4 out of 5 stars A Solid Overview of the Public Arena.......1999-11-04

Regrettably, few people today know much about the public sector and fewer still have an interest in governmental careers. This situation is not helped by the fact that getting a government job is rarely easy; the hiring process is typically overly bureaucratic and devoid of any logic whatsoever (meritocratic or otherwise). This book is a tool that may help folks as they embark on this often frustrating but potentially rewarding journey.

1 out of 5 stars This is a rip off........1999-09-26

You do not have to purchase any type of book to apply for a government job. Anyone can get a civil service job by applying at any civilian personnel office. Thank you.

2 out of 5 stars concise but outdated floppy.......2007-05-15

the book is excellent for reviewing Sabre reservations system, but for almost $100, the price I paid, it was VERY disappointing to see it came with a very outdated floppy, which did not work on my computer and which did not work on three other computers (all with floppy disk capability). A DVD should be available instead. For this reason alone, I would have returned it, but I had already written on the book! Although it was expertly written for someone NEW to the Sabre system, I don't recommend it just for the floppy disk situation alone. Too expensive.

3 out of 5 stars Good coverage of Sabre system, but needs updating.......1999-06-03

This book is a great source to self teach Sabre if you have some experience in the travel industry. If not, it looks like the book would be a great text book to go along with a learning class. The simulated disk helps you practice what you've learned. Very complete coverage, but an up-to-date version is really needed here. Overall good source to learn Sabre system.

        5 out of 5 stars Very helpful.......2006-11-05

I'm a nursing student and bought this to teach handwashing to day care and preschool students. Actually, I bought 3 different books and this was the only one "simple" enough for that age group to appreciate. The others went into viruses versus bacteria and were better for much older groups. I've used it 3 times for teaching groups and each time the children are engrossed in the story while at the same time learn about good hygiene. I especially like that it teaches germs are present even if you can't see them - something hard for little ones to get. Even though it centers around a "Princess" who has to wash her hands, the male children were just as interested in the story.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for little prince and princesses.......2005-10-07

I used this book to teach proper handwashing to a group of 4 & 5 year olds . Its was very helpful and I highly recommend it.
        Perfect for preschoolers.

5 out of 5 stars Relevant for toddlers.......2001-08-04

My 2 1/2-year-old grandson loves this book. He likes the illustrations and the simple wording. He asked me to read it over several times.

I appreciated the message because he is told to wash his hands after he goes potty, after he pets the cat and after he comes in from outdoors--and of course, before eating. I think he liked this book because he could see that the princess had to wash her hands throughout the day just as he does!

5 out of 5 stars Kid Friendly and Fun!.......2000-08-23

I'm surprised that no one has reviewed this book yet, since Amazon has sold lots and lots of copies ... my guess is that most teachers (like myself) are simply too busy to stop and write reviews :o)

I received my copy of this great book in the mail today, and my kinderkids are going to love it! It's the story of a little princess who is constantly being told "Wash your hands!" The princess is playing outside in the mud ("The little princess LOVED getting dirty!") and comes inside to eat a piece of cake. Her mother, the Queen, stops her and says "Wash your hands before you eat that." "Why?" asks the little princess. "Because you've been playing outside."

The little princess dutifully washes her hands, then stops to dance with the dog and cat on the way to the kitchen. Next the cook tells her to wash her hands, and of course the little princess asks why. This is repeated several times, with delightful illustrations, to remind the little princess (and all the children who will hear and enjoy this story) that she needs to wash her hands after playing with animals, using her potty, playing outside, and sneezing.

A humorous discussion of "germs and nasties" follows, and the little princess learns that if she doesn't wash her hands, the germs and nasties "can get into your food, and then into your tummy ... and then they make you ill."

Like Tony Ross' other books ("I Want My Potty" and "I Want to Be"), this one will be a big hit with my students while sharing an important message in a way they'll enjoy and remember.

        Tinkle, tinkle, little tot

        Sitting there upon the pot.

Any second now, you'll see ...

Sprinkle, spash and you'll go pee!

... and to entertain them while they're sitting and waiting for something to happen

(To the tune of On Top Of Old Smokey)

        On top of my potty

        I sit and I wait

        I know what I'm making...

        Is going to be great!

In short, every toddler and every parent is going to want one!

        1) This book is magic! Children will sing and giggle as they learn how to use the potty.

        2) The songs and rhymes are based on expert advice about how to toilet-train children and how to use toddler-friendly language. They cover a wide range of important behaviors such as: recognizing when they need to go to the bathroom, congratulating children for using the potty, learning how to flush, wash, and clean up any “sprinkles,” motivating kids to pee before going to bed.

        3) It contains 17 hilarious songs and rhymes created by Bruce Lansky and his silly friends.

        4) The book is charmingly illustrated in 4/color throughout by Catherine Blake.

5 out of 5 stars This book is the best!.......2007-06-19

I LOVE this book! I was originaly going to buy just one book, A Potty for Me! by Karen Katz (which by the way is excellent also!) and I spotted this one amongst the din after reading about 10 different potty books and I instantly loved it and had to get it.

I have a 3 year old whom I've been trying to potty train for the last month. I read/sang it to her as soon as we got out to the car. She sang songs about going potty all the way home! I'm very excited about that!

As a cautionary note, you may find yourself humming and singing these songs to yourself even when your toddler is napping, they are happy and catchy like that. :) You might even make up some of your own! hehe

5 out of 5 stars great potty training tool.......2007-04-02

We just used this book for the first time on our "potty training day" (with the help of Potty Train Your Child in Just One Day). It is really cute for those of you who don't mind singing silly songs to your child. It helped my daughter stay on the potty long enough to have something come out. It was her favorite book of the potty day and I know we will be singing those songs again and again for some time to come until we master this new skill (and of course when child number 2 gets his turn to learn in a year). Great book to have by the potty.

5 out of 5 stars My Tot Loves this Alot!!.......2006-06-21

I took my 19 month old to the Bookstore to choose some Potty Books. She isn't really ready for the actual training process yet but loves all things related to the bathroom - toilets, toilet paper, my underwear, saying poo-poo & pee-pee etc... I had in mind which books I thought we'd buy - but she thought otherwise. This was THE ONLY book that she would sit and read with me. She LOVES nursey rhymes & sing-songs so this really was the perfect fit and best choice for her. She "poo-pooed" at all the others that I was prepared to buy. If your little one loves sing-song rhymes, then this is a safe, fun, and SIllY choice! I guarantee that you will laugh alot when reading the catchy lyrics - Enjoy!

...my kids love to sing songs. we have gone through this book, and the kids loved it! most toddlers love to sing, and my daycare kids as well as my own kids are no different. this book gives some wonderful songs and rhymes to use with toilet training....which, let's face it, is no fun at all! hehe

An exceptionally talented pee-er, Little Monkey opens a peeing circus so he can show off his talents. Mimi wants to perform in it, too, but can Mimi pee without a pee pee?

This humorous story answers an age-old question and provides readers with a lesson in girl “parts” and boy “parts.” Children will delight in the glorification of an often taboo subject, while taking in the whimsical, circus-colored illustrations. \

Little Monkey shows off his unusual talents for the other animals and Mimi wants to be part of the circus. In spite of Monkey's disparaging remarks, she shows HER talents are every bit the equal of Little Monkey and his pee-pee. This deserves a place on the shelf with Walter the Farting Dog, Everyone Poops, The Gas We Pass and kids will be begging to read them. Not likely you'll find this talent show on prime time TV any time soon, though.

I bought this CD and songbook for my daughter and we have loved it! I gave it to her about two weeks before we started potty training as way to talk about the process of going potty and just to make it all a little more fun. She loved the songs and the fun words. She listens to the CD often and we both learned the words to most all of the songs. We would pick one to sing while she was sitting on the potty. The tunes of the songs are familiar to little kids and there are cute, easy to learn words. I have loved this CD and have enjoyed watching my daughter get excited about potty training because of it. This is a must have for those kids who love music.

        Book Description

Cecelia is a clever little girl who can do many things, even write her name in pen. But she has a problem that won't go away: she wets her bed. She doesn't mean to do it! She tries very hard, but still, there are horrid plastic sheets to sleep on and soggy nighties to wash in the morning. Then one night Cecelia has the most wonderful dream, about a little mermaid who reveals that she, too, has had this difficulty.

Even though Cecilia is a clever little girl who can even write her name, she has a problem that just will not go away. Cecilia wets her bed. Even though she tries very hard, and sleeps on uncomfortable plastic sheets and soggy nighties, simply cannot overcome her bed wetting. Then one night Cecilia has a wonderful dream about a little mermaid who reveals she also has the same problem! Penelope Jossen's lovely artwork perfectly illustrates Jeanne Willis's gentle, rhyming story and will prove comforting to any young readers struggling with this common problem of childhood.

From the very first page, The Little Book of Farting proves that flatulence can be funny-and downright fascinating! For instance, did you know that the average man releases enough flatus in a day to blow up a small balloon? Or that farts can travel up to 50 feet and have been recorded to linger for up to 20 minutes? Did you know that vegetarians fart more than meat eaters? This little book is positively bursting with such fun facts, as well as farting etiquette tips, helpful translations for foreign farting, funny fart jokes and quotes, and a list of more than 75 euphemisms for cutting the cheese! No wonder it's sold nearly 100,000 copies in the U.K. in less than two years. The Little Book of Farting is a story that demands to be heard! If the littlest room in the house is your favorite place to be, then The Little Toilet Book will have you pinned to your seat to the very last page. Packed full of histories, jokes, poems, and even a helpful list of global toilet slang (Anyone need to use the Jakes, the boghouse, the throne, or the thunderbox?), this fascinating little volume manages to be engrossing without being gross. Sure to be a number-two best-seller!
