Book Description
The unique, central concept of Techniques of Financial Analysis is the “business system,” an effective and intuitive way of visualizing the key areas of the typical business organization, and the related investment, operating, and financing decisions that drive its performance and value. This cash flow model (see Chapter 1) serves as the basic structure to which all analytical concepts and tools are related, so that the student is always aware of the larger operational and strategic context in which these techniques should be applied to properly understand the process of successful value creation in a business. Such contextual insight is critical in a specialized subject like financial analysis, which is generally taught in a dry, accounting-oriented fashion. The presentation has always been kept up to date and is carefully designed to help the reader visualize the linkage between management decisions and financial performance and value. Very importantly, the book demonstrates the modern requirement to distinguish between cash flow (economic) and accounting-based analysis. It helps the reader to interpret financial reports, develop integrated financial projections, understand basic financial modeling, evaluate business investment decisions, develop the implications of financing choices, derive the value of a business or a security, and understand the support role of economic analysis in achieving shareholder value creation. Every technique and measure is described and demonstrated in the context of the underlying key financial and economic concepts, but without delving into theoretical abstraction.
Customer Reviews:
Book is great, software related to the book is not.......2006-12-09
The graphical presentations and practical explanations are very helpful to valuation practitioners. I was so impressed I purchased the related software that is promoted in and modeled after the book. It never functioned correctly, and after a week of trying to reach technical support I finally reached them and they didn't really try to resolve the software's Visual Basic malfunction. Book is great, but ignore it's promotion of the software.
The Professor Says:.......2001-05-18
Having read his sixth edition, I was impressed enough with the 10th edition that I use it for the college class I teach. Unlike most books in this area, Dr. Helfert's book is easy to read and VERY practitioner oriented. I truly believe that if you have an interest in financial analysis, either as an investor or from the perspective of running your own organization, this is the single most valuable resource you could own. If I didn't believe that was true, I'd have my students using a different book.
Book Description
Law changes as new developments affect society. The dawn of a new century provides a marking point for the evaluation of trends in law and policy. This book examines emerging issues that will shape society's rules and legal processes in the twenty-first century. By identifying developments affecting technology, demography, and politics, the authors evaluate impacts on law and criminal justice. Many of the issues discussed, including the expanding Latino population, new technologies for investigations, weapons, and executions, health crises in prisons, DNA testing, and the "war on terrorism," will have profound effects on the fates of individuals drawn into the justice system.

Book Description
Dictionaries are didactic books used as consultation instruments for self-teaching. They are composed by an ordered set of linguistic units which reflects a double structure, the macrostructure which correspond to the word list and the microstructure that refers to the contents of each lemma. The great value of dictionaries nests in the fact that they establish a standard nomenclature and prevent in that way the appearance of new useless synonyms.
This dictionary contains a total of about 27.500 main English entries, and over of 130.000 translations that should normally sufficiently cover all fields of life sciences. The basic criteria used to accept a word a part of the dictionary during the development period in order of importance were usage, up-to-dateness, specificity, simplicity and conceptual relationships. The dictionary meets the standards of higher education and covers all main fields of life sciences by setting its primary focus on the vastly developing fields of cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, developmental biology, microbiology, genetics and also the fields of human anatomy, histology, pathology, physiology, zoology and botany.
The fields of ecology, paleontology, systematics, evolution, biostatistics, plant physiology, plant anatomy, plant histology, biometry and lab techniques have been sufficiently covered but in a more general manner. The latest Latin international anatomical terminology "Terminologia Anatomica" or "TA" has been fully incorporated and all anatomical entries have been given their international Latin TA synonym. This dictionary will be a valuable and helpful tool for all scientists, teachers, students and generally all those that work within the fields of life sciences.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent choice - Certainly more than a reference work.......2006-01-26
This book is more than a reference book.
It is expensive but also one of its kind! Well organized, extensively covering all claimed scientific fields and has such a vast number of synonyms in each language (in English for example it presents over 22.000 cross-referenced synonyms) that could be also used as a scientific thesaurus.
The incorporation of the Greek, Italian and Latin languages in this singe volume is without doubt a great accomplishment since all the previous languages are source languages of scientific terminology of the fields of life sciences.
Although most scientific dictionaries lack grammatical information, this book presents a clear brief info that is very helpful for all those trying to compile scientific texts in a foreign language.
Closing this review it would be a mistake to overlook that in its 2590 pages one can find the modern translation of almost any term -from- and -to- any language between English Greek German Italian and Latin.

Book Description
Elsevier's Dictionary of Aquatic Biology contains terms related to marine and freshwater animals and plants and their environment. Terms from general biology and those related to water in some way or another are widely represented. Terms from the following applied fields are included:
Water quality assessment, water purification, biotechnology, aquaculture, and - above all - commercial fisheries, and fish culture. Also included are main terms of laboratory technique and seamanship currently used in texts on fisheries and marine expeditions, as well as names of fishes, mammals, amphibians, waterfowl and water plants, and some geographical names, as far as they present difficulties for translation.
The dictionary stems from the senior author's 40 years of experience as a professional translator and a professional biologist in the field of aquatic animals and plants. The junior author, a specialist in algology and mycology, also participated in all aspects of the compilation of this dictionary.
This dictionary will be a useful tool for translators and scientists dealing with hydrobiology, ecology, oceanology, limnology, ichthyology, fisheries, and other applied fields. It will also contribute to a more precise understanding in this period of development of scientific and commercial communications between many countries of the world and Russia.

Book Description
Biology is an extensive subject that has undergone a vast expansion and so comprises not only such conventional aspects as taxonomy, morphology, biochemistry, functional physiology, and ecology, but also the rapidly expanding new fields of cell biology and molecular biology. This dictionary attempts to provide a comprehensive coverage of biological terms, recognising also that the interface between biology and other sciences, such as chemistry and physics as well as medicine, is becoming less distinct and includes terms from these other areas.
This book is intended especially for teachers and students of biology and other natural sciences, environmental sciences and medicine. College students, amateur biologists, journalists, translators and civil service officers will also find this a useful tool.

Book Description
Presented in this dictionary is a concentrated listing of all main terms from various biological fields. It combines terms from both fundamental and applied biology, i.e. from commercial fields dealing with biological processes or biological products. All branches of theoretical biology, methods, and laboratory techniques are covered. The following applied fields are represented: medicine, veterinary science, agriculture, forestry, hunting, fish culture, biotechnology, food industry, nature conservation, and environmental assessment. Special attention is paid to two-word terms with personal names, which make a special difficulty in translation. Scientists, translators, and specialists dealing with applied fields will find this dictionary invaluable.
