      Book Description

In response to a clear need by low-income people to gain access to the full range of financial services including savings, a growing number of microfinance NGOs are seeking guidelines to transform from credit-focused microfinance organizations to regulated deposit-taking financial intermediaries. In response to this trend, this book presents a practical "how-to" manual for MFIs to develop the capacity to become licensed and regulated to mobilize deposits from the public.

Transforming Microfinance Institutions provides guidelines for regulators to license and regulate microfinance providers, and for transforming MFIs to meet the demands of two major new stakeholders -regulators and shareholders. As such, it focuses on developing the capacity of NGO MFIs to mobilize and intermediate voluntary savings. Drawing from worldwide experience, it outlines how to manage the transformation process and address major strategic and operational issues inherent in transformation including competitive positioning, business planning, accessing capital and shareholders, and how to "transform" the MFI's human resources, financial management, MIS, internal controls, and branch operations. Case studies then provide examples of developing a new regulatory tier for microfinance, and how a Ugandan NGO transformed to become a licensed financial intermediary.

This book will be invaluable to regulators and microfinance NGOs contemplating institutional transformation and will be of tremendous use to donors and technical support agencies supporting MFIs in their transformation.

      Book Description

The cash flow business is creating a whole new generation of success stories, and you can share in the wealth, whether you are looking for:

    • A total career change
    • A part-time source of income
    • A work-from-home opportunity
    • Supplemental retirement income
    • Full-blown self-employment

People all across America are making thousands to tens of thousands of dollars per month in this red-hot new business that has already been discovered and reported on in The Wall Street Journal and elsewhere. It does not require any special financial education or occupational background, nor is it restricted by age, nationality, or gender. It is open to anyone willing to learn the simple three-step cash flow process that author Laurence J. Pino explains so clearly in Cash In on Cash Flow.

Consider this: one out of every fifteen pieces of real estate sold in the United States involves an arrangement where a private individual takes back a note and receives payments long into the future. The sellers of eight out of ten businesses in the United States take payments over time. And consider lottery winners. After the initial excitement wears off and the reality sets in that lottery winnings will be spread over twenty years minus up-front taxes, the lottery winners realize that they've gotten too good at spending money before it comes in. What all of these people have in common is the fact that they are owed future payments but would prefer to receive an immediate lump sum of cash (even though it is smaller) rather than wait so long for these payments. The cash flow business deals with the buying and brokering of future payments just like these, from private individuals who want to trade mortgage notes, invoices, lottery winnings, car accident settlements, insurance policies, and other assets for a lump sum of cash. That's where a cash flow specialist comes in, and that is what this book is all about -- how you can become a specialist and earn handsome income on a part-time or full-time basis.

A pioneer in the cash flow business, Pino has perfected the system and written the first book on the subject. As a cash flow specialist, you will not be trying to sell products to friends, relatives, or neighbors. You don't have to "sign people up" to make money. And you don't have to make hefty capital investments. You can work when you want to, right from your home, according to your own lifestyle and income objectives.

And the best news? You don't even need your own capital to get started. If you've got capital, you can invest in cash flows and earn incredible yields on your money. If you don't, you can still earn substantial fees brokering cash flows to people who do. Cash In on Cash Flow explains it all, simply and clearly.

4 out of 5 stars Bad Reviews On This Book Aren't Warranted.......2006-10-16

This book is actually written well. If you are thinking about getting into this business (note business) than I would highly suggest reading this book FIRST before you do! It does a good job explaining how the note business works and what different notes you can buy. There are about 60+ different kind of cash flow notes out there you can buy or broker to other buyers. The book talks about several kinds of different notes and gives you the details to help you familarize yourself with how the business works. I thought it was very informative and glad I bought it to learn about the note business.

Now, on the other hand...DO NOT BUY INTO THEIR REDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE SEMINAR COURSE THEY WILL TRY TO PRESSURE YOU INTO IF YOU GO TO ONE OF THEIR "FREE" TV INFOMERCIAL SEMINARS THEY HOLD AROUND THE COUNTRY!!! You can get furthur education on the business WAY cheaper from "reputable & honest" teachers in this business and save yourself a lot of money! As in the note business...do your due-diligence with online searches and reading reviews before you jump in.

4 out of 5 stars Great for beginners...........2005-09-25

I've been a Note Broker/Cash Flow Specialist for 4 years now and I refer all of my trainees to this book. It's very detailed in defining the main debt instruments that dominate the industry and pointing you in the right direction of who to network with in order to generate business.

The one thing I disagree with is that the author claims you'll succeed part-time. Like any other profession, this one requires a lot of time and effort. And anyone who has experience brokering anything knows that good brokers make dozens, if not hundreds, of calls per day. If you like speaking over the phone and have the time, then this business will easily add a good $20-$40K to your annual income, possibly more.

      4 out of 5 stars Good book but not a 5 star.......2005-06-18

The only thing that bothered me about this book was that most of the information is repetitive. Again and again the same things are repeated. I would say, about 40% of the book could have been saved by eliminating the repetition. Book is well illustrated with examples and references. Have some sound ideas and advice. It did not have the thrill of a best seller. Has not the grip required to earn a 5 star rating.

Adams gives the reader an in-depth look at BCCI's rise and fall. He looks at the bank's often shady business practices, and examines why such a worldwide institution failed so spectacularly.

This book does a great job of presenting BCCI's rise and fall. There has obviously been painstaking research done to present an accurate portrait of the situation at BCCI. The institutional corruption and disregard for ethics or banking regulations is shown time and time again. There are stories here about bank managers instructing depositors in how to defraud the system, the acceptance of deposits from dictators and drug lords, and the attempt to circumvent US banking regulators to open branches on the East Coast. It is a compelling story from not only a business standpoint, but also from a historical one.

I did not read the bit about the FBI's sting of BCCI. The part of the book I did read was well researched, albeit dry in some parts.

5 out of 5 stars A great account of what happened........2002-08-29

This is a good read, very educational on Middle-Eastern and Southeast Asian business practises. Instead of all that garbage they teach at business schools regarding international commerce, they should provide books such as this one as required reading.

This is how things really happen. It details innumerable 'behind-the-scenes' business deals. Provides a great insight to the anatomy of shady international banking deals, not to mention arms deals, drug trafficking and money laundering.

I know some of the people mentioned in this book and it is spot-on with its descriptions of them. This book may be a little out of date but its a worthy read and will be for years to come.

      3 out of 5 stars BCCI's a thrilling book.......2000-03-28

When I first purchased "A Full Service Bank: How BCCI..." I was thinking that it is a long boring book, but when I started to read it I was amazed on what BCCI actually pulled off and how they did such things. The governments and banking systems in other countries also intrigued me. "A Full Service Bank" is an exciting book that keeps the reader engaged for a long amount of time and keeps them interested. When you are done reading this novel you should feel a sense of knowledge. I suggest "A full Service Bank" to anyone interested in the banking industry or interested in a great book about scandles andn banks.

From the supplier: Varied interpretations of SFAS 34, an accounting law that covers full disclosure of interest capitalization decisions, abound. There are at least four alternate interpretations: use of a specific financing rate, matching average accumulated construction expenses with contemporaneous financing, use of an interest rate alongside construction expenses and inclusion of accrued interest in the measure of particular new borrowings.

California is a difficult place to start a business and many that do fail. This book is easy to read, well laid out and takes you from the planning stage through execution of your business plan into handling the early crises of owning and operating your own business. It has helpful forms and contacts in the state of California that you would want and need. I strongly recommend getting it and reading it from cover to cover prior to beginning a business.

I just read the first 2 chapters of the book and flipped through the rest. This book is fantastic. Ive read other small business help books (like one by Burstiner) and they were terrible. They put you to sleep and are not easy to read. Jenkins' book gets right to the point and sums up everything you need to get started. I didnt have to read through pages of pointless details that dont nessisarily apply to every business. Those details can always be sought elsewhere if needed and not drag a getting started book under.

                    Thanks Mr Jenkins. -Kelly K

If you want to know the ground rules of doing business in California, this book covers it all, in easily understood English, not legalese. FORBES Magazine (11/96) recently did an article on business self-help books, concluding most were not worth the paper they were printed on. However, they cited 4 such books they did consider very worthwhile, and this 50-state series was one of the four FORBES liked. The pre-addressed postcards to various government and private agencies, to obtain needed forms, booklets, and posters, are extremely useful, to satisfy both federal and California requirements.

                    Book Description

The lessons of these practical papers, and the sound business principles which they serve to emphasize, appeal equally to any businessperson.

Andrew Carnegie's achievements are known the world over and what he has to say bears the hallmark of sterling quality. When any man, beginning life a poor boy, succeeds, in the course of manufacturing and merchandising, in building up a fortune of over two hundred and fifty million dollars, it certainly is of interest to other toilers after wealth, to learn something of the principles; something of the secrets of his methods. And it is exceedingly fortunate that this man of great experience, of deep, practical knowledge, has the happy faculty of being able to impart his wisdom to others; and having the faculty, is also possessed of a generous-minded willingness to point the way of success to all who would tread the golden road. How to Win Fortune is a notable and valuable contribution to the literature of business and is at the same time a wonderful mine of facts and principles governing what is to many, if not all, the gist of business.

Sir Arthur Helps was a close friend of Queen Victoria, who very soon learned to greatly appreciate his powers of mind, his intuition and discernment, his skill in the analysis of character, and his masterful grasp of business exigencies. Helps counsels with a strength, clearness and directness which leaves little doubt or uncertainty in the mind of the reader.

Over the past 25 years, Adam Starchild has been the author of over two dozen books, and hundreds of magazine articles, primarily on business and finance. Now semi-retired, he was the president of an international consulting group specializing in banking, finance and the development of new businesses, and director of a trust company. Although this formidable testimony to expertise in his field, plus his current preoccupation with other books-in-progress, would not seem to leave time for a well-rounded existence, Starchild has won two Presidential Sports Awards and written several cookbooks, and is currently involved in a number of personal charitable projects.
