Book Description
The fourth edition of Jack Chapman's salary negotiation classic includes updated Internet research sources with passwords to useful sites; new lingo for earnings conversations; thorough coverage of stock options and grants; and the final word on when to get a lawyer involved. NEGOTIATING YOUR SALARY focuses completely on the job candidate's side while demonstrating how to develop a comp package that will satisfy the employer, too.

Several lessons to be learned in here.......2007-06-06
Jack Chapman has several lessons in this book that we can all learn from. He starts by making you realize how quickly we move into talking about salary and settling on whatever happens to seem "safe" (so as to not "loose" the job opportunity in front of us), although this is perhaps one of the most important career decisions we can make at the moment.
He borrows from successful negotiation techniques at large and applies them with laser-sharp focus on negotiating the best possible salary with all parts winning. Included in the book is a discussion of elements such as evaluating stock option packages and helping the interviewee shape the job s/he is applying for, by having the interview be paced differently.
Not groundbreaking, but very useful for those planning to make a career move.
Worth thousands.......2007-05-30
I'm a career coach and my clients have utilized the strategies in this book with great success. Last week a client suggested that the title should be, "How To Make $2000 A Minute" because by taking two minutes to ask a recruiter if her starting salary could be increased, she received $4000 more in base pay. Other clients have negotiated even more. This book is definitely worth the small investment to purchase it as there is a good chance that the reader can recover the cost of the book many times over.
Good Buy.......2006-03-23
This book works! I used it to help negotiate a recent job offer last week. Using the techniques in this book I was able to secure an expense account (moderate size) and a pay increase of $3,000. I am sure this is entry level progress. However, for my first effort in negotiating I am quite proud of the results.
This book is an easy read and straight to the point. The tactics recommended are simple to follow and will set you on a trail to free thinking as to how to maximize your monetary worth.
Save your $12.95...better info on the net.......2006-02-13
This book could have been a pamphlet of about 5-10 pages instead of a book, and it should have been given free of charge. Although there are many very positive reviews on this book, this book doesn't tell you what you need to do to get a raise, but leaves you, the reader, to decide what steps you could take that might lead to a raise (or might lead to you getting terminated), with each having a different positive or negative result. This was just another attempt by a no-name author to try and make a buck off of the general public. What a waste of $13.
Informative.......2006-01-06
I received this book as a gift, but it is well worth its money. This is an easy-to-read book on the do's and don'ts of the salary negotiations during the interviewing process. The author answers questions about telling salary rates to temp. agencies as well as corporate agencies. He explains the pitfalls of asking too early and not getting the amount deserved. He explains when to ask, what to ask, and even better...what should you research before you speak on the topic of salary. The only reason the book didn't get five stars is because I'm still a little hesitant as to why he concentrated his research with the job seekers instead of the companies. Many of the things that the seekers are told to say, I'm not convinced the employer would be that thrilled about. He mentions how some may not be happy and/or lose out on the seeker's worth, but I wish there was a more concentrated fine line where both can feel comfortable during the interview(s). Other than that, great book.
UPDATE:
I just recently got a full-time, permanent Copyediting job (a job I've been trying to get forever!) and when the question about salary was asked, not only did I remember what I read from this book, but I used it word-for-word and got the job with a bigger salary than they initially wanted to give me. I'm forever grateful to this author!

Get what you deserve!.......2004-03-08
This is a fantastic book about salary negotiation and more. Not only does Chapman discuss salary negotiation (both at time of hire and subsequently), but he discusses why and how people should be paid what they are worth. He shows how both company and employee win when an employee is paid fairly, and how both lose when an employee is paid unfairly. Please be aware that this book does not advocate getting "more" unless you are not being paid or offered what you are worth.
Great Book on Salary Negotiations.......2003-03-17
Describes how to negotiate salary by taking employers through three stages of thinking about your salary: 1) budget- this is the range. I will go no further; 2) fudge it--OK, I see this person's value, let's see what I can do; and 3)judge it- I jusge this is what we need. Now, how can I pay them enough? The section on research is exceptional. In addition, there are many excellent phrases to memorize for sticky negotiating points.

A must have.......2002-10-06
This book or audiobook is a must have. I used these techniques to successfully negotiate a salary increase of 30% one year and a $10,000 bonus the following year.
This book breaks it down step by step and gives you lines to say. It was amazing! Everything the book said the employer would bring up did come up and I was ready with a counter-aurguement. Marvelous!
Don't go into another salary negotiation or performance review without reading this book or listening to the audio-tape. The ROI on this investment has been more than 1000% for me!
a profitable read.......2000-11-30
This was a fast and (hopefully) profitable read for me. His techniques are simple and forward. No magic or miracles promised, just some old-fashioned horse-sense for understanding the salary negotiating game and how and why to develop your own negotiating strategies beforehand. The mind-opening section for me was the "budget-fudgit-judgit" stages in Chapter Three "Salary-Making Rule 1: When to Discuss Money". Also good strategies to use to get a raise or at salary review time.
FANTASTIC! Chapman's a "negotiating Guru" without equal........2000-05-27
YOU GOTTA GET IT! "Negotiating Your Salary" is, without question, the best investment any working individual - or entrepreneur - can make! And what a bargain - if anyone knew what was between the covers, and what an incredible impact it would have on them financially, they would gladly spent ten times the cover price. I am an independent career consultant working with several major outplacement and career coaching entities. As a recognized authority on the subject of job search, I have copyrighted my own program and book on the topic. But when it comes to negotiating techniques, I bow to the Master. I highly recommend "Negotiating Your Salary" to everyone who wants to improve their financial position! I have "sold" this book to every single person I counsel, including a business client who drastically needed to learn how to stop being shy about asking for what she was worth. My copy of "Negotiating Your Salary" is already dog-eared because I read it over and over again. It's my "negotiating bible."

Could be better..........2007-07-17
This book doesn't give enough information about how and what negative items to dispute on your credit report to raise your credit score.
This is a good "how-to" book........2007-07-15
This book is informative and helpful for readers looking to improve or repair their credit. Although, do not be mislead with the title, this product is not a "quick-fix" for your credit troubles.
I found the information to be helpful and informative and the response letters well written all of which are helpful with achieving your goals of good credit.
Practical and Useful.......2006-08-19
This book is wonderful for someone with no knowledge of credit. It walks you through the entire process. Recommended!
Complete guide.......2005-07-11
Terrific book that covers everything you need to know about understanding credit, budgeting your money, getting your credit report, fixing your credit, preventing identity theft, etc. It's written in an easy to understand way and has a CD with all the forms which is really convenient.
Customer Reviews:
This book has given me financial freedom.......2007-09-07
I was in a big mess. Without going into details - I owed almost $95,000, my yearly income is $45,000 before tax, and I am supporting a family of 3. I live in New York. My apartment rent alone is $1,100. Owed amount was getting bigger and bigger because of the interest. Obviously, I wasn't eligible any kind of loan.
No money to hire an expert. I didn't have money to buy many different books. Luckily the one I picked was the right book. Now, I had the will and I had the right book. I owe only $7,000 now. My total credit limit from different credit cards is now $175,000. My bank is willing to give me loan. Didn't happen overnight or it didn't happen without any work on my part -- but it did work out with the help of this book.
Thank you, Mr. Kelly.
A good book to help YOU get started.......2007-07-12
This book is very helpful. To the reviewers who said there were a bunch of useless forms in the book....yeah if you don't use them. I mean he tells you what to do, gives you a form to go by all you have to do is work towards your goal...getting that credit score up. What do we expect our credit scores to go up just by purchasing/reading the book? You have to do something.
pretty good - I rate it a solid 3.5.......2006-07-09
Pros - easy to read and concise; good tips on how to establish and re-establish credit; good job explaining the credit reporting process and the importance of credit and the three types of lenders (prime, subprime, and secondary).
Cons - does not include info about credit scoring; steps for fixing credit are too cumbersome for the average consumer to follow; tips for how to strengthen credit are ineffective, outdated, misleading - such as having account added to your credit record - the agencies don't do that anymore. incorrect data about the length of time chapter 13 bankruptcies stay on credit reports; sample letters are too vague.
The book could have been more detailed to help readers fully grasp credit. It's a good introdution to credit that wiill leave you seeking more information. recommendation - The Insider's Guide to credit Repair by K.E. Varner and Your Credit Score by Liz Weston.
Sucked........2006-01-09
I'm giving this two stars, because it's better then nothing, but it's just a giant listing of form letters and a boring algorithm to follow. I suppose it might actually work, but it doesn't give you an insight or knowledge you can use to work the system like the Gorilla Guide does. I ordered the two books at once figuring I'd read both, and this one flat out sucked.
Solid info. Easy to read.......2005-08-02
This book is great if you want to challenge inaccurate or "old" credit files reported by the big three agencies. The book provides a plethera of letters & follow-up letters to challenge the false reports. In addition, it offers up ways to negotiate payment plans w/your creditors.

Customer Reviews:
This Author Gave Her Own Product a Review??? Ridiculous!.......2006-06-29
I agree that the author should NOT be giving her own product a review. This CD doesn't look any different from any other "Credit Repair" CD that you can buy off of eBay for ONE DOLLAR! Most of these CDs contain BS information that you can find for free by doing a Google Search. I wouldn't waste my time, let alone $50 for the CD! The author even had the nerve to give herself 5 STARS! What a joke!!! To the author: Linda Cordes, you have damaged your credibility tremendously by posting a self-review of your useless CD. One word of advice: THINK!
Bogus review from the author??????.......2006-04-18
The Author shouldn't be placing a review under customer reviews as they are not anything but BIAS.....only CUSTOMERS that have read and put into practice the methods that are shared should be writing reviews. I found her review of her own work deplorable!
Argh! What nerve!

WARNING: Here's Another Credit Repair Rip-Off.......2000-05-11
"The Complete Guide to Credit Repair" would more accurately be titled: "A Complete Waste of Money."
Of its 128 pages, only the first 14 pages of the book attempt to offer any advice (and very basic advice, at that). The remainder of the book is comprised of the bare text of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (68 pages), a glossary of common real estate terms (14 pages), and three sets of sample dispute letters that are also contained on the enclosed diskette.
For some reason (presumably to waste paper), the authors felt compelled to produce a different set of dispute letters for each of the three major credit bureaus, even though the ONLY difference among these sets is the name and address of the recipient. And, although the authors advise the reader to send those letters via registered mail, return receipt requested, two sets of letters are addressed to post office boxes, where nobody can sign for the letters! (Incredibly, the third set of letters doesn't show ANY address; instead, the address lines are "X"ed out!)
Mortgage Originator Magazine, which publishes the book, ought to know something about the impact of negative credit on a borrower's eligiblity for mortgage financing. While the book offers some insight into the mechanics of conventional loans, however, the authors say NOTHING about the less stringent credit requirements available with federally-insured mortgage loans, an appalling omission!
Moreover, the authors are completely silent about other credit repair options available outside of the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Nothing is said about any of the other federal consumer protection laws (e.g., the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Truth-in-Lending Act, or the Fair Credit Billing Act). Nor do the authors offer any advice for negotiating with creditors or debt collectors.
While shamelessly purporting to be a "complete guide" offering "comprehensive solutions to credit problems," this book is just a brief introduction to credit repair supplemented by information that is readily available elsewhere. The reader would be better off saving $18.00 and buying "The Fix Your Credit Workbook" by Todd Bierman and David Masten, which provides far more comprehensive information and much sounder advice.

Book Description
In this revised edition of his acclaimed 1991 best-seller, Business Week's Ron Grover once again brings readers into Michael Eisner's boardroom, expanding on the compelling tale of one of the most dramatic and complex business turnarounds of the 20th century. Completely updated, The Disney Touch continues the colorful and intriguing saga of an entertainment dynasty, including The Disney Company's bold $19 billion deal to buy Capital Cities/ABC. It is a fascinating read-and an insightful, in-depth account of how Disney evolved from a stagnant "has-been" into one of today's most successful and respected corporations. Grover, a veteran Hollywood business reporter, conducted exhaustive interviews with dozens of Disney insiders and other sources in this thorough examination of a remarkable comeback. In his exciting new edition-which is sure to appeal to a wide spectrum of readers-Grover takes another behind-the-scenes trip into the wonderful world of Disney, revealing how: Disney redefined the entertainment industry with its 1995 "mega" deal to buy Capital Cities/ABC. Disney executive Frank Wells' tragic death led to the demise of the daring management team that had guided the company's extraordinary comeback. Legendary studio chief Jeffrey Kazenberg's high profile departure affected the company-just as it was enjoying its unprecedented success with its animated blockbuster "The Lion King." Team Disney rescued its failing Euro Disney theme park with the help of a wealthy Saudi prince.
Customer Reviews:
Good collection of Disney trivia.......1999-03-25
For trivia buffs, this book is chock-full of Disney vitae. Since I'm not interested in the year, actors/actresses, gross revenues, etc. of all of the Disney movies, about 80% of this book was unnecessary. My purpose was to compare the Walt regime with the Michael Eisner organization. Clearly, the Eisner story is a lesson in a hurting kingdom, in search for a white knight, with major doses of pixie dust and how the kingdom's economy turned around. Informational, not really enjoyable. I read it for a doctoral class.
This book is unreadable, it's so bad........1998-08-27
My first question is whether or not Grover even reread his own book. Was this book edited at all? It is ridden with distracting typo after distracting typo. I forced myself to read about 100 pages, and it was absolutely maddening. The first sentence of the book has a typo, for goodness sake!!!! It's like writing, "It was the best of tymes, it was the werst of times." Can you imagine???!!! That set the tone for the rest of the book.
I am amazed with Grover's inablilty to communicate a coherent thought. It's as if he wrote each chapter in a vaccuum, repeatedly and painstakingly reminding us of the background of each player in the Disney story. For example, at some point one would think he would give the reader enough credit to remember who Richard Rainwater is without repeating his full name and telling us who he is everytime he's mentioned.
This ranks right at the top as one of the worst books I have ever TRIED to read. The best thing about it is the picture on the front. A 4th grader could write better than this. Do yourself a favor and don't make the same mistake I made by buying this garbage. There has to be something better on the Disney story out there...somewhere...even if you just read a review of Mulan.
One of the three best books about the Walt Disney Company.......1998-08-23
How Eisner and Wells revamped Disney and made it what it is today. I consider this book as being part of a triptych of Disney reference books about the history of the company: first the official biography by Bob Thomas (1901-1966), second Storming the Magic Kingdom by John Taylor (1967-1984) and third this one (1985-today). Those are for me the three best books about the history of the Walt Disney Company.
To those books I would however add a fourth one that was recently published and that comes to the top of my list and is in a way the fourth of the three mouseketeers:
Watts, Steven: The Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney and the American Way of Life published by Houghton-Miflin; 1998.
Yuck.......1998-01-27
This book is full of mistakes (both grammatical and factual). One of the most poorly edited books I have ever read, I would discourage anyone from buying The Disney Touch. In fact, if you want my copy, feel free to ask.
