Embarassment for Muhammad Rashid.......2006-12-31

This book is horrible. This person has no idea how to present matter in clear, concise english. Thoughts skip around. OrCad is almost entirely menu driven these days and yet the book constantly refers to hand-coded text files which, besides being irrelevant, are difficult to even get to. From the first several chapters it appears to me the bulk of the material is written for prior versions of OrCad/Pspice and if you actually try to use the book you will become highly confused since none of the screen captures match the version of OrCad that is included on the CD (version 9.2). Without being rude, you can also tell it is written by someone who struggles with English, and the publisher should be ashamed that more of an effort was not made to provide relevant screen captures and logical subject matter presentation. Do NOT buy this book if you really want to learn Pspice - which is an excellent tool if you know how to use it.

This book presents the details about the OrCAD PSPICE language itself and about how to use it to do various kinds of circuit simulation. It is not focused on the GUI of OrCAD PSPICE, which is part of CAPTURE although it does include three chapters about how to use PSPICE with Capture. The book introduces the PSPICE models of almost all electrical and eletronic components, such as DIODE, JFET, BJT, MOSFET, operational amplifiers, controlled-sources, resistors, capacitors, inductors, transformers and nonlinear components. It teaches you how to describe the circuits with components with PSPICE language. Then it explains what are DC, AC, noise, transient, Fourier, and harmonic analysis, and teaches how to do these analyses with PSPICE and how to understand the results in text format and to show them in graphical format. The graphical representation of circuits in Capture will finally be compiled into a list of PSPICE statements. Moreover, it tells you how to adjust the model parameters of active components (such as transistor's Beta, diode's breakdown voltage), how to set the initial state at time = 0 of capacitor and inductors. numerous circuit examples are interwoven with the PSPICE language teaching in a smooth pace. If a simulation user with Capture GUI can use the PSPICE language itsself, it is of great help in advanced simulation. The appendices includes handy and useful information about language statments, device model paramters and device labrary. The only thing that I don't feel satisfied with is that there is little about digital simulation.

This book is an excellent book for students and designers of electrical engineering related specialty.

Not what I expected.......2002-04-24

Most of this book is manual node entry ("old school PSpice"). Although the author fully explains the reasoning,I was looking for instructions on Capture and Schematic, which are more useful to me. Only 4 out of 17 chapters discuss Capture. Nothing specific on Model editor.

Good instruction - poor organization.......2002-04-24

Examples are easy to follow. The first chapters are almost spoon-fed. However organization is whack. The book is designed to be used from cover to cover - no skipping chapters. The index is horrible. In most texts, topics are arranged by chapter in the CONTENTS section and all topics are arranged by alpha order in the INDEX. In this book, it's inconvenient to lookup "model editing" for example. One has to look in each chapter to find which takes a lot more time than scanning an alphabetical listing.

Brilliant and timely.......2005-01-06

Such wildly inaccurate self-deprecation is typical of Robert Benchley. In his lifetime he was known as a critic, a humorist, an actor, and an auteur, while the weekly luncheons he shared at the famous Algonquin Hotel Round Table with other luminaries such as Dorothy Parker and Alexander Wollcott became the stuff of legend. Famous, he was, indeed--but also a very fine writer, a fact readers can judge for themselves in The Best of Robert Benchley, a compendium of 72 of his funniest stories. There is, for example, his meditation on the future of the species, Future Man: Tree or Mammal, in which he posits that the humans of the future will be both brightly dressed and legless (you'll have to read the essay to find out why); or The Real Public Enemies, in which he laments the hostility of inanimate objects: "Take for example, when you are trying to read a newspaper on top of a bus. Suppose you want to open it to page four. The thing to do is not to hold it up and try to turn it as you would an ordinary newspaper. If you do, it will turn into a full-rigged brigantine, each sheet forming a sail and will crash head-on into your face, blinding you and sometimes carrying you right off the bus." His solution? Who has not, at some point in his or her life, stood in an impossibly long line at the post office, only to discover, upon finally arriving at the counter, that some essential element of the letter or package has been done incorrectly or left undone entirely? No subject is too small or too trivial to escape Benchley's notice, yet he invests each with the trappings of epic conflict--underdog Benchley against the newspaper, or hay fever, or noise--struggles which all too often leave him bloodied but unbowed.

Benchley was kinder than Dorothy Parker, less manic than S.J. Perlman, not quite so curmudgeonly as James Thurber--and arguably the funniest of them all. This collection serves as a living memorial to one of the century's great comic geniuses. --Alix Wilber

What a joy!.......2003-06-25

The world can be divided into two groups of people, those who have read Benchley and those who have not. By far, the happiest people are those who fall into the former category.

Robert Benchely was one of the most talented humorists ever to grace the pages of American magazines. His personna was that of a befuddled upper middle class pater familias. He did not take on the great events of the day, this would have been a waste of time given his world view. What he did do was to satirize brilliantly the little inconsistencies of daily life.
