              If you're looking for different organizations in your area, look no further than the Encyclopedia of Associations. I was on a mission to find listings of non-profits in the Chicago area and I couldn't find anyone with a comprehensive list until I found this book at Amazon.com. The book is broken down by state and then by city so it is very easy to find what you are looking for. And as an additional bonus, the local chapter of national organizations like the American Heart Assoc. and American Lung Assoc. were also listed. A definite must have!

                      the knowledge and information shared in this book is useful but are too basic ones. plus, i have found two editing mistakes within my first 20 pages reading. on page 243, the abbreviation of "cost per gross rating point" should be read as CPGRP, rather than CGPRP. and on page 271, the second calculation of DM should be DM=$40,000/($30*0.05*0.75)=35,555 pieces, rather than just repeat the same one as above. quite disappointed with the editing quality.

                      If what gets measured, gets managed, this book serves a very useful purpose. Managers, students interested in marketing and potential converts to marketing could do well to read this book. It provides a list of metrics that are very relevant for any number of marketing specific actions. In the process, it helps marketers to be more accountable and transperant and moves the field from the realm of "faith" to one of facts. It covers the whole spectrum from really basic measures to more challenging ones such as lifetime customer value and from product oriented measures to service (retail) to database metrics. Practical guidelines of the relvance of the measure to a context, plus "how-to" guidance are provided. Another key strength of the book is that pitfalls of the measures are discussed as well. This is especially critical, because measurement could lead to unintended consequences. Moreover, companies sometimes face the "the tail wagging the dog" situation with measures managing executives.

                          Ron Karr has brought together a wide range of sales tools focused around getting results. This is not a book about sales philosophy, but "in the trenches and on the street" type of sales strategies and techniques to close deals. I especially like chapter six on the customer interview process. It is really more about the discovery process thru what I call "power questioning" and I share these ideas with sales reps whenever I have the opportunity. Karr's ability to teach the customer interview process is excellent and his sales tools are bound to get results!

                                Shigeo Shingo is an engaging and astute analyst and process owners around the world have learned key lessons from him over the years: the power of souce inspections and mistake proofing, the magic behind single minute changeovers. Thanks to Productivity Inc we now have a convenient single volume set of Shingo's greatest hits. I was able to use this as an introductory text for a lean book club in my biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant with great success. His sayings are sometimes Yoda-like but his ability to explain lean fundamentals using anecdotes and examples helps bring the ideas to life. The editors have provided helpful background text which provides crucial context to the excerpts.
