excellent companion volume.......2007-06-13
Do not be confused. This book is not Robert's Rules of Order (RROO). It is a companion volume designed to explain RROO. It is, however, a very good companion which I found to be very easy to understand and contained some very up-to-date information like how to vote by e-mail.
It has some other nice features like scripts to use in meetings. However, it lacks a simple table of motions, something that is included in most versions of RROO.
Unfortunately, the most up-to-date official version of RROO (the Newly Revised, 10th edition) is a huge book compared to the original volume that Mr. Robert wrote in 1876 as a pocket guide. To me, the large size makes the newest edition virtually useless. If you are interested in parliamentary procedure for a PTO, club, or church business meetings, you are also unlikely to need the most recent edition.
The last edition that Robert himself was personally involved in before his death was the 1915 Revised edition (not to be confused with the Newly Revised versions). This was the official version for many decades and I think is still good enough for most users. I purchased a paperback re-print of this edition from 1970 which also added a new preface by Robert's grandson.
Some supposedly modern editions of RROO are really just re-writes of the original 1876 version. I assume that as the original book is so old, it has long run out of copyright, so anybody can publish their own RROO. This may be a good thing as people looking for a more slimmed-down book may be happier with a modernized version of Robert's original pocket version. However, the 1915 edition, while expanded significantly over the original, is not so huge and I think a reasonable compromise.
So, to make a long story short. I would recommend purchasing some official version of RROO (again, I like the 1915 edition) along with Webster's book.
Essential reading material!.......2007-05-17
I accepted a position as Board Administrator in a charity organization in Seoul, South Korea. Prior to that, I had heard about Robert's Rules of Order, but had never used the book as a reference. In my time as a Board Administrator, I referred to this book often for a proposed amendment to our Constitution and By-Laws, procedures for notifying members of the Annual General Meeting, and to clarify the motion-making procedure for Board members. Robert McConnell Productions uses sample scripts to give readers can get a sense for how to conduct a board meeting (Chapter 2, "A Business Meeting in Action"), how to debate a motion (Chapter 4, "Rules of Debate"), and how to vote (Chapter 5, "Ways the Vote Can be Taken"). I passed my copy to the next Board Administrator and just ordered a new copy for myself. Board members have a significant advantage in Board negotiations if they are intimately familiar with RRO.
Great for beginners and experts alike!.......2001-03-19
This book is great for people of all ages and experience levels! It combines the information from Robert's Rules of Order with the author's own tips to deliver one of the world's best reference materials. It presensts strategies for using each motion and gives examples that make writing a meeting script much easier!...
Robert's Rules of Order Simplified and Applied.......2000-04-04
I used this book extensively this year. It is extremely easy to use and follow. When my other copy and edition failed me, this edition was always useful. The index in the back makes it very easy to find exactly what point of order you are looking for. Also, the book gives real life, present day examples. I highly recommend this version of an old standby.

Doesn't Include Old Article 9.......2006-03-15
Most classes (such as Secured Transactions) that use this class find the Old Article 9 language useful. This abridged version does not contain that language, and therefore is less useful than it could be. They wanted to save weight, and save the page count, but they cut something that would be quite useful!
Older Edition is just as good.......2006-03-08
Don't bother getting the new edition, an older edition is just as good, as long as it's after 2001.

Secrets of a Leadership Coach.......2005-04-11
This is a terrible product. The registration process is complicated and cumbersome. After the product is finally opened the video is limited to a 1 inch by 1 inch presentation. I wonder if Marshall Goldsmith knows the quality of this product is far below the quality of his skills and knowledge?
And once it is opened...it cannot be returned...a waste of money.

Book Description
Revised and updated, a compact guide to the beverage that keeps us running.
A freshly updated edition of the best introduction to one of the world's most popular products, The Coffee Book is jammed full of facts, figures, cartoons, and commentary covering coffee from its first use in Ethiopia in the sixth century to the rise of Starbucks and the emergence of Fair Trade coffee in the twenty-first. The book explores the process of cultivation, harvesting, and roasting from bean to cup; surveys the social history of café society from the first coffeehouses in Constantinople to beatnik havens in Berkeley and Greenwich Village; and tells the dramatic tale of high-stakes international trade and speculation for a product that can make or break entire national economies. It also examines the industry's major players, revealing how they have systematically reduced the quality of the bean and turned a much-loved product into a commodity and lifestyle accoutrement, ruining the lives of millions of farmers around the world in the process.
Finally, The Coffee Book, hailed as a Best Business Book by Library Journal when it was first published, considers the exploitation of labor and damage to the environment that mass cultivation causes, and explores the growing "conscious coffee" market and Fair Trade movement.

Life's little pleasures!.......2006-06-02
The coffee can cover attracted my attention, as did the handy take-to-cafe dimensions of The Coffee Book, plus I was pleasantly surprised by the contents. Not your usual non-fiction reader, the ample visuals helped hold my highly caffeinated short attention span. Learn more about your beloved legal stimulant and enjoy it even more!
Fascinating Book on History of Coffee.......2006-05-30
Fascinating book on the history of coffee, well written and style that flows makes the stories easy to follow . You find yourself winding through time and all the crazy social ramifications coffee has had on a variety of cultures - including European and American. Highly recommend for coffee drinkers curious to know how the cup of coffee they drink and today's coffee houses came into being.
The Coffee Book: Anatomy of an Industry from Crop to the Last Drop, Revised and Updated Edition.......2006-05-24
This is a must read for anyone who works with or loves drinking coffee. If you're looking for a crash course in the history, economics behind or current politics of the coffee industry, look no further!
Yawwwwwwn..........2004-01-07
I had hoped to read a thoughtful and measured history of coffee/the coffee trade. Instead, I found The Coffee Book to be heavy-handed, one-sided and didactic. Big Business Bad! Imperialism and Colonialism responsible for the Ills of the World! I had to force myself to finish it, and recently sold it for 50 cents at a garage sale. I feel a wee bit guilty; I think that the buyer paid too much...
Boy, what a disappointment THAT was........2003-06-05
Here I thought I was getting a book having something to do with coffee, all I got was a militant greenie screed against any business bigger than a lemonade stand.
Coffee makes rare and infrequent appearances in this book, which was written to reveal the evils of colonialism, how terrible slavery was, how underpaid Third World workers are, how awful America is in just about every way possible and to harrangue readers with straight doctrinaire party-line anti-business anti-WTO liberal international geopolitics. Coffee's just a stage prop for the authors' political rantings.
The authors clearly know nothing about coffee itself apart from the geopolitical ramifications of its trade as a commodity, what there is in the book pertaining to actual coffee is perfunctory, sketchy and cribbed from far better books.
Even on the book's real subject, which is to serve as a tract for liberal free-trade politics they can't get their facts straight. They mindlessly repeat the canards about Starbucks "imperialism" and how they're driving all independent shops out of business. Bushwa. Every study that's been done shows that wherever there's a Starbucks established, local coffee shops thrive and business for everyone goes up.
If you're into reading in-house literature for the free trade movement this book won't challenge your prejudices. But if you want to know something about coffee you won't learn it here.
