The largest and most complete listing of 24-hour job hotlines is bigger and better than ever! The 1997 directory lists 6,000 hotlines-20 percent more than last year's edition. Includes job hotlines in Canada as well as the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Guam. Plus a special new feature: hot Internet job-search listings! Recorded job hotlines alert job seekers to employment opportunities in companies, government, and universities. So this directory is the fastest, easiest way to conduct a nationwide job search without having to leave home! Cool, but new 1999 edition is even better.......1998-12-24
After purchasing the new edition of this book by the same authors -- it is now called the "National Job Hotline Directory: The Job Finder's Hot List" -- I was surprised to see that this outdated edition is still available. The new edition is, of course, much more up to date with a lot more job hotlines in it.
But it also includes a really good chapter on how to effectively use job hotlines as part of a "savvy, balanced" job search. It emphasizes that while job hotlines give you an early shot at job openings before they are advertised elsewhere, they should be just one of several tools used in your job hunt. The book is also better organized, easier to read, and easier to use than the 1997 edition. It also includes great advice for tracking down new area codes and changed job hotline numbers. And it includes free updates via the Internet (in fact there are a few sample chapters there right now) and includes coupons for $90 in discounts on really useful job search resources.
All-in-all the new edition, which AMAZON.COM sells, is a substantial improvement on an already good book.
One-stop shopping for jobs by telephone........1998-06-12
Lists 3,000 24-hour phone numbers for checking the latest employment listings at large companies, government agencies and colleges. The new edition also inclues Internet addresses, although these change more often than telephone numbers.

Excellant resource for on-line job search addresses!.......1998-11-29
I utilize this book in our Career Reource Center in Suisun, CA. It has a lot of great information about the on line job search, where to go, etc... If you, or someone you know is just beginning to to do their job search on the Internet, this book may be of some assistance.

A Solid Overview of the Public Arena.......1999-11-04
Regrettably, few people today know much about the public sector and fewer still have an interest in governmental careers. This situation is not helped by the fact that getting a government job is rarely easy; the hiring process is typically overly bureaucratic and devoid of any logic whatsoever (meritocratic or otherwise). This book is a tool that may help folks as they embark on this often frustrating but potentially rewarding journey.
This is a rip off........1999-09-26
You do not have to purchase any type of book to apply for a government job. Anyone can get a civil service job by applying at any civilian personnel office. Thank you.

Worthless.......2000-03-24
Y2K Financial Survival Guide: scare the hell out of everyone; sell lots of books; retire.
Book Description
As co-founder of the Excellerated Learning Institute, Robert Kiyosaki has had ample opportunity to observe our public education system. Like many concerned educators, he finds it woefully inadequate for the job of preparing young people to cope with the demands of modern life. In this new edition he dissects the reasons why schools fail and describes solutions that can put every child in touch with the innate joy of learning. At a time when more children are failing in school-and more schools are failing children-Kiyosaki introduces a note of sanity and hope for improvement.
Customer Reviews:
Rich Dad review.......2005-10-06
I have been avid fan of Robert Kiyosaki since reading his first book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" in the spring of 2004. Not only have I read every book he has authored but I have been reading other works recommended by him. Mr. Kiyosaki has an incredibly simple writing style that makes it easy to capture his message. Mr. Kiyosaki does not suggest one should not go to school, however, he does point out there is more to education than sitting in a classroom and "parroting" the teachings without question. Mr. Kiyosaki not only talks the talk but he walks the walk.
This Book Is A Wake Up Call To The Educational System.......2004-09-15
I discovered this book, after reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad. The title of the book was intriguing to me, and wanted to read about it myself.
I have to say that I learned alot about our educational system in this world is very corrupted. I felt a sense of anger after I completed the book, as well a sense of relief. I never did very well academically in elementary or secondary school, and felt a failure by all means, in which I could not excel in the instructor's eyes.
What I learned from this book were these things: that failure in the school system is a bad thing, we have to be conditioned to memorize quizzes and tests, and that the students who struggle and fail, are pushed aside and rejected for the better students. I have read that the people who have achieved the greater success stories are the ones who were looked at as failures.
To me learning should be a natural thing, don't get me wrong I crave life long learning. However when learning is forced, that is not a good thing. People in the business world fail, but they learn from their mistakes and build themselves back up, whereas in school, if you fail, they think you will not amount to anything.
The way the educational system works, is that if it ain't broke don't fix it. Personal finance and money management are overlooked in the school system to be taught, because we are taught how to excel and get a secure safe job. There is no encouragement to succeed in being and thinking entrepreneurial.
To the people who have given negative reviews about this book, I encourage to re-read the book, and have a second opinion on your comments. This is a wake up call for everyone, and something needs to be done about it, if anything will ever be done about it.
Thank you Robert Kiyosaki for writing this book.
"Surprisingly helpful advice!".......2004-06-20
As a teacher, I was curious to find out just how much 'damage' this author was going to do to our educational system! After reading it, I discovered the answer: no lasting harm. This is a practical and interesting book that really IS quite helpful. It fills in the 'gaps' that we, as teachers, unavoidably leave in our students' lives. I found myself really liking the suggestions and organizational structure of this book! It contains useful lessons and useable advice for life--much like 'The Mizraim Principles' (based on the life of Joseph the Hebrew) does for Christian readers. I has hoping the information presented within these pages wouldn't hurt my profession. Now, I realize--it just might help! (...)
Lose your stereotypes/fear of the rich in 1 book¿?.......2004-05-25
Years after reading Rich Dad Poor Dad, and 4 of Robert's other books-- I picked this one up with no intention of learning anything solid in addition to what's in his more recent books. I was wrong to no end. --- "don't judge a book by it's cover" should immediately be replaced with "don't judge a book by it's TITLE" .. case in point: "if you want to be rich and happy, don't go to school?" .. the question mark at the end is what most people seem to overlook .. I have had over 10 comments on the book's title and none were positive... "go get a job and get rich" was one reaction. fortunately my mind has already unlearned the core of bs manufactured by our 'school' system (indoctrination system ;-) ).. so the comment didn't stick..though these utterances always tend to shatter your thoughtwaves temporarily..we're only human =o)In fact I would go so far as to say that, having read hundreds of books in my lifetime, this one is the most necessary to our survival at present. It's ironic that one small book could be powerful enough to crack open a tumor of dogma such as the brainwashing taking place in our schools... like many societies and institutions...this one has no place in our society. It was only a short while ago that everyone started getting jobs.. before that everyone was their own soverign and did something useful. And people act like being independant is the mew fad of the millenium.. rediculous but what else could you expect. -- Let them spend 8 years on their Ph D - i'll be a step ahead of them just by not pursuing it... probably a lot further. **NOTE: this title plus the following will reverse even the most intense brain washing caused by our educational system..not all are related to creating money...but we must also take into account the indoctrination that takes place with the 4 basic groups of academics also =)Think and Grow Rich......Richest Man in Babylon....The Secret of Life.... The Creature from Jekyll Island...Pentagon Aliens, Secret Life of Plants...Simple Steps to Impossible Dreams...Mushrooms and Mankind...Cure for All Diseases... MEdical Mafia...Alice in Wonderland and the World Trade Center Disaster... LISTEN LITTLE MAN!....Territorial Imperative....Path of Least Resistance....Lots of reading ... but at least you'll be able to use the material... would you rather go back to school?
Book Summary.......2004-01-02
Robert Kiyosaki wants to break the cycle of winners and losers in society by re-educating our youth. This process begins by providing people with the financial understanding necessary to succeed in today's society. Kiyosaki remarks, "Given the structure of modern society, the neglect of this information is comparable to neglecting to teach farming skills in an exclusively agrarian society" (10). The purpose of education is to provide our children with the skills needed to succeed later in life. The ability of education to respond to the times should be the marker by which we judge its overall utility and effectiveness. The fact that school still ends at 3pm and that students have off during the summer testify to the failure of our educational system to transition itself from the needs of the agrarian age to that of the new information age. The information age speaks the language of money and ideas. According to Kiyosaki, recognizing the importance of money in today's society is essential:
...in the past 100 years, money has become almost as necessary for survival as air, water and food. In today's world, money is synonymous with survival...To say that money is corrupting and evil in a world which runs on money makes about as much sense as saying that pigs or potatoes are corrupting an agrarian society (72).
Our educational system should adjust to reflect this new reality. By meeting the special needs of today, we are better able to develop the potential within all of us, thus preparing each of us to make a unique and valuable contribution to the world.
Kiyosaki believes that by embracing the Malthusian doctrine of scarcity the American educational system stifles the "gift of genius" that each child is born with. He rejects the zero-sum game begun in school and perpetuated afterwards permeating throughout all walks of life. Educators must realize that scholastic achievement is but one measure of genius, and the long-term effects on a child who may be a musical or mechanical genius, but not an academic genius, are disastrous. This inevitably leads to many societal problems that are ultimately education-based. Kiyosaki demands action now and asks, "Must the problems land directly on our own doorsteps before we can care" (48). Change can only be wrought once we accept that there is no such thing as a stupid child.
The fundamental principle of human learning rests upon making mistakes and learning from them. More effective learning requires engagement of not only mental learning, but also emotional and physical learning. Kiyosaki believes that today's education system errs because, "Of all the methods of learning that are available to us, memorization is the most monotonous, the least challenging, and the most boring" (127). Many blame teachers or professionals for our system's failings. However, 94% of the time it is the system itself that has failed.
Some ways in which our system fails us includes asking the wrong questions and accepting only one right answer, and by promoting specialization, rather than generalization, to early on in life. School teaches specialization. While this is good for corporations, it is bad for you. Specialization leads to decreased opportunities and obsolescence. Therefore, beware of the detrimental effects of specialization. Learn to become a generalist by committing yourself to lifelong learning and self-improvement in many areas of your life. Concentrate on such practical business matters as production, sales, accounting, organizational management, and finance. Most importantly, affect change by leading by example.
Amazon.com
Although he is an educator himself, Robert Kiyosaki doesn't think much of schools--at least those of the American variety. As the author sees it, we have continued to educate our children using the models and methods of a century ago. Not surprisingly, then, we lack what Kiyosaki calls "the basic skills necessary to be successful, happy, contributing citizens." Can his own ideas help to reverse the damage? Certainly that's the belief of Newsweek editor David Hackworth, who describes this book as "a revolutionary primer for every concerned parent, educator and all leaders from the White House to City Hall."
Customer Reviews:
A life-changing book about education.......1997-10-30
This book changed my life profoundly by altering my perception of myself and the people around me. The school system rewards kids who can remember things, but being able to regurgitate facts in an exam does not by any means guarantee a successful career or life. The kids who are artistic, mechanically talented, emotionally perceptive, or naturally intuitive, will be branded "losers" by the education system if they don't do well in exams, even though these skills are at _least_ as valuable as memory. The world would be a much better place if everyone read Kiyosaki's masterpiece.
