Book Description

The lists range from "Favorite Countries of US Investors" and "Your Risk of Being Audited by the IRS" to "America's Fastest-Growing Companies" and "Great States to Start a Business In," 185 lists in all. Also included are the lists of twenty guest contributors. A perfect browsing book and a wonderful gift.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars He was probably just funning us.......1999-09-10

Some amusing stuff, marred by contributor William E. Simon's neanderthal offerings, e.g., "multiculturalism" as one of the "Most Destructive Ideas in Public Life" along with "No-fault divorce" and "The welfare state," etc. His list of "God's Greatest Gifts to Mankind" includes Jesus Christ, heaven, the USA and the Bible, no kidding.

Initially I thought that Rukeyser had lost a few I.Q. points, but then I realized that he did include "the worst" in the title. Sometimes the way to really embarrass people is to just quote them.

From the supplier: Laws affecting digital signatures have been either proposed or passed in the US and Europe. In the US, two bills have been proposed in Congress, namely, HR 2937 which would make electronic transmissions a legal alternative to paper-based transactions and HR 2991 which will require the use of digital signatures by federal agencies. In Europe, a digital signature bill is expected to be approved in Belgium by the end of 1998 while a Digital Signature has been proposed in Denmark.

              Book Description

In the past six years, more than 55 countries have begun adopting UNCITRAL's (United National Commission on International Trade Law) Model Laws of 1999 and 2001 regarding the use and validity of e-signatures. Dozens of pieces of legislation and legislative proposals now exist around the world
on the subject of e-signatures. While the model laws may look the same on paper, in practice they can vary widely. Finally, you can be certain that your clients are in compliance when using digital signatures.

The Center for International Legal Studies, in cooperation with UNCITRAL, has gathered experts in over 25 jurisdictions to analyze the impact of these standards in their respective domestic e-commerce regimes. These experts show how the Model Laws are actually implemented today in each of these
countries. Now you can have on-the-ground feedback about how UNCITRAL's Uniform Rules on Electronic Signatures, the Model Law on Electronic Commerce 1996, and the Model Law on Electronic Signatures 2001 are being implemented.

              A must have reference for:
Any lawyer working on a business transaction or contract using the Internet to exchange forms
              Government Lawyers
              Intellectual Property Lawyers

              Topics covered include:
Application and enforceability of electronic transactions
Defining key terms, including 'writing,' 'signature,' and 'original' documents
              Legal recognition of data messages
              Formation of contracts
              Attribution of data messages
              Retention of data messages
              Trustworthiness of e-signature
              Electronic Commerce

              Analyzes the global impact of:
UNCITRAL's Uniform Rules on Electronic Signatures
Model Law on Electronic Commerce 1996
Model Law on Electronic Signatures 2001

                      Book Description

Harvesting the Dream is the rare story of a large and successful business that remains family owned and continues to operate on the basis of professional and personal integrity. You’ll follow the Trinchero family from their common origins in a New York flooded with immigrant families like themselves, to their uncommon rise to success, to the present business challenges they face in the new Napa Valley. Their story brings the American dream to life–and underscores the reality that hard work and the willingness to defy well-rooted conventions are still the building blocks of business success.

The true story of an immigrant family's rise to prominence and the brand that rewrote the rules of wine

Harvesting the Dream tells the inspirational story of the Trinchero family and its Sutter Home winery, now among America's largest and most successful vintners. More than just a business success story, it's also the tale of an immigrant family's half-century journey to achieve the American Dream. Against all odds, Sutter Home's light and sweet White Zinfandel became America's bestselling wine and a staple at tables across the country. Harvesting the Dream uses the Sutter Home story to teach profound business lessons about the importance of calculated risk and creative thinking.

                      Sutter Home Winery:
By Kate Heyhoe and Stanley Hock

Kate Heyhoe and Stanley Hock have cooperated on a timely rags-to-riches story, one which pays tribute to hardship, hard work and unqualified success. "Genuine, generous, and humble, the Trincheros stand out in glitzy Napa Valley for their philanthropy, world-class employee programs, and long-term community involvement," says publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

The Sutter Home Trinchero family migrated from Italy to New York city for the usual reasons not long after World War II. Little did they realize their reasons for success would take them to far-away California, a continent away. They arrived in the late 1940s and ploughed their fate into the long-dormant Sutter Home winery. They would restore it, and they had the grit and determination to bring it to fruition. At one period it meant living in an unheated motel cabin with outdoor facilities.

By the 1950s the family was producing 52 different wines. Their success was based on strong family discipline, a certain amount of risk-taking and the "fortuitous accident" leading to their creation of the first White Zinfandel, thus the Part II of the book entitled, "Eureka! Liquid Gold and the Blush Rush."

Historians and students will appreciate the seven-page index to this viticultural account of California's colorful past.

Kate Heyhoe is an important pioneer in the field of food. On line since 1994, her earliest Electronic Gourmet Guide gave way to her current Global Gourmet site, (www.GlobalGourmet.com). Her newest books, besides, Harvesting the Dream, are A Chicken in Every Pot, a study of international chicken dishes and Macho Nachos, a worldly look at chip adornment and entertainment fun. She is also author of Cooking with Kids For Dummies.

Stanley Hock is former communications director for the Trinchero Family in Napa Valley. In a 25-year career in California's wine industry, thirteen of these years were spent as director of communications for the Sutter Home Winery. Hock also collaborated with James McNair in the compilation of the Sutter Home Napa Valley Cookbook.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth your money.......2004-11-12

Frequently demonstrably wrong, and regularly claims "facts" that do not seem to occur in any other source, casting serious doubt upon their authenticity. Anyone repeating anything from this book runs a severe risk of perpetuating inaccuracies. For example, the claim in the blurb that "Twenty people literally "drowned in beer" in 1814 when a vat in a London brewery exploded" is simply not true - only eight people died, all when buildings collapsed, and the vat never "exploded", one of the hoops broke and it collapsed.

                      1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.......2003-05-22

This is the most poorly written book I've ever read. It consists of a rambling, incohesive assortment of beer trivia and anecdotes that any beer geek already knows, random literary quotes containing the word "beer" or "ale" (example: "And when I think upon a pot of beer."- Lord Byron), and some eyewitness-type accounts of prehistoric brewing events. Furthermore, Mr. Eames devotes as much or more content to prohibitionist propoganda and factoids than to pro-beer trivia!
I think Mr. Eames and his editor were intoxicated. What a disappointment.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely essential reading.......2000-04-12

If you really want to know ANYTHING about beer and how it relates to those who've consumed it over time, you need this book. Only a fool could pan this work! It's thoroughly researched and insightful. Buy it. Read it. Then drink it in.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Beer Trivia Book.......2000-01-19

I still reference this book monthly as I search for little-known facts about beer and brewing history for our homebrew club newsletter. It was an entertaining read and deserves a spot on any true beer drinkers shelf.

                      1 out of 5 stars Worthless.......1999-12-06

This was the most boring, unimaginal work I have ever read. It was totally sensless.
