Book Description
The third stage of European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) was implemented in January 1999 against the specter of persistently high unemployment in many of the participating countries. While the high European unemployment has received considerable attention, this new IMF staff study analyzes an equally important issue: the extent of regional unemployment disparities in certain countries. The paper focuses on large and persistent differences in regional unemployment rates within several European countries. The paper includes detailed case studies of two euro area countries where regional disparities in unemployment are strikingItaly and Spain. The studies emphasize that wages are unresponsive to local labor market conditions.

Praise for Intangible Assets
"In Intangible Assets, Jeffrey Cohen presents an informative, thought-provoking and practical look at an increasingly important component of every business's worth. He describes the art and science of identifying assets that have clear economic benefit, but are typically not found on the balance sheet, and he provides an invaluable framework within which the reader can value these assets, despite their elusive nature."
Rick Westervelt, President, Skylist, Inc.
"Jeffrey Cohen's integrative approach to conceptual issues of intangible assets is creative and a refreshing contribution. He brings law, economics, finance, and accounting to the same table, which results in a comprehensive framework for understanding how value is created and sustained. His construct of 'proto-assets' and 'portfolio of intangible economic benefits' is key. Written in an easy-to-read style with many practical examples, this book will be useful for both novice and experienced professionals."
W. Dana Northcut, PhD, Adjunct Associate Professor of Accounting Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago Principal, Chicago Partners, LLC
"This volume is the perfect resource for newcomers to IP valuation. Through lucid explanations and well-chosen illustrations, it does for the reader exactly what a valuation expert should do for a clientit makes the abstract concrete. But this volume is not just for the novice; it holds insights that will be useful to IP experts in law, accounting, and economics."

Actual Personal Statements from Successful Applicants.......2006-07-26
If you are planning to attend a graduate or professional school, you will have to submit a successful application, accompanied by a first-rate personal statement.
Of all the tasks we usually face when applying to graduate and professional schools, from choosing universities to preparing for and taking admission and standardized tests, from soliciting recommendations to having transcripts send out, writing a good personal essay is among the most important and difficult to accomplish. The strong competition for admissions to grad schools, the personal statement often becomes a crucial element of your application package. It is the one element that can set you apart from the competition and open the door to your successful application.
This book describes the mistakes that applicants commonly make, and offer advice on how to make your statements as effective as possible. This handy reference is packed with inside advice and proven strategies to help you get into your first choice schools. Among other things you will learn:
- What questions are asked an all the most popular professional and graduate school applications.
- How to create and write personal essays that impress admission officials.
- What goes into a recommendation letter, and who should write it.
- How to handle in-person interviews.
Absolutely a must have for anyone applying to graduate and professional school.
Fascinating example essays, Advice from admission directors.......2003-02-12
I find the previous review disturbing. It is obviously the editor or author of the book giving themselves kudos.
I liked the book. It made me realize that the personal statement should not only be a self-marketting piece, but also be entertaining enough as to not get sorted into the circular file.
Review of Perfect Personal Statements.......2001-12-08
Every year, college students across the country prepare to enter the workforce or graduate school. One important part of this process is writing a personal statement that describes and applicant's goals, experiences, and future plans. Mark Alan Stewart is an expert on graduate level entrance exams. His book, Perfect Personal Statements, provides information and advice for college students seeking admission to graduate and professional schools.
Stewart's book is easy to read and understand. He answers the common questions like, "How will my essay be evaluated?" and "Should I discuss that glaring blemish in my past, or should I ignore it?" Stewart also provides students with minor details, like how to dress for an in-person interview. Finally, the advice from medical, law, and business school experts could prove to be helpful. The experts provide specific information about what they look for in an application. Each type of school has different standards and it is beneficial to know what admission offices across the country like to see.
College students applying to graduate schools tend to be very busy. They don't have time to read a long and confusing book. Mark Alan Stewart seems to have kept this in mind. He has packed a lot of information into only 114 pages. The book is also divided into sections that allow the reader to quickly find information on certain subjects. Stewart's book helps to simplify the application process and provides students with strategies to prevent them from feeling overwhelmed and frustrated.
Good not great.. but real example.......2001-02-19
The title said so. This is the guide for writing statement. Unlike other books, this book won't show the typical format. This book, however, shows the "real" statement of applicant who success. Many examples are interesting. Moreover, the guideline of recommend letter request is very good. It's not only for people who ask letter of recommendation, but also for the recommendation letter writter can see what they should said to thier students. I disagree with other reviewer that this book is not limited only Law, Business, and Medical school. It's true that the title said it and the examples are to Law, Business and Medical school. However, if you read it carefully, many examples and guidelines can be used in other school as well. This book is well written and organized. However, due to limited resource, example and guideline, this book is only in 3 stars.
only good for law, business and medical school applicants.......1999-10-16
This book is nice for people applying to law, business or medical school but doesn't cover anything for other programs.

Professional resumes review.......2000-04-29
Excellent source for example resumes. There is a great deal of variety, with each of the 200 resumes unique in some way.
However, there is no "how to" section. It is left up to the reader to determine the do's and dont's of each resume.
Book Description
Contains excellent advice on how to prepare an interview-getting resume along with guidance on locating new employment. Features resumes for junior and experienced lawyers, cover and thank-you letters, interviewing, reference checking and more. Resumes include 36 different job descriptions.

Truly awful.......2005-09-17
A resume is tricky to write, at best. You have to highlight years' worth of accomplishments at different jobs and possibly even different fields in a page or two. Attorney resumes can be particularly complex, as many of us worked for some time at a first career before coming to the law, and need some way to handle that time of our lives in a legal resume. Further, many attorneys have both in-house and firm experience, and will want to tailor the content of their resumes accordingly. In addition, the type of resume a corporation might want to see may be a lot different from what a law firm expects to see.
Given the complexity of the topic, one would expect a book entitled "Best Resumes for Attorneys" to provide some insight into these issues. Instead, the book fails utterly, providing instead a "Best Resume for Attorneys." All experiences are mashed into a bland one-page format that strips out virtually anything that might distinguish you from anyone else. The authors waste precious page space hectoring the reader about how certain example resumes are bad because of formatting errors, as if this were a secretarial handbook rather than a book for professionals. Every example of a so-called "best resume" is virtually identical to every other example provided.
If you read this, your brain will actually expel knowledge it already has about good writing and job search tactics. Avoid entirely. This isn't even worth checking out from the library, because even touching the cover of this book might taint your ability to write like a human being and put together any kind of resume that might actually get you a job.
Should be entitled "Simple Resumes for Top Attorneys only".......2004-02-23
This is probably the worst book I've ever reviewed on the subject. Sure, it's great if you are an attorney from a top 10 school at the top 20% of your class, but still are not bright enough to figure out the most basic of tactics. True, the gatekeepers for the elite jobs are not authorized to think outside of the box, and therefore resumes based on these tips will appeal to them; on the other hand, there is no reason that these attorneys should have to put more than a cursory search together as these employers will be chasing them. As to the rest of us presumably unqualified professionals, the book is of absolutely no relevance. Based on this, I presume that the authors (legal recruiters) are likewise only interested in finding jobs for the papered best and brightest.
Best Resumes for Attorneys.......2000-03-18
This should be entiled "Best Resumes for Attorneys at the Top of your Class, (As for the rest of you, we're not concerned)." Hey, everyone knows law is extremely competitive, but shouldn't there be something in this book for someone not in top 20% or above. Every sample resume involves being at the top of your class. Obviously, I didn't graduate in the stratosphere but I am far from being alone, 80+%. Also, I've been able to eke out a decent practice despite this. I've used this book for the past few years and it is helpful because there is a large selection of sample resumes and cover letters to choose from, but I've often chuckled to myself when doing so, because for having such a large selection of examples for so many areas of the law, it just deals with the "elite." It never addresses anyone who might be below this standard. That is why I think that its use is somewhat limited and not realistic.
Good resume advice.......1998-11-03
This book provides good resume templates. I then used the "Vault Reports Guide to America's Top 50 Law Firms" to send resumes to law firm hiring managers and to prepare for my interviews.

Loved it.......2001-12-25
I loved this book, it helped me get some great jobs! David Saltman's brilliant work has touched me dearly, therefore I have become a better person. I have learned more about attorney resumes and endored it greatly. Thank you for enlightening me with this book which gives a true sense to the depths of writing a successful resume.
Better Resumes for Attorneys & Paralegals.......2000-08-27
I am just entering the paralegal field and was looking for an advantage while job searching; I purchased this book with that hope in mind. When this book was published in 1986, I am sure it was a good reference. Laws regarding employment questions have changed, and the examples given in this book are very out of date. I found the book, "How to Land Your First Paralegal Job," to be an excellent resource. I would recommend that book over this one. I think this book should be revised or taken off the market.

One of the worst books on careers/resumes ever.......2002-06-10
It's hard to believe that such a book remains on the market. The examples could hardly be less timely. This book is a horrible purchase. I have read it from cover to cover and have found not ONE iota of information helpful. PLEASE do not waste your money on this book!
Buy this book (if you want to write a bad resume).......2001-11-26
This book sucks! I wish I could issue a TRO against it. I wish there was a good book on this subject - (authors anyone?) and have seen books in other professions (i.e. health). First of all, as another reviewer stated, this book is out of date, but shouldn't be. It was published in 1995, and I think my resume looked better than the formatting techniques presented by this author (wasn't Microsoft Word around then?). The resumes aren't divided by area of practice or speciality, nor divided by chrnological and functional. Additionally, the examples do not adaquately follow the rules of resume writing, using active verbs, telling a story, selling the candidate. Many of the resumes don't even state what the person did at the careers. I can't believe that these were based on resumes of people who actually got jobs. If you want a good book on resume writing, check out the "idiots guide for resumes". (Yes I hate being called an idiot - but it was the best "how to" write resumes I've found.) If someone can write a better book than this, please do. Do not waste your time with this unless you want a ten dollar tax deduction.
Out of date and not worth your time.......2000-11-11
I have had experience writing resumes for corporate jobs and just hoped that this book would give me some ideas for a law resume. It didn't. Actually, the book contained many poor examples of resumes that were unclear and poorly laid out. They were resumes I would never consider sending to someone who actually had the power to hire me for fear that the resume would immediately end up in the trash. Don't use these examples and don't waste your money.

Book Description
Degradation of the environment is a serious, world-wide problem and with an increasing population, there is pressure for more sound and ecologically based land techniques. The the tropics, continuance of agriculture has accelerated the destruction of forests and on a global scale, concern is being raised about the progressive depletion of renewable resources. In temperate regions such as Europe, loss of integrity to the soil, erosion and flooding due to forest depletion is less of a problem and objectives to be met are different, for instance, there is a need to reduce the land area in agricultural production within the EEC. Agroforestry as a multiple land-use systems is a means for fulfilling these objectives. The papers in this volume comprise the main body of papers presented at the international conference on Agroforestry: Principles and Practice held in Edinburgh in July, 1989. The aim of the conference was to bring together s
