5 out of 5 stars Time management from my car.......2006-03-30

What better way to learn about time management than during those otherwise unproductive drives to and from work? I appreciate the perspective from this CD. Catholicism is not just a chapter at the end of the book, but informing and interwoven throughout the sound principles and techniques taught by secular professionals in this industry. But, don't assume you can accomplish time management changes just by listening. You must still do some assignments at a desk (or kitchen table). Now if they could only include those appendix materials with the CD...

            5 out of 5 stars Well-written, in plain English.......2006-02-23

There is no magic pill or fix in Durand's book. It is the simple truth that we all know but fail to put into action.

5 out of 5 stars The secret to what makes good Catholic Families tick!.......2003-01-24

Wow! As a convert to Catholicism, I always was in awe at what made good Catholic families tick and how they managed to get everything done, have awesome kids, and seem very balanced. Here is the answer! This book is unlike any time management book you've ever read, and it is indeed distinctly Catholic and prayer centered. I would also recommend it for Protestants as the same principles could help them as well. The key is balance balance balance, prayer, and priorities. After trying this book out I found my time was actually increased and I got more done, and felt good about it too! We even have been successful in launching family prayer. Can't say enough. Buy the book!

5 out of 5 stars Reliable techniques for overcoming procrastination.......2002-11-05

Although written especially for Catholics and with a strong emphasis on the importance of keeping one's heart open to Christ, the useful physical and mental techniques in Time Management for Catholics are quite applicable to time-starved readers of all faiths and ecumenical backgrounds.

            3 out of 5 stars disappointed .......2007-09-19

I was disappointed in reading this book...actually I made it halfway through it and lost interest...I thought it would deal more practically with everyday decluttering..of course with spiritual overtones..but it didn't really hit upon the decluttering in full force..perhaps I'll read the 2nd half..perhaps not.

4 out of 5 stars Journey Out of Depression.......2007-04-30

In the year 2000, the author found herself alone and deeply depressed, her life "collapsing under the clutter." The self-help books she consulted were of some use, but missing the element of faith. Over time, with the help of friends, a spiritual director, and a Christian psychologist she was able to change her perspective about the meaning of life. In Make Room for God, Rowland shares the lessons she learned as God led her out of the clutter. "This book is a bit of bright orange paint pointing toward the path home," she writes.

She encourages us to approach the lessons as a journey, beginning with an overall read, then returning to topics of special interest, spending up to 40 days on each. She urges patience with self and God, making small changes, and celebrating accomplishments.

The book is formatted in nineteen chapters divided into five sections on getting rid of clutter in relation to (1) self-care, (2) our environment, (3) productivity, (4) our spirit, and (5) our relationship with God. Most chapters close with suggested activities. For example, Kicking the Worry Habit includes directions for making a "God jar" to hold little notes about worries we are handing over to God. The creativity exercise is a list of ten simple things we could do now to release more creativity in our lives. To get the juices flowing, Rowland provides a dozen or so ideas such as repotting a plant, writing a letter by hand, and making soup.

5 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable book.......2007-01-29

I enjoyed this book, and can recommend it with confidence knowing that others will enjoy it as well. It is easy to read, thought provoking, informative and interesting. The author uses humor in a clever way to help get her point across, yet the reader can tell without a doubt that the author is serious about her faith and anxious to share her ideas with others, without being "preachy". In these hectic and pressured times we live in, it is easy to forget what is really important when it comes right down to it. Susan K. Rowland does a wonderful job of teaching us how to re-focus and get back to a simpler, less cluttered way of life.
