Illustrating this proposition, twelve authorities draw a general portrait of American military intervention since the end of the cold war by examining specific interventions: Bosnia, Lebanon, Somalia, Afghanistan, Panama, Haiti, the Gulf War, and South Korea. In the process, this book focuses on the great complexity involved when deciding to enter a conflict; the almost universal circumvention of congressional authority; the ineffectualness of "pinprick" air strikes; and the essentially ad hoc nature of military deployment since the cold war.

The New American Interventionism marks the paradox of America's being the sole remaining "superpower" but unable to influence minor powers without the use of force. Exploring these and other questions, the book also speculates on the future characteristics of American intervention.

This book focuses on the issue of industrialization, and the problems of debt and inequality. It examines the theories behind ways of achieving industrialization, and uses two major case studies - South Korea and Brazil - to illustrate two different theoretical approaches - market theories and structuralist theories. The book starts by presenting detailed case studies of the process of industrialization in Brazil and South Korea, from the Second World War to the 1980s. This is followed by an analysis of the contexts and issues arising from the two cases. The authors look at how Brazil and South Korea fit into the international industrial economy; what linkages exist between the debt problem and industrialization, and which technology strategies have been adopted in practice. In the light of the above case studies and issues, the last part of the book examines the ways in which different theories of development shed light on the possible paths to industrialization pursued by developing countries.

Very useful guide to getting started in business........1999-12-29

As someone with no experience in launching a business, this book has been very useful in explaining the different options (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, etc.) and the distinct advantages for each. The author admits a bias in favor of forming a corporation over the other business structures, as is alluded to in the title. He does justice to each business type, and follows with how-tos in everything from choosing a name, issuing stock, raising capital, dealing with lawyers, preparing contracts, leases, hiring and employment laws, insurance, trademarks and taxes. Although I've heard some discontent with the detail covering sole proprietorship, I found the book an overall excellent introduction into starting a business, and an eye-opener on all the details involved. The Illinois-specific information is very helpful as well. For anyone with limited business experience thinking about striking out on his or her own, I recommend this as a good tool to start with.

Well organized and an essential guide for getting started........1998-02-10

This is a well organized book that covers just about everything you need to know to get started. You'll still have to do a lot of work on your own, but it tells you what to expect, how to find the info, and what to do to make sure you're covered legally. Sample documents and forms are also shown to help you in preparing your own or to be ready for filling out government forms. Given the price of the book, I feel the value of information in the book is a steal. It rates a 9 only because I didn't find the chapter on taxes to be as complete as I had hoped. There is a lot of good info on taxes but it's a little weak on some of the details.

I'm with the other reviewers of this great book. I love to cook, but don't have the time or patience to follow laborious time consuming recipes anymore.

This cookbook has a range of recipes that not only present innovative pairings of a few good ingredients; the recipes and course sections also have a "variations" section that give ideas for improvising with ingredients you have on hand.

My copy is battered and food impaired with lots of notes on it. I'm really surprised how few people are onto this good thing. I would buy another copy if I had too.

I just wish there were a cookbook this good for a celiac/veganish/cholestral diet, as my husband is on a restricted diet. although many recipes in this book are useful, I can't find a reference this good for that kind of thing.

I have over 120 cookbooks and this is the best!!!!! This is the one cookbook I keep coming back to. I have honestly tried almost every recipe in the book, and so far everything has been very, very good and very, very easy to make. My only sadness about this book is that it is now out of print and I have to buy a used copy to replace my first one which is falling apart at the seams.

Without a doubt, this book delivers. Easy, tasty food from the very best chefs. Try the Roasted Peppers, Potatoes and Onions or any of the Pork recipes.

A real favorite. In fact, I find myself going back to this over and over again, and am never disappointed.

A lifesaver - quick, elegant recipes for last minute company.......1997-09-02

It may never rate as a "classic" cookbook, but over the last 5 years this slim tome has pulled me out of more than one last minute menu scrapes. Recipes like Arrosto di Maile all'Alloro (Pork with Bay Leaves) and Dried Apricots baked with Vanilla set the tone - non-labor intesive recipes with a short list of ingredients -- the emphasis being on the quality of meat, produce & spices rather than fancy techniques or sauces. Barbara Kafka's classic 500 degree roasted chicken and much maligned (but delicious) microwave risotto are by themselves worth the cost of this book!
