From the supplier: Interest and research in business communication in Japan was encouraged in the early part of the 1900s by the work of the Japan Business English Assn (JBEA) starting in 1934 and the institution of the Official Examinations of Business English started in 1956. English was already the dominant language of trade in Japan even in the 1930s and the dedicated research and scholarly contributions of the JBEA were to lead to the sponsorship of a nationwide Official Examinations on Business English in 1980.

Book Description
What do real people around the world actually say when they meet for business purposes? This book explores how people around the world, speaking different languages, accomplish business. It explores the cultural assumptions underlying a variety of task-oriented verbal interactions - from a simple book purchase to a complex bargaining session. The languages covered include varieties of English (British, American and Australian) used in inter-cultural settings - such as American and Japanese, or Australian and Korean/Vietnamese Japanese - and other languages such as German, Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese as used in intra-cultural situations.

Book Description
This book examines writings on multilateralism -- many sided institutional and organizing international relations. Drawing comparisons across cultures, it demonstrates how far-flung observers enrich understanding by regarding multilateralism from vantage points unlike those which underlie the dominant American literature. Authors illustrate how political, economic and other conditions influence the concerns animating works under scrutiny, thereby elucidating the uses of theorizing.

From the supplier: Business communication research is flourishing in New Zealand and progressing somewhat more erratically in Australia. Scholars in both nations are investing both their energy and commitment into an evolving discipline with two exceptions. These are the research done in Australia on plain English that is respected by plain English supporters throughout the English-speaking world, and the work done on form design and visual communication in that country.

Solid general guide.......2000-12-07
If you're reading this review, you probably have decent access to the Internet. That's an obvious prerequisite to finding this book useful. But it isn't just a list of Web sites. It's a comprehensive guide to using the Internet as a job-hunting tool.
I've found other Complete Idiot's Guides to be concise and practical introductions to their subject. This was no exception.

Book Description
If you can take only one lesson away from this book, let it be this: The only person you can depend on to take care of you financially is...you!!!
Successful businesswoman Georgette Mosbacher learned this lesson the hard way. Rich and socially prominent now, this smart, ambitious woman grew up in poverty, helping to raise her three younger siblings while her grandmother and mother worked to keep the family afloat after her father's death. As an adult, divorces from two powerful men left her financially and emotionally bereft, while a split from the former Cabinet Secretary Robert Mosbacher rocked her world yet again. Georgette's eventual triumph over these deeply painful experiences taught her, at her very core, that women cannot depend on anyone but themselves for their financial and emotional well-being. She learned the critical role that money plays in every woman's ability to achieve her goals. And she learned many specific yet simple strategies to ensure her won financial security and, beyond that, to accumulate real wealth--the kind of wealth that ultimately enabled her to make her loftiest dreams come true.
Now, Georgette shares the secrets of her financial success and emotional triumphs with you. Whether you're starting your first job or entering your golden years, whether you're married, single, widowed, or divorced, whether you're living on a modest income or earning a bundle, Georgette's simple step-by-step plan for economic independence will give you the tools you need to take control of your money and make your own financial dreams come true.
As down-to-earth and outspoken as Georgette is herself, It Takes Money, Honey is a truly comprehensive money guide, covering all aspects of a woman's financial life. Sharing examples from her own experiences, along with those of a diverse group of women, Georgette offers sound, straightforward strategies to help you live within your means, build your savings, invest for the future and achieve your financial goals. She shows how to create a financial safety net so you will never be caught short in a crisis, from the loss of your job to the loss of your husband. You'll learn about ways you can maximize your earnings and minimize your debts. And you will learn how to overcome the emotional hurdles that prevent us from making the most of our money as well as how to develop the attitude and style that are essential to achieving your goals in life.
Among the specific issues she addresses:
How to break the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle
How to get out of debt, and stay out of debt for good
How to easily build a fully diversified easy-to-understand investment portfolio with as little as $100
How to make sure you're paid what you're worth
How to make a success of your own business
How to ensure financial fairness in your relationship with men
And why it's critical for every woman to build a secret stash of cash that only she knows about
But It Takes Money, Honey is about a lot more than just ensuring financial security. It is, in fact, a guide to realizing all of your goals, a realistic and pragmatic manual that will show you how to live the kind of life you dream about. Not the kind of life your parents wanted for you, not the kind of life that your husband or boyfriend wants, not the kind of life that your friends hope to lead, but your own, very personal vision of what will bring you happiness and fulfillment. Because, as Georgette says, "Life shouldn't only be about being safe. Financial security is crucial but it's not enough. You should always, always be reaching for more."
In It Takes Money, Honey, Georgette tells you exactly how to get it. The rest is up to you.
Customer Reviews:
Very useful advice.......2004-04-28
I found this book very useful from a professional standpoint: I am a divorce lawyer whose clients are mostly women. I am always surprised to find how many women, in this day and age, still depend on men for their financial security. I have met so many women who are divorcing (or being divorced) and have absolutely no idea how much their husband earns, whether he has any savings, investments or other assets, where he does his banking, and so on. Furthermore, they have no savings of their own. As you can imagine, this puts them at a tremendous advantage. Georgette's advice is very basis - too basic for women who are already financially savvy - but most women would benefit from reading this book and applying its principles.
Hits and Misses.......2003-03-08
This book is best when Georgettte is describing her own personal experiences and triumphes over difficult circumstances. At those times, I am inspired by her determination and encouraged to keep strong in my own struggles. But her much discussed separation and divorce cracked her wide open. Lots of her deeply held beliefs do tumble out here and there. Despite all of her experience, she really seems to think it takes a man to be complete. It's just an overall impression I get from the book. (Honey you are successful now) And the advice on investing sounds pretty funny (written before the market went bust) now that we're all losing all those unrealized capital gains that intoxicated everyone over the last decade. It was hard for me to figure out what the book was supposeed to be? A pep-talk? Financial advice? Well, it was probably healing for her to write. I do empathize with her pain over her divorce.
Georgette is an admirable woman and I like her; won't stop liking her. But the book's not that great.
And to think this was a FLUFF book........2002-07-04
Wow, I am very impressed with this book! I've seen this book in the bookstore on various occasions, but I didn't purchase it because I thought it was a bunch of fluff and no substance. Well, my curiousity got the better of me and I just had to read it. After several pages, I had to stop reading it....because the information hit me square in the head and I had to get a notebook to jot the information down! You see, I have a demanding career, and I'm starting a business of my own. Despite that, I was depending on man to secure my future. Thank Goodness for Georgette's advice "wake up" is perfect for what I need in my life. I sure wish my mom had read it before my dad passed away. My mom fell victim to a lot of stuff that was addressed in the book...but she didn't know any alternative. I didn't either, and I would've made the same mistakes. Georgette is like the friend who tells you what you need to hear, whether you WANT to hear it or not. I will be buying several copies for friends/family for sure. I hope to meet Georgette one day and thank her for kicking my [rear end] into the right direction. Maybe it'll be on a plane in the first-class section!
Common sense approach to money for women........1999-08-22
This is the first financial planning book any woman should read. Ms. Mosbacher gives simple and specific advice on how to get started planning your financial future. The reader should keep in mind, however, that Ms. Mosbacher believes that money is the most important thing in the world. As long as one doesn't lose perspective, the guidelines in this book are very helpful.
The Unsinkable Georgette Does It Again!.......1999-07-20
Georgette Mosbacher is a real inspiration. Despite the naysayers who won't acknowlegde her achievements due to her marriages to high-profile, high-finance husbands, one only has to read this book and her last ("Feminine Force") to realize that this lady knows what she's talking about. "Money, Honey" it very practical (none of this visualizing mumbo jumbo ala Suze Orman) and covers the basics of managing money very well. No, it's not an academic financial analysis, but the fact is the basic financial skills she writes about are, unfortunately, concepts many women have no clue about implementing in their lives. Too many have the idea that money is some mystery, like fate or luck, that either you have or you don't. Georgette empowers the reader by saying "You may not have it yet, but I'll show you how you can get it." Georgette is to be commended for writing a book that will help a lot of people take money seriously and improve their well-bing as a result. On a personal note, I was sorry to read in the book that Robert Mosbacher walked away from this very intelligent, beautiful, elegant woman. His loss! Best wishes for future happiness, Georgette. You deserve it.

Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Guide for Women and Money.......2001-11-29
When Dee Lee first told me whe was writing a book about money for women, I admit I was skeptical. I know that Dee is among the best at financial education. I also know, from reading her other books, that she is an excellent writer. My skepticism was not her ability, but the topic. I was not sure, given the large number of books on money and financial planning, that there was anything new to be said. I was wrong.
I picked up a copy of this book planning only to skim through it. I found myself reading it. Of course, I had to ask myself why? The answer is in the title "women". This book talks to us as women. It's not just about money: it's about our fears. As women, we have many emotions about money that often keep us from looking hard and carefully at our finances. This book deals with the obstacles we place in the way of our financial freedom and then proceeds to tell us how to overcome these obstacles. Dee Lee deals with why we often do not address such a fundamental topic as our money. She then offers solutions. This is a woman's perspective on money -and having worked with clients for many years as a financial planner, we do have a different perspective then men. This difference is recognized and dealt with in the book. I highly recommend this book for all women. You may think you do not have to be concerned ever with handling your finances. This is a common response of women. Yet, as page five says "Ninety percent of women become wholly responsible for their finances at some point in their lifetime". This is you. This book is for you.
Advice You Can Use.......2001-09-01
Believe it or not, my bank advisor suggested this book - after my umpteenth phone call asking her advice about various financial problems I was having. And now this book has become my new bible of advice ! I could not believe how much I learned in such a short time - and how easy the book made it seem. There was something in just about every chapter that applied to me, my life, my finances,my future - you name it. Highly, highly recommended. If, like me, you thought Dow Jones was the designer who made those great wool slacks ( that's Jones NY !) it's time to buy this book - it's the best money you're going to spend all year.

Changed my life, kept me solvent.......2005-11-22
I can count on one hand the number of books I've come across that have changed my life. This is one such book. I read this book shortly after graduating from college with a liberal arts degree. Needless to say, I knew nothing about money and was starting out with poor money habits and little respect for budgets, savings or my parents money. This book drove home the importance of saving, compounding and what a waste it is to roll over monthly balances on credit cards. From that point on I started paying myself first, paid off the credit cards and never again ran a balance on a credit card. I paid my dad back every cent I had borrowed from him even though I'm sure he never expected to see it again. And now I have a very high credit score. I really believe I owe it all to this book. I think it's the perfect first book to give a young novice just starting out in money management.

Journal of faith.......2007-07-28
A poignant and touching story woven together from journals and notes. It speaks of true Christian faith, love of family and sacrifice for others. It is rich in desription and brings back many memories of living in a small town and attending a local Methodist church.
An Inspirational Journal.......2007-07-02
Shadow Dawn is a one-year diary/journal kept by a pioneer "steel magnolia" during the mid-thirties. Mary Adelaide Webb and her Methodist minister husband, Doctor Webb, take the reader on a journey of faith of the shadows before miracle drugs or bypass surgery as well as the joys of their "holy vow" kept throughout a forty-year Christian marriage. The reader is swept up in the optimism Mrs. Webb exhibits even under dire circumstances and the grace she imparts through her thoughts and actions. Hope for a Better Tomorrow.......2007-06-24
This book offers the reader hope, understanding, and how the Robertson's faith saw them through so many hardships. The Robertson's suffered pain, sorrow, and adversity, but their steadfast love and abiding faith in the Lord always prevailed throughout the turmoil in their lives. Even though it was a simpler era of time, the hardships that they endured then is still prevelent today. I would strongly suggest that anyone suffering these adversities to read this book in order to gain a stronger appreciation for what we have and to gain faith and understanding for tomorrow.
AN EXCELLENT READ.......2007-06-16
This is a truly inspirational book and extremely well written. It focuses on the life of two people after the Civil War and the struggles they endured and gives the reader hope and encouragement for a better tomorrow in the world we live. Those principles applied at that time as well as today. The book is a comfort to the hurting in today's world.

Great book, but out-of-date.......2007-05-28
I actually worked with Alex Bove on updating a book on estate planning, when I practiced law in Boston many years ago. I purchased this book back in 1996 (the date of the current edition), but since then the laws have changed several times, most notably in February 2006, with the enactment of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. As a result of those changes, many of the examples and planning suggestions discussed in Bove's book no longer work. For example, all rules relating to gifting, penalty periods, look-back periods, "half-a-loaf" planning, and annuities, have been radically changed. Do not rely on the examples in the book!
That being said, his material on durable powers of attorney, trusts (other than the Convertible Trust, which no longer works), gift taxes, general eligibility requirements, and ethics of Medicaid planning, is still worth reading.
For an example of a book that incorporates all the latest changes in the law, together with case studies and numerous cutting edge planning ideas, take a look at How to Protect Your Family's Assets from Devastating Nursing Home Costs: Medicaid Secrets. It's pricey, but well worth it when you consider all the information and ideas packed into it!
Woefully out of date........2007-04-28
While I own this book (I bought it ten years ago) it is now very much out-of-date. The law of Medicaid is one that is constantly in flux, changing just about every year. Recent changes to Medicaid law have made every book on the subject of Medicaid published before January 2007 obsolete. While this book and its author, Mr. Bove provided a great overview of the Medicaid planning process and for many years was the go to book to learn about Medicaid and the nursing home, today it is woefully out-of-date. For an example of an up-to-date book with information for all 50 states see: The Medicaid Handbook 2007
Not Topical.......2006-11-11
The book fairly explains the complexities of Medicare. However, many changes have been made in Medicare since the date this publication was printed. The book should be updated to reflect the recent changes.
Worthless after Feb 8, 2006.......2006-08-24
Dear Worried Reader,
On February 8, 2006, President Bush signed a law called the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. This law makes sweeping changes to the ability of seniors to transfer (gift) any assets to their children and grandchildren. Following the advice of any book written before that date can cause a catastrophic loss of Medicaid privileges when a senior citizen is most vulnerable..when they actually enter a nursing home. Do not use this book as a reliable guide to current law. elder law attorney Chicago, IL
Thanks to Mr. Bove.......2005-09-21
The information in this book is easy to understand and extremely valuable. It saved my family thousands of dollars by helping me get Medicaid for my father.
