Reader of "Best Books".......2000-12-09
This book deserves close attention from Amazon customers. It will influence other writers. I would not be surprised to see the concepts in this book "stolen" and republished under someone else's name. It is a real lead idea book showing people what to do about their work life and personal life. It is a perfect book for the "work/life" balance issue and suggests how to do your best to make a difference for yourself and those around you.
I am surprised that some publisher has not picked this book up and published it. It is a good read that suffers only from being a "self published" book. Not a "vanity book", but a great book this author decided to publish himself.
I recommend it highly. Good gift for someone who is wandering on "the wrong path" and needs a correction.

Wonderful book for the disillusioned cube dweller........2000-08-27
Seaman wrote an excellent summary of the crazy and illogical business world. He's not an apologist for CEOs at all. This book was written for someone who really wants something out of life besides collecting social security after 45 miserable years in the corporate world.
He encourages his readers to find the "it" in their lives - doing what they were meant to do [e.g., Tiger Woods' "it" is golfing]. Even if you never find your "it", you can be happier at work and find more fulfillment either in the same place or a new place by figuring out what your purpose is.
The book is somewhat superficial (not much depth, but covers an amazing amount of material). This insight is meant to be a compliment, because the book accomplishes exactly what Seaman wanted it to in a masterful way. It has the occasional humorous story or joke, but is also very serious. College kids probably wouldn't get much out of it, because they haven't lived long enough, and baby boomers probably wouldn't get much out of it either, because they've been working too long. I happened to read it at the perfect time, so if you're at the start of some career, especially one that you don't really want to stay in, then it's a must read.
Well written, timely (in this age of job cutting and downsizing), no need for a Wharton MBA to understand the book. Thanks, Rick!
Sincerely, econ
This is no popcorn book.......2000-03-27
No three easy steps to the miracle job like most of those popcorn books that are such a waste of time. This is "real" insight into the working world, how the game works and why it works the way it does. I can relate to this book. The Path was straight forward, logical, and helpful as it guided me through the steps to finally learn how to look for a job that is right for me. I feel I finally have some practical help and direction to do it right this time. The book is not a hard read, the author did the hard work for me - and it's funny.
Get out of the weeds and onto The Path.......2000-03-23
No matter how fast you run, you won't get where you want to go if you're running in the wrong direction. Rick Seaman's 'Job Loop' in The Path highlighted my own history of conflict between my inner compass (my 'it') and my external work environment. This conflict creates an unnecessary waste of mental energy that saps job performance and personal happiness. This book's clear description of the real dynamics inside organizations is a crucial step in resolving the conflict.

The definitive book in its field for more than twenty-five years, Global Trade Financing (formerly titled Export-Import Financing) provides global traders, U.S. and foreign bankers, and students of global commerce with a complete and in-depth guide to every aspect of global trade financ- ing. Written by experts in the field, this book begins with an overview of the most important organizations that make contributions to the financing of trade and related services. The authors trace past and present trends in world trade and investment flows while evaluating the impact that these have on financial institutions and vehicles. Detailed descriptions are also provided on the services of commercial banks as well as the key private nonbank institutions that may be of financial assistance to exporters and importers. In Part 2, the steps involved with executing a transaction are spelled out along with the rights and responsibilities of the various parties involved. The general types of sales contracts and their major provisions are discussed with helpful tips to prevent any misunderstanding and conflict between the parties. And to reduce the risk of financial loss, hedging techniques for foreign exchange and ocean marine insurance are thoroughly covered.
Specific techniques and vehicles of unsecured and secured lending are introduced in Part 3. This section also shows how to use Eurocurrency to finance international trade and investment. And the authors explain how the various types of letters of credit can be used as financing tools.
Clearly written and easy to use, Global Trade Financing contains all the information you'll need to keep pace with the ever-changing nature of international finance.
Packed with invaluable information on how transactions are executed, the effects of recent legislation, and new financing techniques, Global Trade Financing (formerly titled Export-Import Financing) is certain to remain the key resource in the field. It also features a wide range of topics, from foreign trade definitions, bank guarantees, and risk management, to shipping and collection, and the latest legislation.
Written and organized for maximum clarity and accessibility, this comprehensive volume includes:
* The roles of commercial banks, private institutions, and governments in export-import financing, and how they interact

Book Description
Executive decision makers are coming to understand that strategic management, national government policies, and the international public sector are all related, often in subtle ways. Foreign markets now have even more influence on corporate performance. Dr. Beenhakker familiarizes readers with a multifaceted approach to decision making in an international context, focusing on the interactions between the private and public sectors. In doing this he shows how macroeconomic issues affect the global economy, specifically their impact on international financing. Though drawing upon a wide range of sources in economics, finance, accounting, and statistics, among other fields, this work requires no special grounding in any of these fields to be read, grasped, and applied. Dr. Beenhakker's analytical techniques help translate the often vague rules of thumb used by international finance executives into specific decision making criteria. With numerous examples and illustrations, plus a clearly defined conceptual framework to analyze, predict, and respond to changes in the financial environment and world trade, Dr. Beenhakker's book is an essential resource for executive-level decision makers throughout today's globalizing organizations.

How can the security of international trade be financed in developing countries? A global public good Approach [An article from: World Development]

Manufacturer: Elsevier

Book Description

Description:
The aim of this article is to identify the modalities of financing international trade security. Our analysis is more specifically oriented toward the issue of financing developing countries, which must make a considerable effort to attain the required level, whereas the developed countries have already invested heavily in trade security since the events of September 11, 2001. First, we characterize security in the context of a global public good before studying the financing conditions and the discriminating criteria of the supply of the global public good security. We then present a critical analysis of the various possible sources and instruments for financing the global public good security and propose different financing scenarios, each one based on a specific allocation of responsibilities among the actors in security. We conclude by considering the role of the international institutions as managers of the financing and implementation of the security of international trade.

Entrepreneur's Notebook propels you on a whirlwind tour of the start-up process. It is an invaluable reference for new and experienced entrepreneurs that includes chapters on a wide range of topics, from entrepreneurial team building to business plans to financing. This excellent book provides an incredible amount of practical information that will help you make smarter decisions and avoid costly mistakes. The author, Steven K. Gold, is an accomplished entrepreneur who has co-founded and led five early-stage ventures. As an investor and mentor, he also advises many entrepreneurs and young companies. He earned his B.S.E. in Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and his M.D. from Brown University Medical School.
Customer Reviews:
Nice Guide for Beginners.......2007-06-16
The author writes a nice overview of the entrepreneurial process. It's basically for novices but it does a good job for this audience. The only problem I have with this book is that it is too basic and is therefore non-unique because it is so low-level. Regardless, I must say that for the right audience, it does a fine job over giving the big picture.
If you are advanced or aspire to become advanced, I would recommend "The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs" but only for high-tech entrepreneurs. Even this author has recommended it.
A Must-Have for Entrepreneurs.......2007-05-14
Steven gives great illustrations to drive home his insightful advice for entrepreneurs. As he's "been there, done that," we can take his advice to heart in the hopes of becoming a success like him!
Exellent Book.......2007-05-11
Great book for getting ready to open a new business. Would refer to anyone thinking about opening a business.
Brief and to the point.......2007-04-27
This is a delightful little book that contains a wealth of useful and helpful information and ideas on starting a small business and ensuring that it is viable and succesful. The book is well written and easy to follow and interesting to read.
This is a must read for entrepreneurs, particularly budding ones as the information the book provides is very practical and can help you avoid making costly errors. The book covers a wide range of topics including the start-up process, marketing the business on a small budget, cash-flow forecasting, among other things.
The book is an excellent companion for the entrepreneur that is well worth having.
Invaluable advice for the budding entrepreneur.......2007-03-04
This book does a terrific job of presenting some of the most important issues entrepreneurs face when embarking on new ventures, touching on topics such as the business plan, funding, team building, and cash flows. Using simple, yet stunningly accurate models of the entrepreneurial process, Steven Gold distills complex subjects into simple, practical, take-away messages. The classification of entrepreneurial personalities (professionals, pragmatists, and inventors) is something I think we can all relate to. I find the metaphor which compares building a new company to making "stone soup" equally compelling. There are countless books out there for budding entrepreneurs, but this one is no fluff. It gets right down to the nuts and bolts so you can concentrate on your business.

Customer Reviews:
Not Bad.......2000-04-25
May be too detailed for normal attorneys. Good use of real world examples but goes too quickly into higher level discussions. Could use a chapter or two on the fundamentals. Would recommend for beginning finance attorneys or "deal makers".

This book includes excerpted cases and other materials that illustrates the applicability of the economic principles to legal disputes and public policy issues. Fundamental principles are introduced in the first four chapters. Subsequent chapters build on these fundamentals by adding a detailed and sophisticated analysis in the general areas of monopoly, externalities, information, labor markets, risk, organizational economics, and financial economics. The result is a thorough introduction to the principles of microeconomics.

From the author: This is one of a trio of papers intended to highlight the potential gains from increased collaboration between the economists, lawyers and accountants in the tax policy community. In particular, this paper provides the view of an economist serving as a revenue estimator. In that role, five important issues/concepts are described to aid lawyers and accountants to understand how economists go about analyzing tax policy issues.
