Good tips, but too many errors!.......2006-07-24
This book is a good crash course with a lot of helpful tips and rules to remember, BUT when it comes to examples or practice test, author makes a lot of mistakes. What's more, author does not explain well why this answers better over others. And most of the time, when she tries to explain, she basically says "it's right - just because it is right!" Does it make sense? No? Well, get used to this kind of explanations because this is author's tactic.
Preparing for the GAMT.......2004-12-08
After many years in the workforce, I decided to pursue a graduate degree. The most significant hurdle was the GMAT. Writing and language are strengths for me, but for the past 18 years, I've let computers take care of quantitative issues. So, in short order I had to become reacquainted with math concepts long forgotten, and learn how to take a CAT exam and score reasonably well. All of my research led me to one conclusion: it takes more than one study guide to adequately prepare for the GMAT. The course I followed, with an evaluation of each guide, is outlined in the following paragraphs.
For my math review, I selected Peterson's Math Review for GRE, GMAT, and MCAT, 2nd edition. There have been some comments about errors in previous editions, but I found this guide quite helpful, and an excellent refresher on math topics I have not seen in years, but need to know for the GMAT. 4 out of 5.
The GMAT Advantage with Professor Dave was selected because of its readability and the questions. The material is challenging, and the more difficult questions in each category provide a good idea of the difficult questions faced on the GMAT. The verbal chapters are very strong and have excellent examples. The math problems are also very good, but the text assumes that the reader already is familiar with most math topics. This is why I recommend Peterson's MAth Review to compliment this guide. Overall 4 out of 5, with a solid 5 for the verbal sections.
The Official Guide for GMAT is the best resource for practice questions. 1400 questions are in this guide, and the last 1/3 in each section represent some difficult concepts that will be tested. This book gets the reader prepared for the real questions that will be seen on the exam. In addition, the question writers provide excellent explanations for the solutions, and reveal some elegantly simple ways to solve math problems that at first appear to be very labor intensive. 4 out of 5. (Also, be sure to take the 2 free CAT tests available online from GMAC. These prepare the user well for the GMAT experience.)
Finally, I also used the Princeton Review Crash Course for GMAT. I used this as a final review and to gain some additional pointers and time savers. While brief, this book does provide excellent quick reference tips for all question types that will be seen on the test. The idiom list and formulas are worth the price alone. 4 out of 5.
I prepared over an 8 week period, with at least 1 hour of review per day, and more often it was 2 to 4 hours. Regular, consistent preparation, using different references that fit your style of learning will prepare you for this rigorous test. Prepare thoroughly with relentless repetition, and take the test. After 18 years out of school, I scored a 690.
Good luck.
Good idea, bad implementation; book is full of errors.......2001-09-15
This book is a good idea, and offers a good set of overall strategies for doing well on the GMAT, but it is full of errors, particularly in the math sections. For example, the formula that it gives for calculating the number of permutations of a set of objects (which it strongly suggests that you memorize!) is just plain incorrect. There are also errors in a number of the sample math problems; for example, in a sample problem concerning standard deviations, the demonstration of solving the problem starts off by saying "since you know that there are 100 fish...", but nowhere was that stated in the problem.
If you're a math whiz already, and can spot and work around these errors, this is a great book for giving you an overall test strategy. If you're trying to learn the math from this book, though, beware... If it weren't for the math errors, I would give this book 4 or 5 stars; however, such errors in a test prep book are unforgiveable.
Wonderful summary.......2001-08-27
This is the most succinct book written on GMAT but you can find here everything to grade high. Perfectly complement the Kaplan, Baron's and ETS softwares. I recommend it without hesitation. Real value for money.
Good book for quick, last minute preparation.......2001-07-23
If you are running out of time to prepare for your GMAT, this book is really good.
It tells you what general types of questions there are and the best way to answer them under a time constraint. (Most of us probably can get it right, but we may not do that well when the time is against us..)
Also includes general reminders for math and english which we may have forgetten since high school. (E.g., Use singular verb for 'The number of' but plural verb for 'A number of'; prime numbers, factoring..)

John C. Maxwell offers lively stories about the foibles and successes of Lee Iacocca, Abraham Lincoln, Princess Diana, and Elizabeth Dole in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Readers can expect a well-crafted discussion that emphasizes the core attitudes and visions of leadership. Maxwell uses the same tell-it-like-it-is approach that he honed in the bestselling Developing the Leader Within You. For instance, when explaining "The Law of Influence," Maxwell states that "job titles don't have much value when it comes to leading. True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed or assigned. It comes only from influence and that can't be mandated." Even after Princess Diana was stripped of her title, Maxwell says she was still able to lead a global effort toward banning land mines because of her sophisticated ability to influence others.
If readers are looking for a step-by-step formula, Maxwell's list of "laws" will probably seem too chatty and anecdote driven. There are no specific tips on what readers can do during the next workday to help them become stronger leaders. On the other hand, Maxwell's background as a pastor gives him an inspirational voice and a spiritual context to leadership that many business and church leaders appreciate. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
What would happen if a top expert with more than thirty years of leadership experience were willing to distill everything he had learned about leadership into a handful of life-changing principles just for you? It would change your life.
John C. Maxwell has done exactly that in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. He has combined insights learned from his thirty-plus years of leadership successes and mistakes with observations from the worlds of business, politics, sports, religion, and military conflict. The result is a revealing study of leadership delivered as only a communicator like Maxwell can.

Maxwell Book.......2007-10-20
Great book, great condition! I was lucky to find this book at this price. I will shop here again.
Powerful.......2007-10-17
This is a powerful book. I cannot say enough about John Maxwell's ability to put things into perspective. This has helped me to understand why some of my managers are struggling and what to look for in hiring new ones.
Ideas are good, but nothing revolutionary.......2007-10-10
The workbook seems to be a "Readers Digest" version of the original book. While the questions can be thought-provoking, the stories are a bit predictable and common.
The best books on Leadership.......2007-08-26
John Maxwell is the world's best writer and speaker on leadership. I've seen him speak several times and read most of his boos. This workbook is a great companion book to his award winning book of the same name. I've recommended The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership to almost every one of my mentor clients and if you are a leader, or if you have an interest in becoming a great leader, this is the place to start.
Also see the John Maxwell Leadership Study Bible as a great reference on leadership with Biblical examples.
Great reference material.......2007-08-01
I am in Grad school and have cited this work several times since it arrived and in great shape. THANKS!

A must-have read!!!!.......2004-04-26
I've listened to some videos of John C. Maxwell's "Laws of Leadership" series a few years ago and now I bought this book based on it. It's a great way to mix history with Christian leadership and as a college history major, I found this book useful! I will be looking into John C. Maxwell's book series soon.
ARE YOU A LEADER?..... THEN YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!.......2003-01-06
This was an excellant book that dove deeper into John Maxwell's classic, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. It's presented similar to John's 21 Laws where each chapter is broken down into an individual Law, but James Garlow gives specific examples of how Great Leaders in History have succeeded by following these laws or have failed because they abused the laws of leadership. John Garlow's writing is clear and to the point and this book is definately worth the price. Your learning from a leader who has been following and studing with John Maxwell personally for the past fifteen years! This book is a MUST READ for anyone who wants to become a better leader/CEO, build an organization, and understand John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership more in depth. BUY IT TODAY! You can't afford not to.
EXCELLENT MARRIAGE OF HISTORY & CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP LESSONS.......2002-12-15
I am a leadership trainer and give over 200 programs per year. My leadership library is extensive and varied. Most of the new leadership books are just "love song" books - they are saying the same thing in a different way. In this book, the messages are the same, but the writing methodology is fresh and different.
James has accomplished an intriguing and "page turner" leadership lessons book by including detailed historic examples of each of Maxwell's 21!

Great book!.......2007-09-26
This is a revised edition of the first book I ever read on leadership. It is an excellent book for new leaders and those who have been in management for awhile but who need a little inspiration. The law of the lid (chapter one) is absolutely true!

: Is the leadership a job or an art by itself?.......2005-11-03
If you are not a true experienced leader in your area, it will be become a hard task to try to be authentic simply because you are taking side over outer experiences and not from your own; talk about leadership without being it is equal to be a leadership reporter. There are very clever examples that reaffirm this statement: Consider for example: The astonishing and enriched life of Lawrence of Arabia, An actor prepares of Stanilawski, The famous exercises guide by Charles Atlas in the Fifties, or Joseph Campbell talking about myth. If you have the experience you do not need the blind faith to follow indications as a Decalogue; the letter by itself helps but it is never enough.
Any apprenticeship is a cycle; you make a journey from the University texts and leap from the theory to the daily practice: experience which implies deal, negotiate and face countless conflicts where the ideal conditions never appear. The expected effectiveness from your work environment demands from you the continuous enhancement, personal and professional. Remember the wisdom words of Mishima: "To know and not doing is still not knowing."
Along its captivating reading, you will engage with the easy going analysis around those little things that occur around us, that constitute motive of attention. The case of Diana Princess and Mother Teresa is a relevant testimony.
If you are deeply engaged with this always passionate and fascinating subject, and you are absolutely persuaded you want to be in ascending profile inside your enterprise, go for this book. Its singular format is far to be a formal learning book; consider it a journey notebook.
GREAT OVERVIEW OF LEADERSHIP FOR GROWTH.......2004-09-13
There are many books written every year on leadership, and they all tend to have the same weakness: They focus on just part of the problem. THE 21 IRREFUTABLE LAWS OF LEADERSHIP is a valuable exception because it looks at leadership in both companies and nonprofits at the same time, drawing on appropriate lessons from both. What I particularly liked was how he provided examples of how to overcome bad sistuations as well as how to grow faster from good ones. This clearly is the most encyclopedic approach to the subject of leadership that I have had the pleasure to read. The lessons seemed right to me based on my many years of studying what makes the most successful leaders have the best results. For anyone who is a leader or aspires to be one, THE 21 IRREFUTABLE LAWS OF LEADERSHIP will be very valuable. Then you can expand your reading to get more detail in the areas where you need the most help. If you follow the principles of this book, you will avoid most of the problems that stall progress in organizations. Good luck to you!
