Book Description
This text compares the corporate governance structures of the US quoted company and its European equivalent and the role which employees as non-shareholding stakeholders hold within those structures. It focuses on the incidents of ownership normally exercised by stakeholders and raises questions regarding different responses to the issue of mandated labour market regulation on both sides of the Atlantic.

This book is a guide for VCs, entrepreneurs, and executives alike examining the best ways to secure funding for health care ventures and the legal and financial issues involved. Covering a wide array of topics ranging from the types of funding available for health care companies to the regulations that affect them, these authorities offer practical and adaptable strategies for raising the right amount and type of capital for any health care venture. Readers will learn how VCs evaluate health care investments, how CEOs approach fundraising, and how attorneys can ensure compliance at all stages of the process. Raising Capital for Health Care Companies will provide indispensable new insights to all parties involved in getting health care investments off the ground. About Inside the Minds: Inside the Minds provides readers with proven business intelligence from C-Level executives (Chairman, CEO, CFO, CMO, Partner) from the world's most respected companies nationwide, rather than third-party accounts from unknown authors and analysts. Each chapter is comparable to an essay/thought leadership piece and is a future-oriented look at where an industry, profession or topic is headed and the most important issues for the future. Through an exhaustive selection process, each author was hand-picked by the Inside the Minds editorial board to author a chapter for this book.
Book Description
From local trial courts to the United States Supreme Court, judges' decisions affect the fates of individual litigants and the fate of the nation as a whole. Scholars have long discussed and debated explanations of judicial behavior. This book examines the major issues in the debates over how best to understand judicial behavior and assesses what we actually know about how judges decide cases. It concludes that we are far from understanding why judges choose the positions they take in court.
Lawrence Baum considers three issues in examining judicial behavior. First, the author considers the balance between the judges' interest in the outcome of particular cases and their interest in other goals such as personal popularity and lighter workloads. Second, Baum considers the relative importance of good law and good policy as bases for judges' choices. Finally Baum looks at the extent to which judges act strategically, choosing their own positions after taking into account the positions that their fellow judges and other policy makers might adopt. Baum argues that the evidence on each of these issues is inconclusive and that there remains considerable room for debate about the sources of judges' decisions. Baum concludes that this lack of resolution is not the result of weaknesses in the scholarship but from the difficulty in explaining human behavior. He makes a plea for diversity in research.
This book will be of interest to political scientists and scholars in law and courts as well as attorneys who are interested in understanding judges as decision makers and who want to understand what we can learn from scholarly research about judicial behavior.
Lawrence Baum is Professor of Political Science, Ohio State University.

From the supplier: The National Assn of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) refuses to accredit the Vermont insurance department because of a dispute over the regulation of alternative risk financing vehicles such as risk retention groups (RRGs) and purchasing groups (PGs). The NAIC should recognize that the alternative market is a major sector of the insurance industry and alter its accreditation program. RRGs and PGs require specialized regulation, and the NAIC should allow states in which RRGs and PGs are domiciled to certify alternative market regulatory specialists to oversee alternative insurance vehicles.

Customer Reviews:
Definitely a useful little book.......2001-10-17
I gave this book 4 stars because, while it was refreshing to read and I definitely learned quite a bit, it wasn't a paradigm-shifting book, which is what I am increasingly moving towards for my 5 star books.
I absolutely loved this book because it is full of tons of useful stuff. The real beauty of the book is its simplicity, written in true "little book" form. I really like these books as they are quick reads by cutting through 90% of the "BS".
They key to getting long-term value out of a book like this is to highlight the quotes you love and integrate them into your daily life. Practice what you read essentially.
Whether you like it or not you are selling everyday. You are selling yourself regardless of what you do for a living. You sell yourself to your family, friends, co-workers, etc. You are creating an image in that person's mind of what they associate you with (pain or pleasure).
Having worked in research I found a tough thing for me was sales (my sales force was clueless.) I used some of the antidotes in the book and started seeing improvements in my results. Another insightful book on sales is How to be a Rainmaker, by Jeffrey Fox.
Simply, a marvelous "little book.".......1999-02-19
I absolutely loved this book. Working in one of the most competitive industries out there, I am always searching for the best written on the subject of selling. I found Brian Tracy's maxims and thoughts on selling to be incredibly refreshing. The real beauty of the book is its simplicity, written in true "little book" form. We write a different quote from it on our office board every morning to "fire us up!" Definitely a book to read every time you need a little inspiration. I know I do!

Customer Reviews:
LOVE THIS COOKBOOK - .......2007-10-05
I really like Sandra Lee on TV and have watched her make super meals for some time.....I however just purchased all of her cookbooks in the last year and anxiously await all of the new ones that are coming in the next few months. I am a super busy woman & really like her approach to all of the different cultures. We travel often and I pull these out & re-visit our memories with Sandra's easy recipes. Thanks for these....millions adore her & I know why.
What good is it if you can't get the ingredients.......2007-09-30
I thought the recipes sounded wonderful, however I was very disappointed that a large portion required some pre-cooking either on the stove or in the oven. Not quite what I had in mind. I bought this to carry us over during a kitchen renovation, but apparently I need a stovetop and oven. Rather false advertising.
Also, the vast majority of the recipes are supposed to cook much less than 8 hours. If you're looking for something to make while you're at work, this ain't it!
But, the biggest issue I had with this is that for over half the recipes there is always one ingredient that I can't find. The Knorr seasoning packets she requires are apparently so unpopular that no grocery stores in my area carry them. I even did web searches and they are either unavailable, or you have to buy 12 at a time. That's a big commitment to try something.
Waste of money.
Practical Semi-Homemade.......2007-07-03
Sandra Lee makes easy to prepare but taste-tempting meals. I can hardly wait to try almost all of these recipes. I do not like to spend all day in the kitchen and when I can start out with something that only needs to be embellished, that is my kind of food. I am delighted with this book.

Sandra Lee Semi Homemade Slow Cooker Recipes.......2007-06-28
This cook book is great. The recipes are quick and they taste great. I just spent a whole week cooking her recipes and loved every minute. These recipes get you out of the kitchen fast. I am also giving these recipes to my daughter who is getting married in a few weeks. They are easy for working moms,by the time you get home your dinner is ready for you.
Crock Pot cooking is so easy.......2007-05-23
I love Sandra Lee and her crock pot cookbook is easy to use and again all the recipes use stuff that you already might have on hand. You basically just have to add the meat and vegetables.
Book Description
Wouldn't it be nice if dinner could be ready when you are? It can be with a slow cooker and one of the 120 delicious recipes from Semi-Homemade Slow Cooking 2.
