I found this book to be entirely fascinating and engaging. I couldn't put the book down. Joe Vitale has done a supurb job of of conveying the essence of P.T. Barnum and then translating the information into a way we can all use to further our marketing expertise. Run do not walk to get this book and all of Joe's other books! Once you've read any of Joe Vitale's marketing books, you are hooked - AND - they are all worth it. I started out as an engineer, so marketing doesn't come easy. But Joe "Mr. Fire" Vitale is helping me to think like a marketer. His proactive style really mixes well with mine; I think he has a knack for writer to each person as if you happen to be the one he intended the book for.

Needless to say There's a Customer Born Every Minute has played a huge role in helping me to be a successful businessman. Ever since reading the first book of Joe's, I have considered him to be a success mentor. His wisdom is easy to follow - but more than that, it is right on!           Book Description

          This book deals with experimental studies in economics. It investigates experimentally collusions in first-price auctions with private values. Since the main aim of the study is to see which mechanisms are used when the subjects may collude, the participants are allowed to communicate as long as they want, before they made their bids, but after they have known their private valuations. Moreover, the winner is allowed to make side payments to losing bidders. The subjects have to invent the mechanism they want to use by themselves. The theoretical possibilities are not explained to them. Four mechanisms have been observed. For each of them, we provide a game theoretical analysis and we compare the data with the theoretical prediction.

                      Recent marketing research has suggested that in-store environmental stimuli, such as shelf-space allocation and product display, has a great influence upon consumer buying behavior and may induce substantial demand. Prior work in this area, however, has not considered the effect of spatial relationships, such as the shelf-space adjacencies of distinct items, on unit sales. This paper, motivated in great part by the prominent beer and diapers example, uses data mining techniques to discover the implicit, yet meaningful, relationship between the relative spatial distance of displayed products and the items' unit sales in a retailer's store. The purpose of the developed mining scheme is to identify and classify the effects of such relationships. The managerial implications of the discovered knowledge are crucial to the retailer's strategic formation in merchandising goods. This paper proposes a novel representation scheme and develops a robust algorithm based on association analysis. To show its efficiency and effectiveness, an intensive experimental study using self-defined simulation data was conducted. The authors believe that this is the first academically researched attempt at exploring this emerging area of the merchandising problem using data mining.
