A 'must' for any public, art or business library.......2006-05-20
Whether you're involved in business, the arts, or multimedia productions, you have to consult FAIR USE, FREE USE AND USE BY PERMISSION: HOW TO HANDLE COPYRIGHTS IN ALL MEDIA. Where other books narrow the focus to copyright protection in the Internet era, FAIR USE discusses different types of copyright issues, from how to verify what copyright law 'fair' use falls under to gaining permissions, negotiating licenses, securing releases, and more. Chapters even delve into how to locate copyright holders, how to request permissions, and how to understand copyright status of a work. Far more comprehensive than competitors on the topic, this is a 'must' for any public, art or business library.

Book Description
MediaSmart is a comprehensive how-to handbook on dealing with the media, print or broadcast. It is a candid explanation of how reporters do their jobs and how to respond; a book filled with real-world examples of what works and what doesn't. The insights and advice will enlighten even many seasoned public relations professionals, as well as the novice newsmaker.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent narrtives.......2007-01-10
If you are expecting a book that will provide detail by detail explanations, this book isn't it. However, this book will provide a nice compliment to anyone's everyday experience working within PR and communications-related fields. With just slightly under a year of experience in PR under my belt, I felt this book definitely benefitted me. The examples provided enough detail for anyone to grasp the various arguments. The best piece of advice he gave repeatedly throughout the book still holds true in 2007, "tell the truth when dealing with the media."
I found it entertaining from beginning to end and I'm comfortable recommending it to anyone.
Vanity Book.......2005-10-14
If you are looking for an instruction guide on how to manage reporters ... you are going to be as disappointed as I was when this book arrived in the mail. The essential message from the author, who tells you he is a reporter on the cover of his book, is primarily that we should talk to reporters. He gives very little real insight on how to deal with aggressive reporters who will do anything to get an "angle" on a story. I wish I hadn't purchased it.
A Hidden Gem.......2004-11-26
This book is brimming over with useful nuggets on how to deal with reporters. Stauffer shows how the real world of small and mid-sized media markets operate on a daily basis. Most of his insights are still hihgly relevant taoday, nearly a decade after he wrote the book.
Tricks of the trade.......2001-08-15
This book is full of tricks of the trade. In particular, I like the chapters on "When You Want to Talk" and "When You Don't Want to Talk". Talking is not always the best strategy. Taping the power of silence is sometimes a better aternative.

From the supplier: Financial marketers should make sure that media coverage of events concerning their companies is fair and honest, and has a favorable outcome for the institution. Media crisis management experts may be hired particularly in times of sensitive situations. However, if an in-house public and media relations team is already in place, the manner in which to communicate the negative news should be considered. Steps that financial marketers may take should include informing employees through an emergency meeting, volunteering the information to the media, staying accessible with the aid of a spokesperson, directly communicating with the public, and maintaining contact with the media people and the public. After the dust settles, the efforts of employees, customers and all people who got involved in solving the difficulties should be thanked. It is also important that a plan is in place for potential crisis situations. Guidelines for planning are discussed.

From the supplier: The press coverage of Arkansas state troopers' allegations about Pres Bill Clinton represents the problems serious newspapers have in handling sensational news. If sensationalist newspapers such as The Spectator make a big story out of unproven accusations, all papers are compelled to cover the issue. The respected Los Angeles Times attempted the right approach by researching the story. However, they were rushed into publication because the story was aired on CNN and all papers were starting to carry it. Rational journalists should find a way of asserting their judgement about what qualifies as legitimate news.

From the supplier: Companies should develop strong ties to local media in order to help in the development of any stories about their industry. This method is preferable to a demand for retractions after a negative story is published. Company officials should recognize the needs of journalists when they gather stories and not try to avoid contact or worse give out inaccurate information. A positive reaction in the face of damaging stories, such as the Pepsi-Cola Co tampering story, can diminish and even reverse wounds suffered in the original story. Tips on media relations are offered.

201 Best Questions To Ask On Your Interview
ASIN: 1570231133 |
Book Description
Regardless of how well you write resumes and letters, you simply must excel in the job interview to get the job. But conducting an effective interview is more easily said than done. This book outlines the interview process--from preparation to close and follow-up.
Customer Reviews:
Ace The Interview.......2005-12-22
One feels more confident by preparing ahead for possible questions. Know what to say when asked about the gap in the resume or why you left the last job. Read this book to get an idea of questions you might face. When asked, "What is your greatest weakness," you won't stammer out something that kills your chances.
Having mulled over the best way to present yourself helps avoid becoming flustered.
Excellent Choice!.......2002-10-11
I completely disagree with the first review that is listed here. This book was extremely helpful to me when I interviewed for a promotion, and it was helpful once again when I looked to another company. This book does not tell you what to say like most other books. The advice is to stay away from "canned" interview answers, and to instead develop your own answers based on your own work experience. This book gets you prepared for anything the interviewer throws your way. I have reviewed several other interview books, and in my opinion, this is the best one out there. I highly recommend picking up a copy.
A steaming pile of recycled cliches........1999-10-05
A child could write a better book by clipping random words from the newspaper and pasting them into a journal. Beyond unhelpful. Reading the back covers of *real* books on the interviewing process would be more productive. In case I'm being too vague for anyone out there... don't waste your money.
for the job searching.......1998-07-26
preparing for a new job interview, i need some help on answering those question about computer technical.

Customer Reviews:
Here's the entire book in 5 sentences........2007-03-09
1) If you have no money, don't invest.
2) Don't invest money you can't afford to lose.
3) You have to spend money to make money
4) If you're poor don't even think of investing
5) Thanks for buying my book now I'm richer.
Thanks for the info Bentley.
Exactly what I needed!.......2007-01-26
Regardless whether you're daytrading or not, it's full of layman's terminology in order to understand the complex nuts and bolts of trading in general. Yes, there can be information overload as one reviewer stated ... which is why I found this book invaluable. It's technical, without being stodgy and complicated. The sidebar definitions are fabulous for quick access to terms. I found it to be logically and succinctly organized ... and allows the reader to learn as little or as much as they need. Ms. Bentley states up front that daytrading may not be for the lighthearted, but even daytraders needed to start somewhere. With many individuals trading from their desktop computers, it's important to learn as quickly as possible with as much correct information as possible. Take one trade at a time, utilize the directions ... do the "faux" tutorials on other sites where you don't have to lose money. Then if you find daytrading IS for you, "Online Day Trading" can be your bible. Thanks greatly, Ms. Bentley ... it helped me considerably!
Read it, but You will need more specific strategies.......2005-08-04
This book is ok for a trader that needs to start from scratch. But you will be needing more specific trading strategies.
Keep in mind that the stock market doesn't really care if you are beginner. The rules and the trading opportunities are the same for every one. When you trade you compete against more seasoned traders, therefore you MUST go beyond the basics and employ a clear strategy to make your buy and sell decisions.
There are many "fantastic" strategies outhere, but you need to test them in order to discover which ones help you the most. That's part of your homework as a stocktrader. Test, test and test again.
Complicated systems that rely on a "boat load" of technical indicators can make you slow, and being slow in this game can be as dangerous as not knowing what to do in the first place.
I think the worst thing that can happen to a beginner trader is to get information overload. It's better to go step by step, and test a simple strategy that can show you how to focus on concrete ways to make money.
Fortunatly there are some good sites on the web today that can show you how to trade in a practical and effective way. One of those sites is Stress Free Traders ( StressFreeTraders com)
In the end, day trading is all about buying and selling according to your knowledge FILTER. Once you master and follow your proven filter parameters like a clock, you can expect to start making serious amounts of cash on a consistent basis.
Not worth it.......2004-11-26
This book was a waste of money. It's meant for beginners that aren't familiar with the terms and concepts of stock trading in general. If you don't already know these terms or the basic concepts you shouldn't attempt to day trade. If you do know these terms and concepts, then this book is a waste. The day traders survival guide is a much better intro book and I highly recommend it over this one. Other recommended trading books to start you off are High Probability Trading by Marcel Link and Trading for a Living by Alexander Elder.
Good book for explaning the nuts and bolts of day trading.......2003-11-29
I wanted a book that would take me step by step through all the technical day trader jargon and explain what all of it meant. Getting Started in Online Day Trading by Kassandra Bentley was just what the doctor, or in this case, the beginning day trader ordered. She takes a very solid approach to explaining what the stock market is all about, what day trading is all about, the procedures of doing day trading and the pitfalls of day trading. She is not shy in pointing out other books in order to gather good day trading information. This shows that she is very open to learning herself. Her book does a good job of not assuming that the reader already knows all about day traderese. There are plenty of sidebar notes that refer to terms and phrases within each chapter. This is a very good way of reinforcing what your have just read. One specific area that was very clear in explaination are the terms bid and ask. While other books use these terms almost interchangably and do not explain correctly who is the buyer and who is the seller, she does an excellent job of clarification on this subject. This point is probably obvious to old pros, but her insight that a beginner is not savy to these nuiances is good thinking on her part. She also goes into some detail on charting and day trading methodology, but not too much in depth. If anything, this was the only negative about this book. However, after reading other books on day trading, I believe that this book is the most straight forward and understandable of all of them. The book is well thought out and very concise.

Customer Reviews:
Poor.......2001-02-11
The book touches upon certain investment subjects such as TA FA and news reaction in very limited detail which in my opinion could be a serious disadvantage to the newcomer with naive knowledge gained from the book. The book should of stuck to giving an overview of what is on offer on the Internet It should definately of included a chapter to the risks associated with investing online. I think the reference made to Momentum investments is also not correct.
A nice intro and overview of US online investment services.......1999-07-20
A well organized book about US online investment services. But I would like a more extensive coverage of mutual fund and european investment services, maybe it will show up in the 2.edition?
I like the combination of this book and "Common Sense on Mutual Funds" by mr. Bogle, they are complementary!
An Investor's Guide to the Internet.......1999-04-23
This book shows the beginning online investing the different tools and services which are available on the graphically rich information superhighway. The book is well organized, there are a lot of pictures and a lot of website addresses.
I haven't read it........1999-04-10
I haven't read it yet so I can't really say with certainty whether I like it or not.
