You wouldn't know this book is a great marketing book and writers should read this one. The book focuses on the film industry but there is a wealth of information in here about marketing yourself that writers can benefit from. There are some great excercises you can use to start defining yourself and begin your publicity. Whether it is for your book, screenplay or yourself.

I just received this book today, and cannot put it down. Honthaner writes with such ease, it's almost as if she's sitting there discussing the entertainment industry with you. As a recent graduate and an intense drive to make it in Hollywood, this book suits all of my needs in seriously knowing the ins-and-outs of the business. I would definitely reccomend Hollywood Drive to anyone with a similar passion to want to know all and be in the mix of the entertainment industry.
Film School in a Book.......2005-11-08
I attended author Eve Honthaner's class at USC in 2004. Titled "Breaking In, Hanging In and Making It," the class gave me all the skills and tools necessary to make it into the film industry in Hollywood. Her encouragement and burning desire to help people succeed in following their dreams translates well from the classroom to the page. For those who don't have 6 weeks and $2,000 to spend on her enlightening course at USC, this book is a real bargain. If you are serious about pursuing a career in Hollywood, "Hollywood Drive" will teach you the importance of networking and all the other skills necessary to get your foot in the door. Using the tried and true methods of Eve Honthaner, I got my first job in Hollywood with Fox -- and many more to follow. I now recommend this book to everyone who dreams of Hollywood and has the courage to pursue that dream.

This book is an easy read with good information and if you are motivated, have a good work ethic and are not worried about making millions TODAY you'll get a lot out of it. Warning-if you are not dying to be in 'the biz' or have an fragile ego, steer clear of entertainment jobs, they are not for the feint of heart.
Excellent Book, Inspiring.......2003-07-08
I don't agree with the other reviewer, maybe he was looking for a kind of book like K. Callan's. I like this book, because it provides what most aspiring actors, directors, writers need, that is, inspiration. It provide full of ideas to break in showbiz, the importance of networking, the difference with the corporate world. If you are looking for acting books, I recommend Acting is everything, a book full of resources and savvy advice.
Save your money-buy the Sunday paper instead........1999-04-30
Given the option I would have rated this book zero stars. This book does not provide any information that the average person doesn't already know. Tepper outlines success stories, but does not give helpful advice such as organizations to contact, or addresses of companies. Tepper says to make contacts. I know that, but how and where? You will not find that here. Get an internship. Not one possible lead. This book was obviously not written by someone trying to break into the entertainment industry because if it was they would have included the information a reader is looking for.

I purchased this book for the college career center where I work. As is my practice, when I have time, I glanced through it when it arrived. I have to say that this book is actually hard to put down. Now I may be biased, having been an English major with an interest in the communications field at one time, but I think that most people would agree that this book is well-done. Not only is it informative, but it is well-laid out, with "Career Tips" in boxes, numerous graphics and handy lists of suggestions (eg: "Twenty Tips on How to Break into Publishing."
I would recommend this for any career resource library, as well as for any individual, especially college-educated or college-bound, who is interested in an entertainment or communications career.

If you are looking for a reference book that you will want to refer to from to time, this book will be one to tresure. I used it as a suppliment for Electrical Engineering class in Circuit design. It worked well for me becasue it explained everything in a fairly clear manner. And at the end of the semester I made an A in the class. Don't miss out on this one.

This tasteful edition is a facsimile of the limited edition produced by the Arion Press in 1975, as designed by Mr. Grabhorn's equally esteemed associate, Andrew Hoyem. A delicious book.
