There are many books out there on meeting management but that by Donald Kirkpatrick has distinguished itself as a classic in meeting design, facilitation and ,management. The author methodically explains the essential elements of running productive meetings in a clear and logical way. The book is easy to read and use and is a standard guidebook that anyone can use.

The book covers all the meeting essentials including planning, creating an agenda, moderating conflict, stimulating discussion and participation, keeping a meeting focused, summarizing action items, problem solving, decision making, writing good minutes and following up on the meeting.

This is a very useful book whether you are the meeting leader, facilitator or participate in a meeting. It contains useful and often novel tips and techniques to ensure that a meeting is productive.

All-in-all, a clear, powerful and well written book that should avoid your organization from treating meetings as a nuisance and instead save vast amounts of time and productive man-hours from being wasted.

This is my favorite book of his. Very refreshing book. I also like "commentaries on Living". All are great. "Think on these Things" is a good place to start. I don't see any similarities to the bible as the other reviewer. His is a unique voice.

I have read quite a few of his books, and this book is more like a mirror into my soul than a book. Whether you have read him for many years or just starting, this is the book for you. Like other reviewers, i must warn you about the power of his books. Do not read them if you do not want to look within yourself VERY deeply. This is one of the few books i carry around with me at all times.

I have been re-reading this edition of 'Meeting Life' for the past week, and recommend it highly. In the past 10 years of reading K's books, I can with all humility say he has transformed my life. May he transform yours as well.

(see below for a short excerpt from the Chapter 'Is There a Meaning to Life?' page 192 of the current edition)

Note: If you seek truth, freedom, and an end to sorrow, buy it. If you desire solace, comfort, and other such 'feel goodies', I'm afraid this book is not for you. New Age this ain't. Alot of heavy lifting goes with the territory when encountering Krishnamurti.

Now for the excerpt:

'Religions have tried to offer [us] the meaning of life--that is, organized, propagandistic, ritualistic religions. But in spite of 2,000 or 10,000 years, man has merely asserted certain principles, certain ideals, certain conclusions, ALL verbal, superficial, non-realistic. So I think it becomes very important to discover a meaning for oneself, if one is at all serious--and one must be serious, otherwise one does not really live at all, which doesn't mean one never laughs or smiles--serious in the sense of a TOTAL COMMITMENT to the whole issue of life. So when we ask what is the meaning of life, we are faced with the fact that our brain is caught in a groove, caught in a habit, in tradition, in the conditioning of our education, cultivating only knowledge, information, and so making it more and more mechanical.

If we are to inquire into this very deeply, there must be great doubt. Doubt, scepticism are essential, because they bring a certain quality of freedom of mind through negation of everything than man has put together--his religions, rituals, dogmas, beliefs which are all the movements of thought.'

(and later on page 194, he says)

'We are asking what is the meaning and significance of life, and if there is any meaning at all. If you say there is, you have already committed yourself to something, therefore you cannot examine, you have already started with distortion. In the same way if you say there is no meaning to life, that is another form of distortion. So one must be completely free of both, the positive and the negative assertions. And this is the real beginning of meditation.'

I must disagree with the previous person about similarities between "Meeting Life" and the Bible. I think the two things are very different. Meeting Life is a great book, but I don't recommend it as a first book to read by Krishnamurti. You should start with "Freedom From the Known", then maybe "The First and Last Freedom", "The Awakenning of Intelligence", and then you can read other books, such as "Meeting Life".

All the studies available show that MD's prefer peer forums and meetings over sales rep presentations. I recently read a report that showed that 65% of physicians surveyed preferred MD forums over sales rep visits.

I found this book touching and could relate to the author in more ways than one as she strived to overcome the many lessons in perseverance. I especially related to the fact that the most vital thing that kept her moving forward was the fact that she wanted to be somebody. I am a survivor of many of the same things that this author has experienced and through self-healing and faith, was able to share those things in my very own book entitled "Mama and Us".

After reading this book I understand the internal dialogue that occurs when choosing to change. My attention never wavered throughout the whole book. I feel Patrice put her finger on the dynamics that occur within and around us. I especially loved the references - spiritual and personal that she used to explain the process of "doing it. Whatever "doing it" means to each individual. I have called all of my support family to recommend this book. I feel like this is an excellent book for young people so that they can realize that change is a process and not completed immediately and can expect their committment to be tested

...I had not read the book previously, just heard "rave"comments about it -- and that was enough to make me want the book.Once I received the book, I couldn't put it down, it was that good. I immediately made plans to obtain additional copies to give as gifts, but I didn't have a clue as to where I could obtain those additional copies.... A very good clue appeared in a recent "Dear Abby" column: A letter written by Wilferd A. Peterson's daughter, Lilian Peterson Thorpe regarding his essay, "The Art of Parenthood" which had been published in "The Art of Living Treasure Chest." I contacted Mrs. Thorpe and she told me that all of the essays in "The Art of Living Treasure Chest" -- as well as several additional essays written by her father, were compiled in another book by him: "The Art of Living: Thoughts on Meeting the Challenge of Life." I met the 'challenge' to find a 'treasure chest' -- and in the process found a treasure chest that overflowed with more essays than I expected. Awesome! Life is awesome! END

              It's pretty hard to take care of yourself as a woman in the world today, especially if you don't even know what taking care of yourself means. Christie and Mellan start out by teaching us what being independant really means, and give us a smooth and warmly-written guide to getting things done. I'm getting a copy for all of my friends, even those who have already taken their first steps towards financial freedom.

              "S O" refers to Sherry and Olivia-Olivia Mellan and Sherry Christie-the new doyennes of savvy saving and fiscal fortification. Based on our society's continued gender-bias earning ability (or lack thereof), women need all the positive coaching we can get. "Money Shy to Money Sure" (MSTMS) provides innovative direction, interjecting quotations from dynamic women who are also solid financially; many quoted here with refreshingly direct remarks.

              One of my favorite myths: "It's selfish to put myself first. I'm suppose to take care of everybody else." When I recently read U.S. women lose a quarter of a million dollars in potential income in their working lives, I balked. $250,000 is a lot of money to loose due to disparate wage earning. I immediately got a copy of MSTMS to learn how to finesse my current retirement plans.

              Myth #2: "I don't have enough money to do anything with." Oh, really?! Then you need to read "How to find money you didn't think you had." I know, I know...you already know these inclusions blindfolded. Herein lies the point-"finding money" does not have to look like attempting to break open the piñata at your niece's backyard birthday party!

              To honor the preceding decades of prosperity: "If I take charge of my money, I'll antagonize others and might end up alone." National statistics still show women outliving men (by 7-10 years) ergo our need to save 12% (female) versus 8% (male). Financial planners' still indicate only approximately 7% of the general American public is financially prepared for retirement. "...Antagonize others..."? "...Might end up alone..."? Hel-lo!
