Best book for electronic technicians........2004-11-11

This book is very helpful for anyone interested in troubleshooting electronic circuits. You don't have to go to college to learn electronics because this book has two years worth of college inside. I give this book five stars for it being such a useful book.

beware.... i have an older version of this exact same text.........2003-02-02

beware.. i have an older bersion of this exact same text... and it is all in electron flow... nowhere on the cover did it say it was so...

so most of your currents will be coming out of ground.. and going into the source.. (source as in like +12 line voltage driving a cascade of amplifiers.... and all the grounds at the bottom.. ur currents are coming from the ground.. up to the +12 line voltage... althought this is what electrons do.. in real life.. everyone works with conventional flow)

also.. since this book is a condensed version of two of his other books.. the topics are coverely slightly... i.e... the only BJT transistor biasing technique the author goes into is the VOLTAGE DIVIDER BIAS.. and even that.. he doesn't go into that much...

This book covers all the basics, but it doesn't go deep enough into the theory nor applications...

The problem is, this specific series of books covers 2 books, crunched up in the space of one... usually CIRCUITS is a separate textbook and Electronic Devices is a different textbook ..... but here Floyd squashed it into one book...

He even has separate series of textbooks.. where CIRCUITS and ELECTRONIC DEVICES are separate.... i suggest u buy the two separate ones... instead this condensed package.... those two are really good

I had engineering years ago, but no electronics. I bought the 4th edition of this book and used it for self-study. I think its a very good book. I thought the examples were good and I worked a lot of the problems. I dont't recall many mistakes in the text or the answers. I also thought the section on the oscilloscope was good. I did have to read some of the material over several times to understand it. Chapter 19 Amplifiers and Oscillators was the hardest material to me. There was some material in that chapter that I never could figure out. I learned a lot from this book!

What a terrific introduction to electronics! The author explains electricity, the relevant formulae, the basic physics of electricity, electromagnetism and a lot more. The text requires no more than algebra and right angle trigonometry. I find the text clear, engaging, and quite understandable even without an instructor to help me.

Each chapter begins with an outline of what is going to be discussed, chapter objectives, key terms, application assignment, web materials, and an introduction. The text uses color very well, is richly illustrated, and is mindful of the student learning process. I like the way the author introduces a point, poses a problem that he then solves, and then asks you a similar problem to work on your own (with the answer provided at the end of the chapter). At the end of each chapter there is a bullet point summary, key terms with definitions, a self-test to check your understanding, and a section by section set of basic problems.

The text has 21 chapters divided into three parts. Part 1 discusses DC circuits (quantities & units, voltage - current & resistance, Ohm's Law - Energy & Power, Series Circuits, Parallel Circuits, Series Parallel Circuits, Magnetism & Electromagnetism). Part 2 discusses AC Circuits (Introduction to Alternating Current & Voltage, Capacitors, RC Circuits, Inductors, RL Circuits, RCLS Circuits & Resonance, Transformers, Time Response & Reactive Circuits). Part 3 discusses Devices (Diodes & Applications, Transistors & Applications, the Operational Amplifier, Basic Op-Amp Circuits, Special Purpose Op-Amp Circuits, Measurement - Conversion & Control).

There are also 5 appendices having a table of standard values, capacitor color coding & marking, Norton's Theorem & Millman's Theorem, Devices Data Sheets, Field-Programmable Analog Arrays (FPAAs). A glossary, index and answers to odd number questions are provided as well.

This text is, of course, usable in college or high school introductory courses to electronics, but it is also usable by interested general readers who want to build or fill in their understanding of the basic principles and applications of electronics.

If any good teachers in this field are available around you, this can help you learn from the teachers very well. But if not, it might take you much time to realize what MRH is, how it works, and what the background is, even if you are familier with basic science (university level). More examples of practically being (having been) used structure, better you understand.

It is a collection of anecdotes with no connection or context and is designed to be read in little bites. The stories are not well sourced, and one wonders if they are accurate. But most readers won't be that concerned with this.
