Asperger Syndrome and Adolescence: Helping Preteens & Teens Get Ready for the Real World
Teresa Bolick Manufacturer: Fair Winds Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
Accessories: ASIN: 1931412413 |
Book Description
Sex. Slang. Slumber parties. The preoccupations of adolescents with Asperger Syndrome are no different than those of other teens, but they can be much more confusing. The lack of social skills and ability to grasp conversational nuances that characterize AS make adolescence the most difficult life stage.`Why can I swear in front of my friends, but not in front of the teacher?'
`Why do I have to pay attention when I'm not interested in what my friend is saying?'
`What does it mean to `go out' with somebody?'
Asperger Syndrome is characterized by a reliance on clear guidelines, and in adolescence the social guidelines become murky and confusing. In Asperger Syndrome and Adolescence, child psychologist Teresa Bolick presents strategies for helping the ten to eighteen-year-old achieve happiness and success by maximizing the benefits of AS and minimizing the drawbacks.
You'll Learn:
-How to work with the school to help the AS child learn and succeed.
-Strategies for turning common AS traits like preoccupations and routines into positive strengths.
-How to help the AS teen learn to manage unforeseen glitches with grace.
-The best ways to talk to your teen about friendship, love, romance, and sex.
Along the way, you'll be inspired by success stories of dozens of AS teens. With the help of this book, you'll learn that it is possible for an adolescent with Asperger Syndrome to achieve unimaginable success.

Book Description
Are your children becoming adults, or just adult-aged children? Jim Hancock takes a straight-forward look at the mindset of today's generations and their different life perspectives. He challenges assumptions and creates common ground to allow parents to train their children to accept responsibility and gain an adult perspective on life. RAISING ADULTS includes a thirty day guarantee that parents can change their relationship with their child by doing "nothing"--in other words, by not practicing certain toxic behaviors over thirty days. Jim also addresses ten distinctives he believes ring true for youth in today's culture including a sense of isolation, anger, and hopelessness. As a former youth worker, Hancock writes on a down-to-earth, relational level.Customer Reviews:

Ready for the Real World (Wadsworth College Success)
William C. Hartel , and Stephen W. Schwartz Manufacturer: Wadsworth Publishing Company ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0534177123 |
Book Description
This text responds to the need increasingly felt by colleges and universities to be more accountable for how well they prepare students to meet the challenges of life and the world of work after graduation. Deans realize their school will attract more students if they can make stronger claims about the preparation their school gives. The big issue until now has been the lack of an available model and teaching materials for programs which want to offer a more practical transition course. This text provides the model.Customer Reviews:
Grauate Tool.......2000-05-10
Written in an easy-to-read style, READY FOR THE REAL WORLD covers most of the elements that college seniors must consider from the more practical aspect of the budgeting of finances to the often neglected consideration of psychological changes that take place as one goes from the rather protected status of a student to that as a job applicant and employee.
This book is an excellent one for college classes which are offered at the end of the senior year to help prepare students for life after college, but would also be helpful to individuals who are seriously thinking about the transition from college to the "real world."
The book includes checklists and activities that allow readers to assess their status financially, psychologically, and personally. I highly recommend this book.

A very nice first study !.......2001-01-16
In an attempt to find answers, the authors examined both the working of financial markets (established and emerging) and the roles of different key players in the financial community.
The findings are mixed but overall encouraging. For each player the present situation is explained in detail, showing clearly the limitations, the potential risks and potentials each player has related to creating sustainable development.
Overall a difficult topic in which the authors did very well to give a detailed present situation. Highly recommended as a first but good introduction to this topic.
Contents : I The Game 1. Eco-efficiency and the Financial Markets 2. Financial Markets and the Development Process II The Players (includes recommendations for each player) 3. The Company Leaders 4. The Investors and Analysts 5. The Bankers 6. The Insurers 7. The Accountants 8. The Raters III The Scorecard Appendix : Statement by Banks on the Environment and Sustainable Development
This work is linked with The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (wbcsd).

Police Organization and Management: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
M. L. Dantzker Manufacturer: Butterworth-Heinemann ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0750671017 |
Book Description
This textbook will teach students in criminal justice programs the essential skills needed for effective police administration and management. Although it is written in a manner that graduate students would find stimulating and thought- provoking, its target audience is juniors and seniors. The author uses a three-pronged approach. Each topic is explored from a traditional, modern, and futuristic perspective. This approach combines theory and practical application in a manner that helps the students grasp all the ramifications of the issues at hand. To assist in this, commentary solicited from police administrators (from middle-management to police chief) that reflects their experiences and thoughts on the various issues is offered. In addition to the commentary, realistic and pragmatic examples are provided to clarify the concept and to show its practical applications.
