In 1981 I saw Adam and the Ants for the first time. Adam Ant rocked my small town world then and 25 years later his music still has the power to do the same. This is a fascinating story of a brilliantly creative talent whose struggle with mental illness did not stop him from producing some of the best music of his time. The story is riveting from its portrayal of the very early days of the brief punk era that passed almost unnoticed here in the states through the rise that made him a darling of the MTV generation of the 80's. This is a man who has faced and conquered many demons. His music was my solice through many dark times of my own, I wish him a future full of only bright things. This story is a must for any Ant Fan.

Adam Ant Is Back And Very Strong !.......2006-09-28

This book is a very rare and interesting look into the mind of a true pop icon, Adam Ant. Even in his heyday of the 1980's, Adam was a quiet man that did many interviews but never spoke in great detail of his true feelings or personal views on his life. It was never his true nature to expose himself on a personal level to the public at that time. Adam wanted his image and music to do all the talking for him. For Adam, to write this book now and also record the audio book himself is extremely rare. For the fans, This is the first real chance to understand a very complex man. Brave and bold was his image back then but now Adam is willing to put words to his life and experiences for the first time. In the 1980's, Adam hid behind the native American war-paint and fancy dress costumes. Since then, He has been marked with horrible rumors of mental illness in the press and a lot of bad moments. In the book, he answers all those questions and sets the record straight. I believe that's why he wrote the book, to tell HIS story and not the press to it for him anymore. In 1993, Adam finished his first album in many years with, Wonderful. The title track song and video did get a lot of airplay in the states and England. For awhile, it seemed Adam was back on track and doing well. The record, as good as it was, just didn't make a big splash. Adam never got over this and sank deep into a deep depression. As a life long fan, It was hard for me and all the true fans to read all the terrible news stories to come. Adam Ant goes into a local London pub and pulls out a fake gun on those making fun of him, locked up in mental hospital for treatment. Adam Ant hits neighbours house with rocks, again gets sent to hospital. I spent the day with Adam back in 1984 on the "Strip" tour of the USA. I can't say I knew him well but the Adam I talked to was very smart and very together. Adam was not crazy or out of touch with reality at all. He did not have the wild and crazy backstage life going on at all. Adam was dating Jamie Lee Curtis at that time, but I got the impression he never lived or liked the out of control Rock n Roll life-style anyway. Even though he was 30 or 31 at the time, most of the fans at the show were not even old enough to drive. In the book Adam does talk about his relationships with Jamie and many others. I'm sure he will record again, and I hope he does. God bless you Adam and I hope you are doing well. Stay strong and all will be well for you. For the fans, buy this book, you will not regret it. But most of all...always stay fans forever because your "Antpeople" After all right?!!

This is a brilliant book by a haunted man of genius.......2006-09-14

Adam writes his prose narrative with as much verve and pathos as he wrote his witty, world-illuminating lyrics. I simply loved his poignant descriptions of his sad slide into, and soldierly struggle out of, the sunless depths of mental anguish. I can't wait to see Adam's next phase of creativity. I wish him well!

Hip Hop vs. Old School?.......2004-07-26

It is probably obvious to any thinking Black American that the movement toward an equitable society is lacking in leadership today. The old school civil rights leaders are not connecting with the Hip Hop generation and the Hip Hop generation does not relate to where the civil rights leaders from the sixties and seventies are coming from. Yvonne Bynoe explores the reasons for this disconnect in the Black community. Her book, STAND AND DELIVER, is rich with the history of the civil rights era and also delves deeply into the psyche of the Hip Hop generation. She is equitable in placing responsibility for shortcomings from both generations where they belong and gives credit where it should be given. Bynoe thoughtfully explores the history and the reasoning behind each generation and gives reasonable explanations about why people do the things they do.

What makes her book an outstanding read is that she doesn't just ask the questions; she also provides reasonable solutions and outlines exactly how activism can once more be a part of the Black community. She gives concrete suggestions for the questions the Hip Hop generation must ask, such as how do we make America an equitable society. She even gives information on how to disagree without destroying a movement. In addition, she reminds those from other generations that they must come to the Hip Hop generation as equals, not with a snobbish attitude that suggests that they know without a shadow of a doubt, how to solve the problem of inequality in America. Bynoe also reminds us that in the new century, we can no longer exclude people from the movement because of race, class, or economic condition but we must find a common ground to insure that all Americans have an equal chance to be the best that they can. I frequently found myself nodding in agreement as I read her words. She is a voice to be reckoned with.

This is an excellent and timely book! Ms. Bynoe provides new and important insights about how we should critique and engage political leaders and activists. She is truly an independent thinker who is more interested in people improving their communities than in them propping up ineffectual Black leaders, young or old----based on out-dated rules about party or race unity. Her thoughts about Hip Hop activism are on the money. It is time that the Hip Hop generation move beyond the rhetoric of political activism to actually implementing the tried and true, long-term organizing and mobilizing strategies that actually helped us to make progress years ago. Registration drives without plans to get folks to the polls are not effective! People who talk about problems but who have no solid plans to solve them are irrelevant! Read "Stand and Deliver," Yvonne Bynoe is definitely a new and important voice that we should pay heed to.

The paperback, Stand and Deliver, appeared to be appropriate for contemporary readers, it didn't seem to be dated. The screenplay and the book were tied together well. Of course some details weren't covered in the movie. The book is an easy read and kids of all ages can relate to the subject matter. I don't feel that it was the predictable or a waste of paper, as the other reviewer indicated. Giving the book a one is pretty unfair, considering that a movie was produced from the screenplay. If the book were that terrible, I doubt if a movie would have been created.

Waste of trees.......2001-01-01

To print this book, is a crime againist nature, because the waste of trees to make the paper. This books was predictable, and uninteresting. Characters were unrealistic and had no connecting character traits. The plot was plain STUPID! Don't read this book.

Excellent resource for complicated process.......2006-02-26

When a friend of mine was considering bankruptcy, I helped her choose a book to read that would explain the process in simple terms and explain what to look for in a bankruptcy attorney since she and I recognized the dangers of doing her own bankruptcy. She ended up purchasing this book because of its straightforward explanations, compassionate advice and helpful resources. Although going through a bankruptcy is never easy, this book helped alleviate my friend's fear and confusion.

Nothing Else Needed .......2005-03-12

All my questions were answered which then helped me to get started. What appears to a difficult & complex matter is easily defined and laid out in simple terms. Mr. Ventura is to be commended for his straightforward approach as he discusses the necessary details. Fron what I eventually learned, this book sets the stage to plan a course of action and helps one to intelligently interact with a lawyer, but professional assistance (a lawyer) is best needed to complete the bankruptcy process.

The most helpful and easy to read book on bankruptcy .......2005-02-08

The Bankruptcy Kit is an extremely helpful and informative book on an issue that is sometimes very confusing for the average person to deal with and understand. This book puts all of the neccessary information into layman's terms, allowing the reader to easily understand the neccessary steps that need to be taken. After reading this book I felt more at ease and informed on this topic and no longer felt intimidated to speak with an attorney. I looked at other books on bankruptcy, but I had to look up every other word just to understand the material. Every other book on bankruptcy seemed like it was written in a foreign language. The Bankruptcy Kit is the ONLY easy to read book on this topic that I have found. After reading this book I did not need to look into this issue any further because I knew all of the things I needed to do to deal with my problem. I want to thank the author, John Ventura, for connecting with all of the people out there who do not know much on bankruptcy, but who have to deal with it. I would recommend this book to anyone needing advice on how to deal with this issue.- Stephanie Gilles

Enlightened!.......2005-02-07

Mr. Ventura has once again provided us with pertinent and timely information on the subject of bankruptcy. In this book he explains everything you need to know about bankruptcy in concise and uncomplicated terms that anyone can understand. If you are familiar with his other works, you know that he is an advocate for consumers personally taking charge of their credit history and destiny. Here, he candidly provides sound reasoning cautioning the reader to seek professional advice when considering bankruptcy. The extremely complicated nature of today's laws dictate avoidance of "do it yourself" kits. I applaud Mr. Ventura for his honesty in this very comforting and informative book.

Disappointed.......2003-08-09

My daughter was in a serious car crash and has been unable to work or to pay her bills. We have been helping her as much as possible and finally talked her into starting over as her creditors have been calling constantly. We talked her into filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy and then I went and purchased this book for her. It's called a "bankruptcy kit", which one would assume would have all the forms, etc.
The book was typical lawyer [garbage] and didn't speak of filing "yourself" at all but talked about "discuss this with your lawyer". Then, I checked the book for the proper forms to use and these in the book are unable to be copied and the author suggests contacting the law records company but doesn't give an address. I was VERY disappointed and frustrated and would tell people that to purchase it, is a waste of money. I am now going to order another, highly recommended book on bankruptcies, with forms you can use, and information to help you do it all yourself.

"SHE DID AN EXCELANT JOB", IS WHAT WAS SAID WHEN I FILED MY BANKRUPTCY FORMS. FOR MONTHS, I STRUGGLED WITH THE KIT ON MY OWN. I COULDN'T GET ANY HELP FROM THE COURT CLERKS, AND I EVEN TRYED AN ONLINE CHAT WITH A LAWYER(HE WAS JUST AS LITTLE HELP AS THE CLERKS). MY OPTIONS BECAME: EITHER CALL IT A LOSE, OR ORDER A BOOK AND TRY ONE MORE TIME. WELL!, NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT TOOK ME TWO DAYS TO READ THE BOOK AND GATHER THE INFORMATION THAT I NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE KIT. I HAD BEEN WRESTLING WITH THE KIT FROM MAY TO AUGUST BEFORE I ORDERED THE BOOK. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT TOOK ME TWO HOURS TO COMPLETE THE KIT IN IT'S ENTIRETY, AFTER READING THE BOOK. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE RESAULTS OF "DEBT FREE". I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANY ONE SET ON FILLING A CHAPTER SEVEN BANKRUPTCY, AND JUST CAN'T AFFORD THE FEES OF A PROFESSIONAL.

I found this book to be helpful for filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy as it has forms with instructions and examples along side. This is not the book for you if you are exploring other ways to correct your financial situation or if you want to file Chapter 13 bankruptcy. It has appendixes which list all state and federal exemptions.

Decent Historical Account of US Antitrust.......2002-01-19

In Monopolies In America, Charles R. Geisst gives a fair overview of US antitrust issues from a historical point of view. Readers who are not familiar at all with the development, interpretation, and application of antitrust are introduced to the ambivalence about bigness in American thought over time. However, Monopolies In America is not an easy read because of a lack of coherence in the narration. Only a well-informed audience cognizant of the legal, economic, and social ramifications of antitrust can easily surf through the book and fully grasp the conflicting forces coming into play. Furthermore, Monopolies In America is a misnomer. Antitrust (law) issues cover a lot more than abuse of monopoly position. The Antitrust Paradox. A Policy At War With Itself by Judge Robert H. Bork is the definitive authority on the subject. His account is both comprehensive and scathing about the shared sub-optimal performance of the legislative, executive and judiciary branches of power as well as the practicing bar in making, interpreting, and applying antitrust rules. Judge Bork rightly attributes that shared sub-optimal performance to the too-often absence of a rudimentary understanding of market economics among the above-mentioned players.

A Great Read.......2001-01-18

This book taught me more about the topic than anything else I ever read. It is well written and very informative and doesn't use any jargon. This is a very ideological topic but the book avoids that trap and informs. It doesn't preach to the reader. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about the topic.

Geisst has written a valuable study that puts the topic into great perspective. The topic is diverse and dominated by lawyers but this treatment is well written and entertaining as well as being highly informative. Highly recommended.

While Mr. Geisst provides some interesting tidbits in the history of antitrust law, he fails to provide a coherent narrative of this important subject.
