I looked forward to receiving this book but was sorely disappointed with what it delivered. I've had the same thoughts on employee recognition forever. There were no new ideas and very little specifics on improving recognition.

It is set up in a format where you can have a daily reminder that employee recognition is good and that is the best part of the book.

Definitely not a must have but a decent addition for your bookshelf.

There are some surprising entries, like the one on February 11 where the authors show how you can reward failure and have a positive result. Just because someone failed, doesn't mean they didn't try or take great risks.

"People are afraid to risk in their jobs, primarily because of fear that failure will bring some sort of reprisal or ridicule. When this atmosphere is present, growth and innovation are stunted." ~February 11

Bosses sometimes overlook the power of a kind word or an expression of approval. But to an employee such an expression can mean everything. This book is filled with great daily tips to help bosses remember to recognize deserving employees. For an employee its the little things that keep you motivated. The practical concepts offered in this book simply make sense. On a business level, these real-life action items provide great ideas to truly motivate my employees. I have to believe that if company leaders would truly embrace these principles they would not only enjoy more passionate employees but they'd also enjoy the bottom line impact. On the personal side, I also appreciate the hints that translate into being a better husband and dad.

I have read this book twice, have given several copies as gifts, and hear myself quoting from it on occasion. It's amazing how the success stories of others can inspire us to realize our own dreams. This is a perfect gift for graduates, Mother's Day and Father's Day, and award presentations for any business-minded person. I especially like the practical lessons that Mr. Elliott draws from the real-life experiences of people like Walt Disney, Bill Gates, Andy Griffith, Mary Kay, and Martin Luther King, Jr. We all need heros and role models like these.

I highly recommend this very interesting book of stories of success and inspiration. There is a one-page story for each day of the year. These stories provide interesting facts about successful Americans as well as information on how they became successful. Each story ends with a comment concerning how it can be applied to your own life. It is a very good book!

Interesting, but other ways to do the same thing.......2007-03-27

This is like a day planner, except its use is limited to recording information about your daily rides, but one could also do that on a customized computer spreadsheet, and it would give you running mileage totals. It contains some interesting tips, but you could probably find most of those elsewhere. There are quotes on bicycling. Consider "Bicycling Magazine's 1,000 All-Time Best Tips" by Ben Hewitt.

1. Provides a brief overview of how toxicity occurs;

2. Gives new knowledge and insight into the toxic effect of even relatively low levels of exposure to various contaminants;

3. Provides practitioners or those interested in their health with information about symptoms and sources of toxic contamination, so they can help themselves and others live better with renewed health.

It has long been known external contaminations can upset our physical systems and create all manner of problems. Its easy to see the more obvious and extreme forms of toxicity, such as swallowing known poisons. Less obvious are the subtler effects of many manmade toxins, and the potential impact of various foods and other allergens on the human immune system. We see evidence of increasing toxicity in the mounting incidence of allergies, immune system disorders, birth defects and genetic mutation. A toxin acts as an irritant, and the immune system can only respond by attempting to isolate and/or destroy the toxin. Once this happens, the immune system has a file on that toxin and will automatically attack it once the presence of the particular toxin is detected. Sometimes the immune system is too weak to prevail against the toxin, and the body succumbs to illness or even death. In other circumstances, a given immune system may be stronger than the contaminant, yet still use up much of the bodys vitality in combating or avoiding the effects of a poison. In many cases, the immune system is compromised, even if no overt symptoms are detected. It doesnt take many such contaminations to have a lasting effect on the bodys overall health and vitality.

disorganised format.......2005-09-03

This format is very strained. For each day of the year, the book has some titbit on an event in gaming that happened on that day. Then, there is a lengthier article on an unrelated gaming topic.

Some people seem to like this format. I just find it disorganised. Have a gander at the contents. A hodge podge of 365 topics. Now granted the articles are decently written. And they do cover a wide range of issues. But, alright. If you like, there is an element of serendipity here. You can thumb through the book, looking for what catches your eye. I'd rather have a book that is easier to use.

This is a reprint of the 1951 edition of this manual. A newer edition exists! Don't be fooled into thinking that this is the newer edition (Citation: Soil Survey Division Staff. 1993. Soil survey manual. Soil Conservation Service. U.S. Department of Agriculture Handbook 18. [out of print]). Thought I'd trully scored on this being a reprint of the 1993 edition and it is NOT.
