Solving a Potentially Big Problem.......2005-09-02
I've seen partnerships start up, full of promise and mutual love. I've seen very few last very long. And the breaking up of the partnership has usually been pretty messy. It's a lot like a divorce, where a pre-nuptial would have saved everybody a lot of pain.
This book first sets the stage by describing what can happen. What happens when one of the partners wants to quie, goes through a messy divorce (he's a good partner, but now you're partner with his ex!), or if he is simply disabled (alcohol or Alzheimer's).
The answer, of course, is advance planning. Business Buyout Agreements does a lot of this planning for you. It describes the situation, what should be included, all the things that you need to think about. In fact, it describes more situations than you are ever likely to think about in advance.
The book includes a CD-ROM which has a worksheet and a buyout agreement that has been successfully used by dozens if not hundreds of companies.

Chip R. Bell and Heather Shea take a crack at a much overlooked business skill: partnering. While many management gurus espouse the growing importance of partnerships and alliances to modern business, advice on how to actually implement and manage these relationships is much harder to find. Dance Lessons uses simple, emotional language in mapping out guidelines for successful partnering. These guidelines tend more toward general, interpersonal relationships than specific business cases. In fact, much of the book’s content could be re-titled “How to Have a Successful Marriage” without changing so much as one word. Despite this lack of hard business focus, we...recommend this book on the strength of the intelligent exercises that the authors suggest for use in each stage of the partnering process. While Dance Lessons might be light on the numbers and factual examples that business readers have come to expect, the passion that the authors bring to the subject will leave you highly conscious of the critical, but often neglected, personal aspects of business partnerships.

Most of us are unaware of the ways in which music, writing and drawing can unveil the secrets we have hidden inside ourselves. This book will help even the most "creatively challenged" (such as myself) unleash long-untapped resources within. As Jorge Luis Borges (Argentina's greatest writer) wrote about the problem of tango: "The tango can be debated, and we have debates over it, but it still guards, as does all that is truthful, a secret."

Not about Tango at all.......2001-10-23
This is a very interesting book if you need to develop a personal philosophy and i would guess writing it did Katherine Carol a pile of good.It can be a bit cheesy and most of the material has been used many times by psychologists. The format is good.
My beef is that she used the word Tango. Sometimes she uses the analogy of the dance but always so obliquely that you wonder why she bothered. It would certainly fox a few readers who had never danced Tango. As an avid Tanguero, I had hoped this book might widen my insight into the dance. Sadly, not a word. There is nothing in the book that would interest anyone who has arrived at it by a trawl through Tango book references. Not a fraud. A misnomer

I have gone through the process of starting a new venture and I can't think of anything important that isn't covered by Andy Freire's book. He has managed to put together a concise yet complete perspective on entrepreneurship in emerging markets.
I am about to launch a new business, and "Pasion por Emprender" has been a great review of the issues I will soon face again. Even from my recent MBA years, I don't recall a better book for someone who is about to start a new company.
Don't expect to get a checklist of things to consider in a start up, but rather something much more valuable; the experience and advise of one of Latin America's most successful entrepreneurs.

And I thought the only thing you could cook on a plank was fish or steak! This book has everything from appetizers to veggies to dessert! Cook it all on the grill!
Some of the recipes are more involved than I would want to do on a plank. I like the plank for simplicity, and this book goes beyond that. But if you love the plank and you love the BBQ, you'll love this book!
The Sticks & Stones Cookbook.......2003-01-31
This cookbook has shown me a whole new way of grilling. I'd never planked before and this cookbook told me how and let me know what to expect. Grilling and smoking at the same time - what great flavor and simple to do. You just have to make sure your planks are well soaked as the instructions point out.
I've used recipes from this book to entertain friends and has it ever made me look good. Several have even gone out and purchased the book.
This book proves you don't have to eat out to have fabulous meals.

Very disappointed. The 2 lead recipes used in the TV cooking demo as well as in the book are very good. That's it. Many ingredients are either difficult to find or unobtainable which makes some recipes practically useless, if you want to follow it for the correct results. Other recipes include the use of store-bought BBQ sauces, which can alter the taste completely, depending on what brand used. BBQ sauce recipes should have been included. Certainly not worth [the money spent on it]! Don't waste your money. Go to the BBQ or Food.tv websites for not only free, but much better results.
Salmon recipe on cover is to-die-for!.......1999-11-10
Everyone who loves salmon or who loves to barbecue needs to read this book; it's amazing what a wood plank can do to a fish! We weren't sure at first if Reader was nuts, or a genius. He's a genius! We didn't have exactly what we needed (a cedar plank instead of alder, a Copper River Coho instead of Chinook), but the results were incredibly delicious! The combination of the wood smoke and the marinade ingredients made for an exotic, but simple and fast way to prepare an entire fish. Four of us did our best to devour a 10+ lb fish in one sitting. We didn't succeed, but had a good time trying.
We are eager to try other recipes, but are at the wood-gathering stage. We wish the book had a guide to different woods and the foods they work well with so we'd feel more comfortable with our own experimenting (cooking this way is expensive if you have to go to the lumber yard for wood). We live near orchard country and have access to a variety of fruit woods in addition to apple, and aren't too far from both coastal and interior forests where different types of trees grow.
Folks who are lucky enough to figure out what to do with a few salmon every year need to try this cooking method.
Absolutely Fantastic, Unbelievable, The Best.......1999-08-17
It is incredible. I am so proud to have been able to write this book. It was definitly a lot of fun to put together. Recipes that are simple and delicious. The most difficult thing about my book is that you must seach for the planks, vines, stone slabs, pine needles, leaves etc. But that is actually a lot of fun. And once you begin to creat the recipes it truly is a joy to make and even more to eat. I hope that those who adventure into buying Sticks and Stones truly enjoy the recipes.
