Wayne hissed bending forward at the waist. Anna remained seated, already stressed and getting more so....... HERES THE GOOD NEWS FROM BBSG: that Ring of Fire of Waynes was artificially generated and largely illusory. It may have been of the Bullys design, but was sustainable only by Annas reasonable, but false, sense of smallness. If Anna was going to find relief from her Bully, it would not be found inside of the little Ring of Fire in which he had once again trapped her and where he was the biggest thing going.

This book describes the many facets of supervisory bullying behavior in the workplace. Mueller cautions often disbelieving employee victims that bullying bosses consciously calculate, select, and plan attacks on them. When attacks occur, targeted employees are shocked, confused, humiliated, and naturally seek to respond emotionally (e.g., fight or flight). Mueller asks that potential victions stop, step back and self-consciously maintain their emotions sufficiently to pursue more rational ends by using indirect tactics and activities that can generate coworker allies, support, resources, witnesses, and documentation advantageous to them. Employees are urged to stay focused on politically acceptable and legal objectives when interacting with and around workplace bullies.

The author offers an ideal model of employee survival and a guide for becoming a proactive, competent, resilient, life-changing Workplace Warrior. Mueller uses case examples to support the assertion that regular use of the guide can strengthen employees psychologically, strengthen their anti-bullying behavior, and limit the net demoralizing effects of scape-goating behavior and victimization in the workplace. The author will suggest key roles for coworkers, managers, therapists, counselors, and, of course, lawyers in the process of helping employee recovery, self-transformation, behavioral decision-making, and, ultimately, life changes.

I highly recommend this book to any one suffering from bullying behavior and to any responsible person who seeks to help empower workers in the attainment of safer, healthier, and more creative workplace settings.

A Must Read for Targets.......2006-08-04

This book is a must read for anyone who has ever worked, has a job now or is thinking of entering the workplace. Knowledge is power and this book provides just that. `Bullying Bosses, A Survivor's Guide' is actually two books in one: Part I, provides an overview of Workplace Bullying and its components. Part II is a manual to aid Targets to become Workplace Warriors.

Part I provides an excellent summary of international knowledge on Workplace Bullying and additional information gleaned from Robert's practice working with Targets and organisations. He cleverly uses a descriptor, the `Ring of Fire', to describe how isolated Targets can become. He brings to life the specific false and unfounded criticism directed at a Target and skilfully cultivated by a Workplace Bully. It is easy to see why team members withdraw and leave the Target to eventual isolation. Robert explains the nuances of each act well and introduces specific descriptors about bullying bosses and their colleagues, who through doing nothing, collude with the Workplace Bully. Robert's depiction, of how the diverse facets of organisations work together to attack a high performer and bring him/her down, is very real.

Part II is a life line for Targets. It describes how to beat the Workplace Bully at his or her own game and become a Workplace Warrior. Robert describes the knowledge, skills and abilities a Target needs in order to take on a Workplace Bully. This is particularly pertinent in small cities and towns and highly specialised environments where jobs are not always plentiful and available and people cannot typically walk away and get another job. People do not speak out because they are afraid of being black listed; rather they stay quiet and tolerate the Workplace Bullying. `Bullying Bosses' describes ways of managing these situations from a position of strength. The book gives action plans for reaction and planning and outcomes to strive for.

This book is a necessary read for senior managers and human resources professionals who truly wish to prevent Workplace Bullying. They will learn what constitutes Workplace Bullying and how it works to break individuals emotionally and therefore impacts self esteem and consequently productivity.

The book is an excellent reference book for Targets who want to fight the silent epidemic and expose Workplace Bullies for the chaos and desolation they cause and the lives they ruin.

Logically analyzing the psychology of the belligerent and hostile superiors, Bullying Bosses offers readers a means for analyzing and responding to an employer's bullying behavior. Robert Mueller covers such issues as who challenges employees, support in the workplace, building a case against the boss that management can respect, collecting potent data, identifying patterns, crafting a simple strategic plan, grow beyond workplace turmoil into a clarity, strength and grace. Bullying Bosses is very strongly recommended for all readers searching for a "user-friendly" guide in dealing with the difficulties involved in poor employee-to-boss relationships.

Stare-down the Bully.......2006-04-11

It is rare that a book of reference and self-help should read like an edge-of-the-seat John Grisham thriller. But this significant contribution to the study of bullying in the workplace often does. Robert Mueller, in his own words, is a "former attorney who represented a couple thousand employees suffering adverse employer actions, many involving bullying." He sure introduces the drama of the courtroom and the rudiments of the adversarial system into the 300 pages of his survivor's guide.

The author calls on managers to become aware of the dynamics that turn many workplaces into simmering stealth infernos. Employees should protect employers from bullies. Mueller leverages court cases and case histories into a cogent and methodological analysis of bullying tactics and strategies. Parallelly, he weaves a tapestry of legal, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions as he analyses the victim's mentality and reactions. Strewn among the pages of this rich presentation are highlighted tips and quotes.

Mueller's message is simple: targets of bullying have to face down their tormentors. They have to become "workplace warriors" with "shields and swords". Easier said than done - but, still, can be done, argues the author. The target has to discover and groom potential supporters, build a case against the bullying boss, collect potent data and identify patterns of misbehavior, craft a plan, and implement it. It's all about empowerment by regaining control over situations that frequently and falsely look hopeless. The author takes the victim by the hand and convincingly shows him or her how to do it.

I recommend the book to anyone who has ever been involved in on-the-job harassment, stalking, and bullying because it is both deep and practical, accurate but never arcane, eye opening and thought provoking and challenging - but never loses its empathy and compassion for the victims of this widespread and under-reported phenomenon. Quite a brilliant book...for reseting your mindset!.......2005-02-16

Surprisingly, this book has been out in the market for more than a decade & yet I have not come across any reviews. This book is, in fact, one of the very first few pragmatic books that touched on the subject of mindsets & what to do about them.

I have read it, in fact many times, in the early 90s when I first embarked on my relentless search for better understanding of peak performance in both personal & professional arenas.

It is essentially a book about first understanding & then resetting your mindsets - & shifting your paradigms. The author (a British consultant) shares a gamut of practical strategies on how to work with & to reset them. Like cancer, mindsets, especially the dogmatic ones, if not removed &/or resetted, can kill you - to be more prescise, your personal as well as professional productivity!

It is very well written, in crisp & concise language - quite a brilliant piece of work, - & packed with interesting ideas (especially the Ideas into Action & The Leading Edge chapters, with the author's proprietary AGISA Model) as well as excellent anecdotes. The author does not bombard you with fancy theories. He is very straight-forward. There are also many fun exercises (especially the perplexing optical illusions) to do, too. In fact, they really jog you...so you can reset your mindset!

Other interesting books in the same genre include The Business of Paradigms &/or Future Edge by Joel Arthur Barker. Please refer to my listmania "Pragmatic Mindgear for Business Professionals."

Full of errors.......2001-05-10

I've been a travel agent and travel agency owner for more than a decade, and so started reading this book with a great deal of interest.

I hadn't even finished the first page before I fell off my chair with astonishment at the errors the author was perpetrating - 'a consolidation ticket is normally valid for a year and fully flexible'. This is completely wrong - consolidated/discounted tickets are always highly restricted.

I read on to page two. And major mistake two. 'A good travel agent can often save you more by exploiting IATA fare construction rules allowing you to fly up to 25% more miles between two points either free or for a small surcharge'. Again, dead wrong.

In more than ten years as a travel agent, I have never ever issued a single mileage based fare (such as the author advocates in the preceding paragraph). These days, with most fares being 'route based' rather than 'mileage based' it is exceeding rare to find such fares at good values.

Other parts of the book (which claims a 2000 publication date) are curiously out of date, probably because they have been culled from the author's newspaper columns over many years - for example, 'wait for the new generation of featherweight PCN digital mobiles, allowing people to call you wherever you are.' Excuse me, but featherweight (whatever that means) digital phones have been out there for quite a few years already....

All in all, an extremely disappointing book, full of errors and light on real value. If you're looking for a book like this, I'd recommend either the currently out of print 'Airline Passenger's Guerrilla Handbook' by George Brown or 'Fly cheap!' by Kelly Monaghan.

A Must Read for Women Travelers.......2000-08-26

If you are a woman traveling alone, do not leave home without the tips Collis offers along with all the other DOS and DONTS. You'll be shocked at all the do's you don't do, and all the don'ts you do. Learn where and what not to eat for happy travel. Look at hotels other women have chosen and get tips for safety, security and peace. Really.

Excellent layperson's guide for estate property management.......1998-07-20

The task of managing estate property for loved ones who can no longer live alone or for those who have recently passed on can be daunting for estate trustees and surviving spouses alike, but to the rescue comes "What's Left? Who's Left?", a practical, complete guide that can help organize the process.

Written by Teresa Pedicino, a layperson who encountered many of the scenarios discussed in the book in her own life, "What's Left? Who's Left?" is an easy-to-understand manual on fiscal and ethical responsibility that is sure to be a godsend to many who cannot afford - or trust - the small amount of professionals whose million-dollar words do little to help ease the fears of the unaccustomed.

Some of the subjects Pedicino covers are: wills and probate, trusts, property ownership and transfer, investment brokers and brokerage accounts, hiring an attorney and tax preparation. As well: social security, Medicare and Medicaid, orphaned children and estat! e planning.

In addition to this advice comes the inclusion of 45 tear-out record worksheets, which round out this book's comprehensive presentation. A sampling: safe deposit box inventory record, financial accounts basis and transfer record, mortgage or rent payment record, funeral and related expense record, and estate summary.

"What's Left? Who's Left?" is a great starting point for anyone new to the complicated game of overseeing the legal and financial affairs of someone else.

A necessary reference guide........2003-06-05

How would you hendle the death of a loved one? For me, until I read this book, I wouldn't have had a clue! I think this book makes sense for anyone who is going through the financial transition that death brings to survivors but also to anyone who wants to be prepared for the event. Think about it...we will all eventually have to face this, why not be prepared? This book covers more details than I would have thought of, and I work in the financial industry. I think a major plus to this book is that is gives definitions, addresses, phone numbers, web addresses, etc... of all the things and places you will need to know about. I would highly recommed this publication.

A necessary Guide for survivors ........2003-05-17

If your loved dies suddenly or you know its coming this is the essential book to read about handing the situation.

A compact guide on what to do when and how. It brings together in one easy to read and understand format the information you will need immediately after a death and later on.

This is a book to have on hand as you would have a dictionary.

When my mother died I found it was dificult to get the information I needed. Laywers can be very expensive. If I had this book it would have saved my time and money.

Practical.......2003-03-17

Although the book origionally seemed small for the price I discovered that it had a lot of information. It covered everything from how to handle my husband's car lease to estate processing and identity theft. It was also well written and had a easy to follow format.
