5 out of 5 stars Improved and Expanded 9th Edition.......2006-12-17

Now in its ninth edition, this book has become the standard of the field. It is intended to help those whose job it is to facilitate the career development process. This includes school, employment, career and rehabilitation counselors as well as other individuals who are influential in the career development process.

The ninth edition has improvements in virtually all areas, the most important of which is that it now meets all Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards. Another area that has been expanded is the concept of a career that changes from time to time in the workers life. Based on chaos theory, this realizes that the outlook for particular jobs, particular careers change from time to time and in unpredictable ways.

The strengths that this book brings to the subject in the form of the writing style and intellectual depth of the author remain; making this book both educational and entertaining.

    2 out of 5 stars fair book.......1998-09-22

Considering the vast topic this is a fairly good book. I found some of the data to be dated at this point and some what sexist.

                      1 out of 5 stars Factually incorrect.......2005-08-16

Be cautious when using this book as it contains factual errors. It has not been updated for current regulations. Also, please note that the other reviewers are 'friends' and employees.

                      5 out of 5 stars A Must Read.......2004-04-20

If you could read only one investment book in your life, this is the one. Reby takes a commonsensical approach to investing, setting the stage for people who want to achieve investment success through hard work and diligence. Serious investors will benefit from Reby's experienced understanding of asset allocation and learn how to diversify for global gains while minimizing risk.

5 out of 5 stars The Right Stuff.......2004-03-09

I found Robert Reby's book easy to read and well organized, with helpful hints before each chapter. I think it's very helpful for those, like me, who plan to retire once and on time! After reading it from cover to cover, I feel like I've got the information I need to go down the right road.

5 out of 5 stars Father with 2 kids needs advice.......2004-03-04

As a father of two college bound children I need to plan for their future as well as my own and my wife's. Regardless of daily social security and tax law changes I needed a starting place to begin to learn about retirement, investment and tax planning. With this book, I was not disappointed. The information was updated and informative -- simply explaining the differences in college savings plans or different types of IRAs or other investment tools. I am well on the way to controlling my savings...and retiring without worry.

This is a great guide for doing your homework before going into the recruiting season. I feel well prepared to face my interviews in the fall. I recommend this along with the other wetfeet guides to anyone who wants to work for one of these big national firms.

Whoever wrote the Goldman guide for y'all did a fantastic job. The writing is smooth, the reasoning is strong, and it's clear the author did his research--a good thing for me as it made my task of researching the company much easier. I went into the recruiting sessions with both guns firing, with the ammo furnished compliments of WetFeet. I felt good about my chances at snagging an internship with Goldman, but I felt like I got a leg up on the competition, having read through your guide. Thanks much!
