Product Description

Based upon 17 years of ongoing research involving more than 40,000 people from over 25 cultures, extensively field-tested, and adopted internationally by Fortune 500 companies, Human Dynamics? is a developmental system that demystifies the complexities of how people function and interact with one another. Human Dynamics presents a powerful framework for understanding the distinct ways in which we process information, learn, communicate, relate with one another, manifest stress, maintain well-being, and develop as human beings. At the heart of Human Dynamics are the three universal principles we all share in different capacities--mental, emotional, and physical--fundamental threads that cross culture, age, race, and gender to unify us all. As we learn to appreciate our commonalities and differences, we can use our unique gifts and apply new understanding to enrich our relationships, heighten "collective intelligence", communicate more effectively, work together more productively, enhance creativity, optimize team learning, and strengthen organizational performance. Actual accounts from major companies including Intel Corporation, Intermountain Healthcare System, and London Life Insurance Company document how Human Dynamics can optimize business relationships, organizational learning, teamwork, and communication.

5 out of 5 stars A Proper Examination and Explanation of Human Action.......2001-01-24

If you have found most personality tests insignificant, unhelpful, or unrevealing, then perhaps this book is for you. Human Dynamics goes into much more depth and provides a greater understanding of human communication and actions than any simple personality test. While people can be placed into certain "dynamics," these dynamics are not nearly as restraining or stereotypical as personality tests tend to be. Rather than explaining one's personality, dynamics explain how groups of people tend to process information, not necessarily how aggressive, passive, or "likeable" they are. This book helped me in terms of personal discovery, and has also helped me understand why it always seemed that so many people "just never seemed to think like me."

5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2000-07-09

Models to describe human personality are presented. Each model has it unique characteristics, its strengths and weaknesses. Each model will respond most effectively to certain modes of communications. This understanding of the different models presented will help a manager, a teacher, a student or just about anybody to understand themselves and people around them better. This will enable better communication of ideas and thoughts. Students will learn better and managers will be able to communicate more effectively with individuals. The models can be taken up to an organizational level. The applications of this book are far and wide. It is also simply and clearly written.

5 out of 5 stars improving teamwork in your organisation,family & community.......1998-11-06

the first time that I have found an approach which looks at humans holistically and systemically. It is not a group of personality characteristics describing superficial behaviours, but a way of understanding and recognising internal processes particular to various human dynamics. It therefore goes much deeper than any other personality assessment technique I have seen and because of this can not be reduced to a paper and pencil test. However, the gift this approach brings is that it can be taught to everyday people and can provide access to better relationships and a greater understanding of how to release our judgement of others. A truly life changing book.

5 out of 5 stars A most complete study of human diversity........1998-08-24

It is obvious that Dr. Seagal has worked extremely hard to confirm her research since 1979. Her style of writing is clear, concise and void of jargon. I found the content easy to absorb, understand and apply. Just the heightend awarness of how diverse we are has made a significant difference in how I work and related to people. I can see some real possibilities for applying in a business context.

4 out of 5 stars New Edition Doesn't always mean improved.......2005-09-13

I have purchased the first and second edition in the past and would rate them both 5's. This new edition does not flow as well. I have used these books in the past to train my assistants who usually work with me for two years anmd the results have always been impressive. My current assistant is even more eagar to learn yet we seem to get "stuck in the mud with this edition. " I seriously considered rating this a three but relented when I realise that I was punishinmg the editors for failing to live up to the expectations they created in me due to past stellar performances, so in justice, I rated it a 4.

4 out of 5 stars Handy but.......2005-02-20

there are 'way too many typos in the formulas and calculations; really needed a better proofreader and/or formula and table typist. So if you don't already have some experience with the subject matter, you will find working through the examples frustrating as you encounter these errors.

Another caveat: the examples are headed in big bold type, while the principles they illustrate are in smaller italic type. This makes it more difficult than necessary to find the subject you're looking for and to determine what the example is illustrating.

Could also use a Glossary and an Index.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding, comprehensive book..........2004-06-02

I would have kept my copy, but I ended up selling it along with a few other study guides to someone else that would have found it a lot more helpful in his quest to complete his BS in business. I originally ran into hunting this book down because bain4weeks.com recommended it as the appropriate text to study for the production/operations mgmt Excelsior (ECE) test. Excelsior had discontinued that test, so I was attempting to take the equivilant TECEP .

I failed by 5 points and decided to get another text that more closely related to the test: Operations Mgmt ISBN: 0072476702. Will update when I pass this last test for my degree. But the Vest Pocket MBA was all in all a very interesting read...something to add to a collection (bookshelf). I heard there will be a 4th edition coming out in Dec 2004. What more can then include? Probably will have some more e-business/internet commerce concepts stuffed in. If not in a hurry, I'd wait around for the newer version of it. See for more info on applying college credit through testing to an accredited degree.

5 out of 5 stars Good Review Material - Perfect Size.......2003-01-09

This book presents a very nice summary of materials required by most MBA courses in general.

Want a secret? This book is perfect to stick in your back pocket while you are at work...

5 out of 5 stars Required by every MBA student and business manager!!!!.......1999-04-25

This is one of the best fast references for business decision making and calculations. Rather than looking throught the voluminous texts which are required materials of business schools, this reference book holds all calculation procedures and examples of formula application required in MBA programs. Additional statistics tables are also included. This is a must for MBA students and business managers.

    Product Description

Bioethics, once a part of “law and medicine,” is an expanding field of inquiry that is now generally recognized as a discipline in its own right – one that attracts widespread attention and interest. As a result there is a great deal of interest in the subject and now there is a casebook, which rewards that interest. The Garrison-Schneider teaching materials link the practical problems the area richly presents with larger conceptual issues about how law works and American culture functions; offer students a vivid sense of the realities of life in the patient’s hospital room, the doctor’s examination room and the hospital lawyer’s office, and draw not simply on cases and statutes, but on patients’ accounts of their illnesses, doctors’ reports of encounters with patients, ethicists’ reflections on doctor's duties, sociologists’ investigation of life in hospitals, and psychologists’ studies of how doctors and patients make decisions.

        Book Description

Based on abundant original research linking science, agriculture, business and the state, Ontario's Cattle Kingdom explores the significance of beef cattle and livestock farming in Ontario during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Margaret Derry concentrates much of her research on the herds themselves (purebred and otherwise), using them as cultural texts to explain patterns of innovation adoption and the problems with strategies to control market share.

The result is a fascinating and lively work, illustrating the complexity of agricultural history and offering an entirely new perspective on the social history of post-Confederation Ontario. The story of the purebred cattle breeders' world, for example, also describes the medical opinions of the nineteenth century, as well as disease control and the relationship between human and animal illness. And the stories are many: the evolution of cattle associations and organizations, the impact of technological progress on purebred herds, attempts to control disease and state regulation, and the relationship between the producers and consumers. Drawing from a wealth of historical case studies, Derry also presents the purebred breeders' theories and practices, their views on genetics and eugenics, as well as the implications of these practices on national and international patterns of beef economy.

            Book Description

As the family farm of yesterday steadily loses ground to the corporate farm of tomorrow, pundits and plain folks alike bemoan the loss of the homely, down-to-earth rural life that few actually know or remember anymore. Allan G. Bogue is a notable exception. A legendary agricultural, political, and economic historian, and one of only three historians ever elected to the National Academy of Sciences, Bogue has for the last fifty years written about the political and economic forces shaping agriculture. And he himself has roots in the family farm—roots he traces in this memoir that is both a thoughtful tribute to the tradition that nurtured him and North America and an authentic, unsentimental portrait of the hard life that most have abandoned.

Through descriptions of neighborly good will, adverse climate, charismatic family relations, and the seasonal tasks demanded by dairy farming, Bogue imparts the rhythms of growing up in rural Ontario in the early years of the twentieth century. Tracing the family's fortunes through the ups and downs of the economy in the 1920s and 1930s, he draws an absorbing picture of how they and their neighbors farmed, the crops they raised, the livestock they kept, the technology they used, and the stresses, strains, frustrations, sadness, joy, and triumphs they experienced. Firsthand history of a rare and moving sort, his book is at once an elegy for a disappearing way of life and a deftly realized, meticulously reconstructed chapter of North American history.

                Book Description

                Classic barns of North America.

This book celebrates the era of North American barn-building known as "The Golden Age of Barn Construction," from the early 1700s to the mid-20th century. The author explores the variety of barn styles, pays tribute to the craftsmanship of their builders, and chronicles the lives and times of both the barns and those who built them. Barn Building is illustrated throughout with contemporary color interior and exterior photographs, historic black-and-white photos, and the author's own illustrations.

The barns featured are in various European and North American styles. Some examples:

Specific barns include, among many others, a Vermont cider mill, bank barns in Ohio Amish country, a Pennsylvania star barn, and a Quebec mystic barn.

Rural life has been forever changed by mega-farms and urbanization. Barn Building celebrates the remarkable treasures of rural architecture that still dot the landscape.

                    Book Description

How has the Ontario Agricultural College contributed to Canadian education? What role has the college played in the development of agriculture since it was founded in 1874? This history of Canada's oldest agricultural college revolves around these two questions. It shows that the college's mandate has changed in its attempt to serve both education and agriculture. The Ontario Agricultural College was established to enshrine science in farming, but it also became the testing and extension arm of the provincial ministry of agriculture. Direct government control for ninety years provided financial resources not enjoyed by other post-secondary schools, but the results sometimes proved of greater benefit to agriculture than to education or science. Swept into the University of Guelph when it was created in 1964, the college rethought its role. It emerged as a centre for advanced scientific inquiry, for global agricultural programs, and for understanding rural societies. The controversies surrounding these changes and the evolving nature of agriculture and science are brought out fully in this account of the past century and a quarter.
