Difficult to continue reading.......2006-06-10
This book, though perceived valuable by a few other readers, is a tough book to get through. It is such a slow read that I couldn't read it carefully and thoughtfully after the first hundred pages - I simply skimmed the rest. There are many many many other behavioral books that use real-world stories to get the point across that there are different types of employees, bosses, leaders. This book does it in a repetitious and slow fashion, causing me, the reader, to have to set the book down after less than an hour of reading because of how boring and difficult the metaphors and wording was to read completely through. Not only was the authors writing difficult and not to the point, but the mention of dolphin, carp, shark scattered throughout this book was just plain boring. It may have a good lesson, but so do other, more enjoyable books.

I have read the book many times and I see new perspective every time; I bought many copies of the books for my best friends and my best enemies. I spoke so much about the life changing effects the book had on me that all the copies in my library are all on loan and I could not get them back again.

The Dolphin book has stayed on my credenza for years!.......1999-09-04
The Strategy of the Dolphin has been an incredibly influential book in my career. Concepts like "do what you fear" and "talk about HOW you're talking about it" are part of my everyday thought. The metaphor of the dolphin works very well: an animal that can outsmart a shark! When something isn't working a Dolphin does something different! That's a great lesson for life.

I read this book when it first was published because I was in an executive position with a not for profit organization. Throughout the years I have referred to it and each time it has revealed another secret in my life style. I loaned it to a friend and never got it back, so am now buying my second copy. Misleading book from an "expert" who cheats people.......2007-07-29
I didn't like this book because it rehashes a lot of the same stuff in his first book, thus the materials is not very "new". "Ted Tesser's New Book" is a case of the Emperor's New Clothes. The author runs a supposedly reputable business in Florida trying to "save traders money". I followed the tax advice in the book on setting up corporate entities and ended up caught between a rock and a hard place, because the book did not include critically important details (perhaps intentionally?). When I needed more specific details, the authors' company tried to force me to pay $350/hour charged to a credit immediately over the phone for advice if my CPA was standing there to help me make sense of it all. The phone call was already costing me $100/hour. At that point I knew I was dealing with a sheister. I would not recommend this book or getting involved with the Waterside Financial to anyone. Good beginner book.......2005-08-13
The book is really good. The reason why I gave it only 3 stars is that it doesn't cover the complex stuff I am looking for. And it mostly target to small trader. This book will do you little good if you able to make over million dollars a year from the market. The book does not mention much about asset protection. As with any trader, the only asset is their cash, and I believe the author should put more work into this section if a new version is on the way.

The tittle is somewhat misleading.......2003-12-22
[...] After reading the book, (BTW, I bought it nearly one year ago) I realized it doesn't provide detailed solutions that might help us do-it-yourself folks to prepare tax returns, if, for instance, you're a Security trader.
The book, however, is a very good start where one may find a quite complete education on tax and estate planning, and where one may find further info. It provides many real life court cases, involving tax filings, with comments. [...] this is not a "how-to" book. For instance, it doesn't tell me how to complete Form 3115 line by line, rather it explains the purpose of the Form and the key points one must know about the Form.
The number of issues covered in the book may be more than what one needs to know. All in all, it is a very good text for those who care to know more about their money and taxes, and the nasty surprises that IRS has in store for the unprepared.

Be prepared to pay a pretty penny to your CPA.......2003-04-20
I own this update and his last book. Basically concepts are good and prose somewhat entertaining. However, here is the catcher. If you are going to use a CPA for doing all this stuff be prepared to hock your house and your family. What the CPA'S do not get the lawyers will when they charge you for setting up your FLP. I saw one bit of communication where the authors states that refiling was not worthwhile when his fees were factored in !!!!. That should tell you something. You do not believe me just call his office for a quote. This guy's has found the hoy grail of relieving most investors...opps ! i mean us traders from our profits !
WHY THE HELL THE GOVT DID NOT MAKE TAXES SIMPLER IS BEYOND ME...!. trust the feds to complicate anythin they touch...!
PROBABLY BECAUSE THE CPA LOBBY LIKE THE TRIAL LAWYERS AND THE NRA HAVE DEEP POCKETS TO KEEP THINGS THERE WAY.

I found this book to be a vast waste of time. There is very little of practical use to the trader. The author spends the majority of the book on his "Triple Crown" of reducing taxes. None of which you can do without a CPA. You would be better off visiting this book at your local bookstore, jotting down the "Triple Crown" and then hiring a CPA to explain it to you. The writing is poor and difficult to follow -- not because of the technical difficulty, but, because the sentences and paragraphs are so poorly constructed. Save the $( ) and look elsewhere.
I'm glad I waited..........2000-02-19
I just received this book this week after some publishing delays and I'm glad I didn't decide to cancel the pre-publication order. This book is well worth the wait. It's much better than Tesser's previous book. There are lots of examples and even goes into details on estate planning in addition to the tax advantages of trader's status. This book will definitely give you something to think about how to plan and do your taxes!

The Trader's Tax Solution is a must for any investor who wants to minimize his/her taxes. Mr. Tesser also provides wonderful insight into retirement and estate planning. Well worth the price! If you are interested in legally reducing your tax bite, then this is the book for you.
