Not rocket science but helps reinforce good habits.......2007-09-04
I bought one each for two family members, daughter and brother, with the hope this book would help their 'focus'. Each is in a fast paced, time consuming job which leaves precious little personal time. This book could help, but as you may have guessed, neither has read the book even though I gave it to each one 5 months ago. "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink".
Life saving!.......2007-04-13
When my life was in chaos, this book sorted out my priorities.
I can apply almost all advices presented in this book to my life from the day I read it.
The chapters about procrastination are excellent.
Best Basic Time Management Book.......2007-01-23
This is the best introduction to time management. I believe one of the hallmarks of a good time management book is that one shouldn't have to spend a lot of time reading it. This book is brief, concise, and just about every sentence is useful. If you need to improve your time management skills start with this book.
Implementing just a few of the author's ideas will make your life more relaxed and enjoyable. However, beware of attempting to implement all of his ideas at once; this is bound to overwhelm most people and you may end up quiting your attempt at time management. Instead pick the top three or four suggestions the author makes, try them out for a few months, keep the ones that work for you, then read a little bit of the book again, pick some more ideas, try them out, and so on. After some time your life will be much better off for implementing the ideas in this book that work best for you.
After incorporating some of the ideas in this book into your life, I highly suggest moving on to David Allen's "Getting Things Done."
Highly recommended.......2006-12-10
I used this method for about 6 months several years ago and my life changed dramatically. I became known as "the one who gets it done!" This technique was life-changing! At some point it fell out of use but I am starting to use it again and seeing the positive effects on my life. If you are a self-professed procrastinator, as am I,(were) you will be so proud of what you can accomplish by following the guidelines in this book.
One of the best books on time management..........2006-10-06
There are lots of reviewers who have done a very thorough job of reviewing this book and its essential approach. What I want to add is my own personal experience using these principles. In short, they work and this brief text can really make a difference in how you manage your time and your life.
I was first exposed to this book when I attended Xerox International Center for Management Development in 1988. At that time, Xerox was giving a copy of this to every marketing employee who attended their leadership training. I used the methods in this book and still do today. I feel they have contributed to my success in the business world and I am very happy to wholeheartedly endorse this inexpensive, but invaluable book.

I wrote this book. And rather than tell you how great it is (what else would you expect me to say? ;-) I'll just give you a preview of what the book offers. This can be your first step in self improvement.......2000-03-25
"Get Organized: How to Control Your Life Through Self Management" can be considered your first step in personal progression in the game of Life. However, it can't stand alone as the "only read" necessary in personal growth and enhancement. A good book that is well organized, "Get Organized" can be a great life enhancer if combined with "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People"

Practical "How To" Advice.......2007-03-24
Before being in a leadership position in the financial industry Dwight Nichols experienced poverty first-hand. Realizing that what one thinks affects one's life, he approches the subject by pointing out that a correct belief system will have direct favorable consequences when those beliefs are acted upon. He uses principles from the Bible to instruct on God's way of leading one from lack to abundance.
Chapter 12 is particularly encouraging in that it seeks to draw out of a person what God has already put within. One idea from God can turn a person's financial situation around. That idea must be acted upon if it is to have the desired results, however. In the next chapter he lists 21 steps of wealth-building. While the book concentrates on finances, it is not a book about greed. Material possessions are fleeting. This book teaches stewardship principles, i.e., that God is the owner of all resources, that we are being effective stewards in using resources to expand His kingdom in implementing wise principles. He spends a considerable amount of his discussion on helping the poor and giving to worthy causes.
Nichols' case becomes even more salient toward the end of the book when he points out how much money is wasted forever by excessive interest payments charged by credit card companies, money that an individual could use for worthwhile causes.
One weakness is in the chapter on insurance (Chapter 10). In talking about individuals with no dependents buying insurance, he rhetorically asks why. The answer is one of faith. Some people in that category are not looking at what IS, but what will BE...their future spouse and kids.
Excellento! Are you ready to get out of debt?.......2002-04-12
If you are ready to get out of debt and have a relationship with God this book will bless you. It has clear bullets and one could read it in one day. It is a great reference book to pass on to all your love ones.
Awesome Book!.......2001-03-29
I have read many finance books regarding getting out of debt and being a good steward over your possessions, however Mr Nichols format for sharing this message was easy to read and very power. I could feel the Holy Spirit radiating from the pages. Also the fact that he grew up poor and broke the cycle of poverty by studying God's word as well submitting to God's Plan will encourage others to rise above adverse/negative circumstances to become prosperous obedient Christians. Completeness in Christ and obedience to God's word = SUCCESS.
Planning is vital for a good steward........2000-09-19
This book is vital for anyone who desires to serve God. It is focused on working with your current finances. Mr. Nichols provides sound solid advice on how to live on 70% of your income and not 90% like most of us.
This book was so stimulating to me that I compared what I was spending in various categories to what Mr. Nichols recommends. I found areas where I need to improve.
I will be teaching the young adults in my Sunday School class from this book in the next quarter.
My life has been enriched from Mr. Nichols efforts.
excellent book, great for group study or personal use.......1999-01-26
One of the best books I've ever read on the topic of God's word and Money. It makes you think, and take a serious look at where you are putting your faith. If your not following God's outline for the use of money then reading this book may be the best thing you can do!

I loved the book. It just reinforced principles that I have been taught and brought principles had missed or had not honestly adhered to. Great book for couples!!!
God and Finances.......2007-01-03
Derek made this plain and simple. It is not God's desire to see those who love Him poor. God conscious people are always rich in spirit and THROUGH that spirit the physical manifestations come.
I purhcased multiple copies to put them into the hands of others that they may find some of the same value i found...
this work is appreciated....

Book Description
The former CEO of Burger King blows the cover on corporate incompetence--and uncovers the secrets of good business--in his sharp-tongued, riotously funny book.
Why are so many businesses such depressing, poorly directed messes? Ask Barry Gibbons, enlightened capitalist, high-spirited wit, and the man who nearly single-handedly pulled Burger King out of a long, disparaging slump, rendering it robust and dynamic (without cutting heads).
In this rollicking, iconoclastic book, Gibbons blasts apart the thick wall of hubris, hierarchy, regimentation, and exaggerated complexity so endemic to the corporate world--and lays bare his 101 "Universal Laws of Business," commonsense truths about how to run a business profitably and well. His sage witticisms and sensible opinions cover motivational theory, limited terms for business leaders, being big but acting small, hurdling marketplace barriers, unhealthy profit, new branding, innovation, information technology, and more.
And Gibbons deftly answers nagging questions, such as: why mediocre products litter a hyper-competitive marketplace that demands distinct oneswhy the workforce is supremely alienated, exactly at a time when businesses need savvy, motivated employeesand why the most meticulously crafted business plan contains the one and only scenario guaranteed not to happen.
These 101 business truths will grab readers by the gut and make them gasp in relief. Because they're the things that most everyone (especially the folks laboring in the trenches) knows to be true--and wonders why the top dogs don't have a clue.

Really good business book.......2005-04-07
This is a good business book for people who hate biz books or for those who are tired of lousy ones. Very readible, incredibly funny and very useful. Should make you some money.
Humor but with meaning.......2003-06-06
This book provides lots of good stories and hands-on lessons, mainly on small things about management/leadership, i.e. "If the corporate 'grandfather' (the boss's boss) isn't part of the appraisal process, it isn't an appraisal process." Total it has 101 lessons. Isn't that great?
Net, I like it a lot. Recommend it to any mid-level manager who works in a mid-size or large company.
If you want to really laugh -- and learn -- read this book.......1999-12-24
This guy writes with the wit and wisdom of Tom Peters and the hysterical observations and honesty of Dave Barry. Loved this book. I want more.
Barry Gibbons is not "irreverent" he's dead on!.......1999-10-02
Reviewers and critics of Barry Gibbons often talk about his irreverent humor. As far as we're concerned, though, he's dead on! Even his title for the book shows it. Here's a book that talks about business in a way that we've always thought it should be run. Mr. Gibbons presents his ideas in 101 Universal Laws of Business, but in essence these just state what most of us mere mortals (i.e., without MBA) would call "common sense". He starts off with what he calls "Tests of Rightness" (no, not righteousness!) Already, we thought we could start making our own rules. Look, if it doesn't feel right, then it probably is a mistake, right? These are not namby-pamby "feel good" rules, but basic common sense. Mr. Gibbons presents all of these pieces of wisdom with with the kind of humor that makes reading a joy. We sped through this book nodding our heads in agreement, and holding our sides when we laughed too hard. Buy this book, read it, live it. You won't be sorry.

The humor bites with common sense.......1999-07-09
The management bookshelves are crowded these days with instant answers to age old management issues. Rarely does a book come along that contains as much common sense wrapped in style that is easily digestable.
Gibbons proposes 101 Universal Laws of Business stretching from the CIA Factor (Confusion from Implied Assumptions) to the absolute guarantee that what ever you have in your business plan is the one and only scenario that is guaranteed NOT to happen. Hey, even God designed the rhinoceros !! Probably not his best work, unless your another rhino.
This book proves that business can and should be fun, simple and full of common sense. You'll finish this book wishing you could work for Gibbons and even more importantly wishing you could manage like him. This book could help you get there !!

Customer Reviews:
A Bit Florid.......2005-11-01
Very positive, abstract, and florid.
Helpful points.
It sounds good. But will it be followed?
This book could have provided specific examples and real-life situations.
Still worth having, however.
Insightful!.......2004-03-01
Jack Welch, the former chairman of General Electric, is still a heroic managerial figure to many businesspeople, and his wisdom has found its way into the book market in many and various ways. Of course, numerous books are available about Six Sigma, the managerial philosophy that Welch made famous. But Six Sigma was only part of Welch's legacy. In this slim guide to the counsel of the man who earned the sobering sobriquet "Neutron Jack," author Jeffrey Krames summarizes Welch's philosophy in 24 leadership principles, followed by brief notes and exercises for training managers. We recommend this admiring condensation of Jack Welch's managerial strategies as an introductory summary which may whet your appetite for a deeper look at Welch's distinctive take on corporate leadership
The Welch Way.......2004-01-31
Talk about a quick read! This really shouldn't be a book -- it should be a magazine article. The book does provide some valuable insight on how to successfully run an organization, but as short as the book is, it can be somewhat repetitious. Although this is probably a valuable tool and its simplicity can be a virtue, it is too brief to qualify as a bona book. It can easily be read in about 10 minutes.
A Handy Handbook on Welch.......2003-03-12
The Welch Way authored by Jeffrey Krames is a real handy employee handbook for enhancing corporate performance. I found the book educative and entertaining with easy to use and easy to apply lessons to work life. This short book is different in the sense that it offers profound information and value in the form of 24 lessons from the wisdom of the world's greatest business leader, Jack Welch. No wonder The Business Week aptly describes Welch as 'The Gold standard against which other CEOs are measured'. During his tenure he transformed GE into the global benchmark for corporate leadership, maximizing productivity and labor efficiency.
The lessons offer insights into the aspects - Lead Vs Manage, importance of being informal, keep it simple, face reality, embrace change as an opportunity, challenge tradition, fight bureacracy, respect intellect and values, live speed, instill confidence, articulate vision and have fun etc.
The three most important points to pick up are - simplicity, speed and self-confidence.
It is learnt that on the foundations of boundarylessness Welch constructed his learning organisation. The declaration of Welch that 'Six sigma is the most important thing we've ever had - it is better than going to Harvard Business School' is interesting.
Further his 4E's of leadership - Energy, Energize, Edge and Execution inspire any leader. He says speed is everything which keeps business and people young. He declares that Business is about passion, winning, creating new things. Business is about ideas and fun and excitement and celebrations - a superlative perspective indeed !
Jeffrey Krames, Publisher of McGraw-Hill's business books has given a wonderful gist of what Jack Welch has to offer to the corporate world. The book is crisp in rendition and short. An ideal refresher and a handy handbook for all employees.
A must read to reflect and share the wisdom with colleagues.
Fast, Easy, Powerful Reading.......2002-06-27
Jeffrey Krames' book allows you to gulp in quickly the easy to apply and often powerful bite-size success strategies of Jack Welch. This book is the perfect buy for any manager who wants a condensed version of the Welch Way, with an opportunity to apply the lessons learned on a personal level. Great job!
