Book Description
In the three seconds it takes you to walk through a door and extend your hand to someone for the first time, that person has already made irreversible judgments about you. You send out hundreds of signals about yourself, and people read those signals and react to them long before you've had a chance to say or do anything of substance.
Camille Lavington is a communications consultant who commands substantial fees for teaching personal marketing to business people from corporate executives to mid-level managers. In You've Only Got Three Seconds, she shares her strategies for defining your personal career goals, taking inventory of your strengths and vulnerabilities, and determining what you must do, say, and wear in order to fit the role you want to fulfill.
Personal marketing isn't about social cimbing or trying to be someone you're not. Success at the end of the millennium comes to people who are versatile, who can make positive impressions in any group, who can peg their peers' or superiors' secret agendas, and use psychodynamics to get what they want. With this book, people from entry-level job applicants to stymied executives will be ready to take their internal and external makeovers into the world, make a smashing first impression, and follow through with finesse.
Customer Reviews:
A MUST READ for anyone desiring to get ahead in life!!! .......2007-01-04
This book is a fascinating and very accessible guide to self packaging, covering far more than just manners and appearance. Authored by Camille Lavington, a brilliant, dynamic, witty former corporate executive and socialite, this impressive book shares her saavy and secrets about breaking into and rising in the business and social scene. She's been there, done it, and risen to the heights of the corporate, business and society worlds, and generously shares many of her secrets and lessons. A delightful "must read" for anyone seeking business, social or person success!!!
Rapport building.......2007-01-04
Great book for demonstrating rapport building importance and how it can easily be done.
Don't Waste Your Time.......2006-08-01
Frankly, this book is barely worth the paper it's printed on. It's full of "social climbing" truisms that should be obvious to anyone with a pulse. Very little of the book is actually devoted to first impressions, which is what the title suggests.
The only remotely useful part of the book is a couple pages describing the relationships between economic advancement and social advancement. Don't waste your time.
Looking for simliar book.......2005-12-28
I found this book while trying to find a book I first heard about in the early 80's. I believe the title was something like "Contact: The First Three Seconds". I'm hoping someone will read this and assist me with the actual title and/or Author of the book.
What Impression Do You Make?.......2005-12-22
Anyone looking for a job needs to prepare beyond typing up a resume. Read this book. It helps you to see yourself as others see you. Run through the checklist for grooming, presentation and body language to tune up your "impression makers."
The boss is looking for someone with energy, enthusiasm, job skills, and who fits with the current team. Far too many candidates have no idea of the image they project. Slumped in a chair while mumbling answers is not likely to impress an employer.

received an old edition - very disappointed.......2007-05-21
I'm very disappointed with my order with Amazon. Two co-workers and I all ordered from Amazon and we all got different editions of this textbook; none of them being the most recent. I am going to send mine back.
Full of information but dense.......2007-05-09
I received this book in the high hopes of having everything explained to me in clear English. For the most part, my expectations were met. The downside is that the reading is quite dense in most parts. In addition, being a Tax Professional, I found a few, minor errors in the Tax Planning section. Otherwise, the book has been a tremendous help in my studies to become a CFP(R).
CFP Course 1.......2007-03-24
Good book to form the foundation for the CFP training and exam. It's too expensive, however. My guess is that it is priced assuming most students get reimbursed by their employers. For those of us who have to pay for the book out of our own pockets, it is too expensive.
Typical Textbook.......2007-02-21
textbook was purchased new. It is a large softcover which I am not sure will hold up for the length of my studies and I have found that much of the tax information is of course out of date and there are a couple of references that are incorrect. Time for a reprint.
Pretty good.......2006-07-25
A lot of good info. Fills in the gaps in my knowledge of investing, finance, banking, estate planning, retirement options, etc. There are quite a few typos, however, and a lot of awkward sentence structure. Strange because it's nothing that MS Word wouldn't catch. It needs a pro writer re-write.

Book Description
TriplePrep Plus provides explanations for all three LSAT-item types. This book also contains 50 previously administered writing sample prompts in adition to three complete PrepTests.
Customer Reviews:
I'm sure it's great.......2005-12-24
I haven't read it, but I have read several reviews and I'm so curious to know what people scored on the test.
Useful to Study.......2004-10-24
Although I agree with a previous post that suggests the title of this book is a bit misleading, since explanations are given for only 10 questions each from the reading, arguments, and games section of a single test, this is still a good book. It costs considerably less than other "official" test books put out by the the LSAT folks, who are not shy about their pricing. You get three complete, previously administered LSAT tests; the 30 explanations that are provided are quite useful, particularly those for the logic games. If you take all three tests in this book and study how the answers are arrived at, you will definitely be better prepared for the LSAT than you were before. If time permits, you can also download and study a free copy of a previously administered LSAT from the LSAC web site. Doing this will help you get prepared for the LSAT without mortgaging the farm for an expensive prep course, which you may not really need.
Best Source You'll Find.......2003-05-01
So I bought a few of the Kaplan-type books, and while they offer strategies, I tend to just want the real deal and work on my own. For all the future LSAT-takers out there, the best study method I can prescribe is getting old tests and taking as many as possible. Everyone does things differently, and this is the best way. The book shows a few answers for each type of question and describes how they arrived there, and supplies a few ***real*** LSATs. Buy this book, as well as many old tests as you can get your hands on and use those. It's plenty, trust me (I got into schools I thought I had no chance at).
The Book's Title is Very Misleading!!!.......2003-03-30
"Explanations for all three LSAT-item types" not all 3 tests!
The title on the cover of this book is "LSAT The Official Tripleprep Plus With Explanations." However, this book essentially contains 3 preptests with basic answers -- the only explanations given are for only ONE test, which really doesn't cover the whole test but only 10 questions for the reading, arguments, and games section. Please click on the picture of the book and look at its table of contents . . . you'll notice this fact.
At its current price, you are much better getting the "10 Actual, Official LSAT Preptests." (If you need explanations and strategies, get "Master the LSAT" by Nova or "The Official LSAT Prep Test with Explanations" which contains FULL explanations for one test.)
Customer Reviews:
Mostly Unnecesary Study Aid.......2005-11-28
Think twice before you get this book. All three tests in the book are available in other, more recent study books. It contains PrepTests 11, 12, & 13, which correspond to June 1994, October 1994, and December 1994, respectively. All three of these tests are available in "10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests.
The only things this book has that you won't find other places:
-Explanations for ten Logical Reasoning questions from PrepTest 11.
-Explanations for ten Reading Comprehension questions from Preptest 11.
-Explanations for ten Logical Game questions from PrepTest 11.
-50 writing sample prompts. (The writing sample changed in June 2005, adding a second type where you analyze an argument...the "argument prompt". The samples in this book only represent half of the essays, the "decision prompt".
There's no real reason to get this book. Few people practice with more than one or two prompts (if that). You get prompts with other PrepTests you buy so it is overkill. Maybe it would be useful if English wasn't your first language.
The explanations are also sub-par. LSAC's explanations from "The Official LSAT Superprep" and "The Official LSAT PrepTest with Explanations" are much better.
Don't just rely on this !!.......2000-11-13
yes, it is real previous test, but whenever the book mentioned explanation included, i expected full explanation on each one, but it is NOT. they only explain the selective question of one test, not 3 tests, which is kind of disappointed. and they don't teach you the strategy at all, you have to look at the cracking LSAT book for that. All above, the is a subsidary book only.
The Way To Study.......2000-06-22
I took the LSAT this fall, and I think that the most worthwhile and practical way to study for it is by taking these tests. While other books may be full of "hints" and "tips" the only way to really know what an LSAT will be like is by taking one, or preferably several.

Extreme LSAT studying.......2005-11-28
his book is one of the LSAT materials no longer for sale new. It contains old LSATs (old, as in before December 1995). The value of these tests is limited; if you were to study only three previous LSATs it would be best to take three of the newest LSATs. If you're doing all the old LSATs available then this book is one of the materials you'll need.
It contains PrepTests 3, 6, & 7 which correspond to December 1991, October 1992, and February 1993, respectively. Only PrepTests 3 & 6 are unavailable tests. As near as I can tell, you cannot obtain these tests from any other LSAT book (but testing companies may have them available for their students). PrepTest 7 is available in "10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests.
If you use these tests, use them early on in your practice. Work towards the newer exams as the date approaches the LSAT. If you're taking all 50+ LSATs available, you'll want at least one day off per week. So figure a maximum of 6 tests per week along with time adequate to review all your wrong answers and questionable responses. Count backward from the test and you'll have your study plan.

Book Description
This is a study of the first major American effort to aid a developing country--China--in the early twentieth century. Anyone interested in U.S.-China relations and in the American presence abroad will find it provocative and frequently moving.
Customer Reviews:
Enlightening.......2002-03-06
The Stubborn Earth is an excellent examination of American agricultural policy in China during the first half of the twentieth century. This book manages to be both a scholarly resource for those that study East Asian history academically and easy to understand for the average reader. It effectively ties into the greater story of Western exploitation of China that began early in the nineteenth century. The stories contained within are interesting and thought provoking. The book is a must for anyone that wishes to understand the past relationship between the United States and China, and the effect that relationship has had on the perceptions of both countries today.
