5 out of 5 stars Reader of "Best Books".......2000-12-09

This book deserves close attention from Amazon customers. It will influence other writers. I would not be surprised to see the concepts in this book "stolen" and republished under someone else's name. It is a real lead idea book showing people what to do about their work life and personal life. It is a perfect book for the "work/life" balance issue and suggests how to do your best to make a difference for yourself and those around you.

I am surprised that some publisher has not picked this book up and published it. It is a good read that suffers only from being a "self published" book. Not a "vanity book", but a great book this author decided to publish himself.

I recommend it highly. Good gift for someone who is wandering on "the wrong path" and needs a correction.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for the disillusioned cube dweller........2000-08-27

Seaman wrote an excellent summary of the crazy and illogical business world. He's not an apologist for CEOs at all. This book was written for someone who really wants something out of life besides collecting social security after 45 miserable years in the corporate world.

He encourages his readers to find the "it" in their lives - doing what they were meant to do [e.g., Tiger Woods' "it" is golfing]. Even if you never find your "it", you can be happier at work and find more fulfillment either in the same place or a new place by figuring out what your purpose is.

The book is somewhat superficial (not much depth, but covers an amazing amount of material). This insight is meant to be a compliment, because the book accomplishes exactly what Seaman wanted it to in a masterful way. It has the occasional humorous story or joke, but is also very serious. College kids probably wouldn't get much out of it, because they haven't lived long enough, and baby boomers probably wouldn't get much out of it either, because they've been working too long. I happened to read it at the perfect time, so if you're at the start of some career, especially one that you don't really want to stay in, then it's a must read.

Well written, timely (in this age of job cutting and downsizing), no need for a Wharton MBA to understand the book. Thanks, Rick!

Sincerely, econ

5 out of 5 stars This is no popcorn book.......2000-03-27

No three easy steps to the miracle job like most of those popcorn books that are such a waste of time. This is "real" insight into the working world, how the game works and why it works the way it does. I can relate to this book. The Path was straight forward, logical, and helpful as it guided me through the steps to finally learn how to look for a job that is right for me. I feel I finally have some practical help and direction to do it right this time. The book is not a hard read, the author did the hard work for me - and it's funny.

5 out of 5 stars Get out of the weeds and onto The Path.......2000-03-23

No matter how fast you run, you won't get where you want to go if you're running in the wrong direction. Rick Seaman's 'Job Loop' in The Path highlighted my own history of conflict between my inner compass (my 'it') and my external work environment. This conflict creates an unnecessary waste of mental energy that saps job performance and personal happiness. This book's clear description of the real dynamics inside organizations is a crucial step in resolving the conflict.

        Book Description

Executive decision makers are coming to understand that strategic management, national government policies, and the international public sector are all related, often in subtle ways. Foreign markets now have even more influence on corporate performance. Dr. Beenhakker familiarizes readers with a multifaceted approach to decision making in an international context, focusing on the interactions between the private and public sectors. In doing this he shows how macroeconomic issues affect the global economy, specifically their impact on international financing. Though drawing upon a wide range of sources in economics, finance, accounting, and statistics, among other fields, this work requires no special grounding in any of these fields to be read, grasped, and applied. Dr. Beenhakker's analytical techniques help translate the often vague rules of thumb used by international finance executives into specific decision making criteria. With numerous examples and illustrations, plus a clearly defined conceptual framework to analyze, predict, and respond to changes in the financial environment and world trade, Dr. Beenhakker's book is an essential resource for executive-level decision makers throughout today's globalizing organizations.

                Description:
The aim of this article is to identify the modalities of financing international trade security. Our analysis is more specifically oriented toward the issue of financing developing countries, which must make a considerable effort to attain the required level, whereas the developed countries have already invested heavily in trade security since the events of September 11, 2001. First, we characterize security in the context of a global public good before studying the financing conditions and the discriminating criteria of the supply of the global public good security. We then present a critical analysis of the various possible sources and instruments for financing the global public good security and propose different financing scenarios, each one based on a specific allocation of responsibilities among the actors in security. We conclude by considering the role of the international institutions as managers of the financing and implementation of the security of international trade.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Guide for Beginners.......2007-06-16

The author writes a nice overview of the entrepreneurial process. It's basically for novices but it does a good job for this audience. The only problem I have with this book is that it is too basic and is therefore non-unique because it is so low-level. Regardless, I must say that for the right audience, it does a fine job over giving the big picture.

If you are advanced or aspire to become advanced, I would recommend "The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs" but only for high-tech entrepreneurs. Even this author has recommended it.

                      5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Entrepreneurs.......2007-05-14

Steven gives great illustrations to drive home his insightful advice for entrepreneurs. As he's "been there, done that," we can take his advice to heart in the hopes of becoming a success like him!

                      5 out of 5 stars Exellent Book.......2007-05-11

Great book for getting ready to open a new business. Would refer to anyone thinking about opening a business.

5 out of 5 stars Brief and to the point.......2007-04-27

This is a delightful little book that contains a wealth of useful and helpful information and ideas on starting a small business and ensuring that it is viable and succesful. The book is well written and easy to follow and interesting to read.

This is a must read for entrepreneurs, particularly budding ones as the information the book provides is very practical and can help you avoid making costly errors. The book covers a wide range of topics including the start-up process, marketing the business on a small budget, cash-flow forecasting, among other things.

The book is an excellent companion for the entrepreneur that is well worth having.

5 out of 5 stars Invaluable advice for the budding entrepreneur.......2007-03-04

This book does a terrific job of presenting some of the most important issues entrepreneurs face when embarking on new ventures, touching on topics such as the business plan, funding, team building, and cash flows. Using simple, yet stunningly accurate models of the entrepreneurial process, Steven Gold distills complex subjects into simple, practical, take-away messages. The classification of entrepreneurial personalities (professionals, pragmatists, and inventors) is something I think we can all relate to. I find the metaphor which compares building a new company to making "stone soup" equally compelling. There are countless books out there for budding entrepreneurs, but this one is no fluff. It gets right down to the nuts and bolts so you can concentrate on your business.

May be too detailed for normal attorneys. Good use of real world examples but goes too quickly into higher level discussions. Could use a chapter or two on the fundamentals. Would recommend for beginning finance attorneys or "deal makers".

                          Book Description

Economic Analysis for Lawyers presumes no prior training in economics and uses the same building block approach that is found in most microeconomics principles textbooks that are used in undergraduate economics classes. This book includes excerpted cases and other materials that illustrates the applicability of the economic principles to legal disputes and public policy issues. Fundamental principles are introduced in the first four chapters. Subsequent chapters build on these fundamentals by adding a detailed and sophisticated analysis in the general areas of monopoly, externalities, information, labor markets, risk, organizational economics, and financial economics. The result is a thorough introduction to the principles of microeconomics.

From the author: This is one of a trio of papers intended to highlight the potential gains from increased collaboration between the economists, lawyers and accountants in the tax policy community. In particular, this paper provides the view of an economist serving as a revenue estimator. In that role, five important issues/concepts are described to aid lawyers and accountants to understand how economists go about analyzing tax policy issues.
