Book Description
We all know that everything we have is a gift from God. But sometimes it's hard to know just how to give back to God. How much is enough? What does the Bible really say? What should giving look like in our everyday lives? Filled with good news for followers of Jesus, Mark Allan Powell's Giving to God shows Christians the way to a better life and a better relationship with their money and with God.
Powell presents stewardship as an act of worship, an expression of faith, and a discipline for spiritual growth. Faithful use of our time, talents, and money starts with a deep, satisfying relationship with the God to whom we belong. We can then learn, says Powell, to give gladly and generously out of our heartfelt connection with God. Informative, concise, and eminently practical (including discussion questions), Giving to God gives us resources for best using the treasures, material and otherwise, that God has given us.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic - Brilliant.......2007-06-26
I really enjoyed reading this book. The very unique but biblical position that the author takes on giving is totally refreshing. So many books just want to press on with tithing or guilt trip stewardship, but this refreshing look at the whole concept made me want to give even more - not just money but time. We all need to consider that everything we have is a gift from God and how we use all of these gifts (not just 10%) is important.
Review of Giving to God.......2006-11-06
This is a great book on stewardship. It's easy to read and provides good news on the subject from a completely different perspective than I have ever heard before. I am using this book in adult Christian Education classes and it is overwhelmingly positively regarded. Mark Allen Powell is a superb author with keen insight and fresh perspective. I highly recommend this book!
Excellent Resource.......2006-09-16
I am a pastor of a congregation and we are using this as a congregational-wide discussion on the theology of stewardship. What I treasure about this book is that it starts with a good theological background before getting into nuts and bolts sorts of issues. Because Powell argues that all of life is about stewardship, this book is an excellent read for those who are tired of seeing people who only associate stewardship with church fundraising.
Good News about money.......2006-09-01
Lots of books toss around "Good News" this and "Good News" that. Mostly they are full of some sort of scheme of guilt and pride that typically fails at resembling anything of good news.
This is NOT one of those books.
Read this book and hear the Good News.

Book Description
What do generous people know that makes them give gladly and liberally of their time, talents, wealth, and other resources? Why should you become such a person—and how can you? Financial advisor Ron Blue explains why an openhanded spirit is the key to freedom, contentment, and joy. In Generous Living, he shows what happens when you become a giver, and helps you start right where you are cultivating a generous lifestyle. Pointing you beyond guilt-induced giving, Blue shows you the true, Bible-based way to give effectively, joyfully, and wisely. You’ll gain important insights into making a will, setting up a trust and foundation, and teaching your children to give. But better still, you’ll find out - why to give - how you can give - where it is best to give - when and how often to give
Customer Reviews:
Maximize your effectiveness and joy in giving.......1999-03-30
This book is for those who want to give more and maximize their effectiveness and joy in giving. Blue points out in his book that we have endless opportunities to give of our resources to further God's work here on earth and that we need to give strategically to make our giving as effective as possible. He discusses both the why and the how of giving. He states that we need to have a long term giving plan as part of our overall financial plan. This book showed me how my wife and I could give much more now and in the future with a few minor adjustments in our family budget. Blue challenged me to set a cap on lifestyle at a reasonable level and use the excess income to save, invest and give away. It helped me work through all the practical questions of how much to spend, how much to save and invest and how much to give. Ron Blue states that financial freedom is not found in building up net worth but rather is, "the willingness to be generous with what you have."
A great guide for giving and tithing.......1998-06-29
(Initial review June 29, 1998)
I found Mr. Blue's advice to be very helpful in making a plan for giving that would be pleasing to God. Lots of practical advice. If you are ready to get serious about your giving and tithing, you must read this book.
The piece of advice that stands out to me, is that to be a good giver, you must learn how to be a gracious receiver. That has changed the way I think about receiving, AND giving.

Customer Reviews:
Encouraging and thought-provoking.......1999-11-30
Ms. Rabey has done a wonderful job of showing us how and why we as women keep ourselves from achieving our full potential as life-givers. Though she makes us take a hard look at our spiritual lives, she encourages us every step of the way. Each chapter includes questions for discussion or journaling. Women at our church have also formed a study group to go through the book together. I highly recommend this book for any woman who feels burned out and used up.
An excellent book.......1999-02-02
This is a beautifully written book that shows how each of us can become a woman of a generous spirit, a woman who others feel drawn to because of a warm and caring heart. Women from my church are now using this book as the basis for a small group study, and we are all being blessed by it.

Book Description
This extraordinary little book has the power to heal and foster relationships, console and empower individuals, create community and help save the world by providing a spiritual ecology for our daily lives.
Think that’s a bold claim? It is, but it’s also true. We can all be generous with our money when an occasion like Christmas rolls around, or when disaster strikes as it did with the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004. But Lucinda Vardey and John Dalla Costa say that this kind of giving segregates generosity, and makes it a special activity only for special times. If we’re truly going to help this troubled world, as individuals we must investigate other possibilities for being generous as well, by helping those we interact with every day: our children, colleagues, parents, friends and the homeless men and women we encounter when out and about in our cities. We learn that the four most generous words in the English language are “I’m sorry” and “Thank you.” We learn that if we ask, “What do you need?” we may be surprised how readily we can provide assistance, and how a single generous act may turn into something that circulates to include many.
Lucinda and John are a married couple who have committed–they say “humbly and imperfectly”–to making generosity a central practice in their daily lives. What they refer to as their art of right living, within family, work and community, is both a mode of being and a value that infiltrates all others. Generosity inspires and guides them, and continually tests and teaches them. This book is filled with true stories they’ve collected about generosity in action. Being Generous is their gift to readers, written to enable and encourage us to follow the generous way.
She was famous for her work with the poor in the streets of Calcutta. One day a beggar by the road ran up to her with a small coin–financially worthless to anyone but him. It was his day’s take on a long, hot and humid day, and he wanted to give it to her. She pondered what to do. If she took the money then he would have nothing at all, but if she rejected him, it would not only hurt him but insult his generosity. She stretched out her hand–he, who never had the chance to give, could give to Mother Teresa. The joy on his face said everything to her.
The Lesson: Saying no to another’s offer denies them the joy of giving. Accepting what they wish to give–even if you don’t need it–is what practising true generosity is about.

Customer Reviews:
Who is the Right Author?.......2000-08-19
My name is Carlton Jackson and I am the author of "Hounds of the Road," published in the early 80s by Popular Press of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and Kendall/Hunt in Iowa. I have no idea whatever of why this book is being listed as authored by "Pat J.BGU." When the book was first published Kendall/Hunt listed it as R. Browne (who was at that time the director of Popular Press). I thought I had corrected the problem. The book deals with the Greyhound bus company, and I am presently writing a new introduction and a new final chapter for a revised edition of this book. It will be out in early January 2000l. For anyone out there wondering about this matter, I am Carlton Jackson of Western KY University, and I AM THE AUTHOR of Hounds of the Road. I will now take steps to get this matter cleared up. Cheers, Carlton Jackson
