Won't Sit on the Shelf Collecting Dust!.......2005-06-11
Just like "Wheel of Fortune's" before and after, Make Your Point is filled with "common sense of humor." But there is nothing common about it. A quick, easy read, these real tales about real people help clarify the Diamond technique introduced in the book. I always considered myself a good communicator, I know I am now a better one for having read the book. I loved the book the first time I read it, and the next 6 times I referenced it for help. In fact, I'm putting it on my gift list to give to my clients.

But what can I say...I love the book because it lays out what Bob and I have learned from years of coaching people at IBM, Merrill Lynch, Unilever and other great companies. This book should be in every library (school and public) in America. It has gorgeous art work that captivates children but is very appealing to adults, too. You can look at the pages for hours and keep finding new details. Very interesting story, too-- I learned some things I didn't know. I would like to see 1 of these books on every President.
Beautiful Children's Book.......2007-01-23
I ordered this book right away because I am such a history buff--I love reading this book to my children. It is a wonderful way to introduce them to a historic figure such as President Roosevelt, and it brings him down to earth for them to see that he was a child once too.
The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful colors and imagery, overall I give this book two thumbs up! What a talented pairing of author and illustrator. I will look for more books from this series.

The recommended Razor Blade Reading & Clue Management is the best advice I have gotten!.......2006-03-19
Recently, I conducted a spring cleaning of my personal library & found a number of interesting business books, which I have totally forgotten about.
This is one of them. I remember I had acquired it at the time I was just moving into general management duing the late 80s.
The most productive learning experience I got out of this book is the understanding & application of one of the action tools recommended by the author: Razor Blade Reading & Clue Management. Till today, this has been an integral part of my life as an knowledge adventurer & technology explorer.
In a nut shell, this action tool entails scanning (before going to bed, in the bathroom, while waiting in line, while traveling) and clipping (with a razor blade!) interested articles from business/industry magazines; & reviewing them periodically (also, exchanging ideas with collegues over drinks) by asking:
- can it affect my business?
- what problem may it create?
- what opportunity may it create?
This action also includes filing the articles in appropriate folders (to create a chronological series of data, information & clues on the particular subject)& reviewing each folder once a month for trends, gaps or revelations.
A final word from the author: Razor Blade Reading is useless unless it leads to a decision & action. This is the final test of the real value of the process.
The author even recommends Razor Blade Reading in the Sky for those busy travelling executives. He cautions: Please remove your address labels, otherwise the airlines may mail them back to you!
Although much of the book may be out of date as it was published prior to the internet era, I strongly feel the remaining action tools e.g. pyramid thinking, directed brainstorming, gap analysis, etc. as recommended by the author are still very relevant in today's context.

It's common to view the process of success as a means to a goal, but Steve Arterburn views it as success itself. The lifestyle of accomplishment defines the achiever. The author has the credentials as he's candid with his readers that he's failed and struggled over the years before having something to show for his efforts.
Writers that discuss passion in an authentic way motivate me. Arterburn is such a writer. Arterburn is a Christian who notes that true passion comes from discovery God's plan for your life. This is how he discusses a God-given dream: "The word 'inspiration comes from a Latin word meaning 'to blow' or 'breathe upon.' I love this word picture because I can just see the Spirit of God 'blowing' an idea into my brain. I truly believe that many, if not most, of the best ideas in my life have been God-breathed."

Don't bother.......2004-06-18
I have been working at home and evaluating work-at-home resources for over six years. The majority of the book (60 of its 100 pages) are franchises and biz ops many of which are 100's of dollars up to $15,000. The actual jobs are only a few pages and most of those are assembly work (which I always find suspect), sales, and mystery shopping.
While this book does list some work-at-home opportunities, you are much better off to get Lynie Arden's Work-At-Home Sourcebook as its cheaper ($13.95 at Amazon) and offers 100's of more opportunities.

After I had my boys, my life really changed. While I was indeed successful in my career, all of a sudden my family became the center of my life. I didn't really dread going back to work, but I still wanted to find a way to see my children grow up. About this time I came across this book. In it I found many companies ready to pay me for work at home. I worked with a few of them and the experiences I had were very empowering. Soon I may start earning as much from my home as I would back in the office. It feels so much better knowing that i will be there when my boys loose their first teeth, write their first words, and go on their first dates.
