problem from recognition to institutional reform. He especially explores such institutions as mandatory evening vocational schools and adult sponsored youth clubs designed to integrate young workers in Wilhelmine society. Based on his analysis of youth reform, Linton ends by discussing some of the recent debates over the reformability of Imperial Germany and relations between the Empire and the Nazi regime.
