This book provides a coherent explanation as to why the policies of financial liberalization and financial intervention have been unable to achieve the goal of improving the access of borrowers to the loan market, irrespective of size. This is one of the prime criteria for achieving efficiency in the operation of the loan market and its failure has resulted in increased uncertainty and financial fragility.
Santonu Basu develops an original theory of credit rationing which provides a theoretical explanation as to why neither policy has worked. He introduces two new concepts, namely credit standard and credit risk, in order to explain why bankers ration credit to some, while quite willingly offer loans to others. He then uses these two concepts to show why the implementation of either policy involves forcing or inducing the banking sector to relax its credit standard requirements. This in turn increases credit risk to an unprecedented level, thereby engendering either financial crisis or financial fragility. The author employs empirical evidence from both India and South Korea to demonstrate how these scenarios can unfold.
Financial Liberalization and Intervention provides a comprehensive analysis of the uncertainty that prevails in the operation of the loan market. It will be welcomed by scholars and students of economics, policymakers, banking regulators and the financial sector as a whole.

Not like the other Arco books.......2003-01-31
I bought this book ... when I received word from my dad that GM was taking referals for Industrial Mechanics and he turned my name in. I needed to quickly brush up on my mathematical and mechanical skills before taking the pre-employment exam. This book really let me down.
First - It didn't cover anything about how to do any of the shop mathematics until after you (the reader) had taken the practice exams. NO formulas, equations, NOTHING! And they DID explain it at the end of the exams, but not well enough to understand where you the reader screwed up.
Second - There were so many errors I lost count and closed the book never to read it again. Several of their answers were wrong; there were many typos and miscalculations. I don't buy a preparation guide for errors all it will do is confuse you as to if you are correct or forgot how to do arithmetic. I checked several of their calculations with a TI-90 calculator and the answers I received were not the same as theirs. ...

It has a lot of useful information, but for the mechanically inclined test takers, you don't need this book.
I took the AFOQT and I used all of my practical knowledge and experience to answer the mechanical comprehension questions.
This book is useful for those who have no idea what a lugnut is, or why Ford puts a differential in the rear of RWD cars.

This here is a wonderful book that has all the information that you will need to pass most Mechanical aptitude tests, well written and has alot of explanations on how things work,very educational, I highly recommend it.
To the auther you can actually earn a 5 star rating on this book if you would add a section on Mirrors (concave,convex,plane) and how they work.

I read other people's reviews for this book before I purchased it,so based on that I bought the book. Now that I bought, I honestly do not recommend it to anyone. The book starts with questions and multiple choice answers for everything then you find the answers a few pages later.
There are no explanations for the answers or how the stuff works.Basically it is a look and memorize book without any theory of operation or coaching on how things work. The paper is cheap and the fonts are small, hard to read. Instructions are confusing. I do not recommend it at all.

I just used this to study for an examination for an apprenticeship with the local plumbers, pipefitters and refrigeration specialists' union and I was thoroughly over-prepared.... which was great!!!! I passed with flying colors and i have my interview next week!

This book delivers what it says, but really is no help to you if you have any kind of education. Most of these tests have questions like "6+3=?"
or have two people sitting on one side of a hammock, and it asks which side is holding more weight. It's not really anything you can study for. If anything, get this book to flip through it so you know what to expect; it's cheap so you don't really have anything to lose.

The only differences are:
This text includes some basic knowledge of tools and fasteners, as well as test taking tips.
The hidden figures are WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too easy. The same goes for the Arco test. If you've taken the AFOQT, you'll know what I'm talking about. The hidden figures are a lot more complex.
The rotated blocks are also more complex in the AFOQT.
Unless the military sets different standards for the various branches, you should expect the same in other tests. This book isn't all that helpful in my humble opinion.

I used this book to help me prepare for a test for a technical job. I found that this book helped me prepare and I had a lot of similar questions at my interview. The answers were explained clearly, and the graphics were excellent.

If You Like Wasting Money Buy This Book.......2007-04-06
This book is nothing more than a chaotic brainstorm session with no pertinent information at all. You could save yourself time with a pen and some paper and a group of friends because thats all this author did. Book doesnt SHOW you how to start up any of the ideas it just lists them. It also has a plethora of grammatical errors and is almost as if the editor didn't even bother to read it before sending it to the presses. It is a complete waste of time and not worth the ninety cents it costs to buy it used.

This is a great book for someone looking for ideas for a new business. I'm planning on starting a new business in the next year and need a good idea so I can start the research and put together a business plan. I found 10+ possible ideas in the book. The only problem is that when I started doing the research for some of the businesses I found out that many of them were great ideas about 5 years ago. Many of the business ideas from the book are being franchised out.
I would recommend getting this book to get some more ideas about a business start up and then go from there. While I was researching an idea in the book, I found out about another opportunity and I'm now working on a business plan for that idea. This is a great place to start if you want to start a business of your own, but don't have an idea of what you want to start that business in.
This is not a book to tell you how to start a business or how to write a business plan.

This book is like sitting down with an experienced business man going, "I have little to none for start up costs. Can you give me suggestionS?" And then he goes off and explains a ton of ideas! Not just the subject, but giving you details to think about!

Lots of Ideas, Lots of Repeats, Lots of Errors.......2005-01-25
There are indeed a lot of ideas in this book - but there are also a lot of repeats, the same concept showing up in different categories. There were a lot of typos, and there was a lot of outdated information, as well. Some listings had useful information, while others just described a concept. It was as if the author and all his friends sat down and brainstormed ideas, and then he fleshed out the ones he knew something about. And nobody bothered to run the spell-checker! The icons for cost made no sense - why would a drop-ship online business have more expense than an on-the-ground retail version of the same business that required buying merchandise?
If you are looking for an overview of potential directions and types of businesses you could start, this is a good book to kick-start your thinking. If you are looking for an overview that actually provides some information about where to go for more information on how to get started, this only does that for about 30% of the listings. Just don't count on the stars (potential) and $$ (cost icons) because they don't seem to be realistic.
A practical guide to business ideas.......2002-08-01
This book is easy and fun to read and packed with tons of great ideas. In the past I have purchased other books similar in topic and was always disappointed by the fact that the authors seemed to point out the obvious and went out of their way to constantly tell readers what they must know in order to succeed, over and over, and over...I find this to be subjective at best and at worst mind numbingly boring to read. I was relieved to discover this book was different, the author simply features a ton of ways you can make money working for yourself in a quick read format. I'm working with a few of the ideas in greater detail and have found the information to be spot on the money and well researched. I highly recomend this book to anyone who wants to get out of the job frame of mind and start making more money by using a few simple ideas.
