Just the Right Information.......2001-02-24
I am interviewing next week for my first management position after being a High School teacher for 11 years. I enjoyed the book and found a lot of valuable material. I was also able to see many of the priciples and suggestions in the book modeled by the better administrators at my school.
There is a lot of business-oriented material in the book that won't necessarily apply to my new (prospective) position as an outdoor-science school Program Director. Still it may be valuable some day and the examples served to clarify the material presented.
The book was a fast read and I made checkmarks in the margin so that I can review the material. I read it mainly to help me come up with ways I would handle situations that may be posed to me as part of my interview, and I think that it served this purpose well.

Book Description
In 1963, the first edition Legal and Regulatory Environment of Business, led by Bob Corley, started a new course emphasizing the legal environment in which business is conducted. By focusing on the public nature of how government regulates business activities, rather than simply how businesses privately make transactions, a movement away from traditional Business Law began. Through its previous 12 editions, Legal and Regulatory Environment of Business by Reed, Shedd, Morehead and Corley has been the leader in setting the standard for materials covered in an introduction to the legal and regulatory environment of business.

Book Description
Mallor, Barnes, Bowers and Langvardt’s, Business Law: The Ethical, Global, and E-Commerce Environment, 12th Edition, is appropriate for the two-term business law course. The cases in the 12th edition are excerpted and edited by the authors. The syntax is not altered, therefore retaining the language of the courts. As in the 11th edition, the 12th edition includes a mix of actual AND hypothetical cases. The title has been changed to reflect a new focus of the book – the global and Internet environment. Business Law: The Ethical, Global, and E-Commerce Environment, 12e includes new pedagogy such as opening vignettes and new-boxed features such as “Ethics in Action” and “Cyberlaw in Action.” This combined with case briefs and concept reviews, along with some reorganization of the text results in a more complete, relevant and user-friendly text.

wrong one.......2006-11-11
book arrived timely fashion but was wrong book. Could not tell from description that this was a study guide and I needed "real" book!
Great intro to law text.......2005-09-30
As an MBA student, this text was a great introduction to business law. The actual cases proved to be quite interesting and illustrative of the topics discussed throughout the text. You must go through the text before reading the cases or you may be confused, but the terms are so well laid out that once familiar with them, the cases are quite easy to understand and you are able to brief them yourself! Will serve as an excellent reference and I have decided to keep it in my library.
Excellent!!!.......2005-09-27
I could not be happy with the speed and condition of this item. I am very pleased with the purchase that I made, and look forward to doing business with them if needed. Thank you for the wonderful, and speedy service.
Not reader friendly, not study friendly, not friendly...........2003-09-03
I understand Jane Mallor to be top in her field. But since this book is geared toward a non-law student - a business student, I give this book a 1, and a zero if I had the chance.
This book - textually speaking - is so poorly arranged. Key terms are imbedded in the text, there's no review at the end of the chapters, it's written in terrible legal-ease. "Down to earth" (non lawyer legal-ease) examples are difficult to come by, since most of the examples are actual cases that go on for pages (and they're "briefs"). To compound the matter, I spent $$$ on the study "guide" because the book is so unfriendly for studying. And guess what? The study guide has NO ANSWERS! What kind of a guide is that? How does that guide you? If you want it to be an "additional exercises" book, then call it that. But STUDY GUIDES ALWAYS have the answers. I hope your Prof. is better than the book they assign. "Business Law Today" is worlds better and easier to read and study, and better outlined and formatted for the "lay" person.
Book Description
Mallor's 11ed is designed to meet the needs of the two-term course. The first term is generally required of business majors and the second by accounting majors, as it prepares them to sit for the CPA exam. The cases in the 11ed are excerpted and edited by the authors, however, the syntax is not altered, therefore retaining the language of the courts. However, this edition will now include a mix of actual AND hypothetical cases. 11ed is easily available for customization. Mallor is considered by the marketplace to be the most complete text available.

A good law book.......2000-05-28
The first time laid my eyes on this book; to tell you the truth I was a bit frightened. I was expecting a very complex law book that would take me more than one pass over the material in order for me to get the material. This was not the case, the book really made the subjects easy to understand and the writers made the book very easy to read. The tables and diagrams also make the book even better for those of us that are more of the visual learner types. I would recommend this book.

Sync: The Emerging Science of Spontaneous Order
ASIN: 0805831630 |
Book Description
Chaos, catastrophe, self-organization, and complexity theories (nonlinear dynamics) now have practical and measurable roles in the functioning of work organizations. Managing Emergent Phenomena begins by describing how the concept of an organization has changed from a bureaucracy, to a humanistic and organic system, to a complex adaptive system. The dynamics concepts are then explained along with the most recent research methods for analyzing real data. Applications include: work motivation, personnel selection and turnover, creative thinking by individuals and groups, the development of social networks, coordination in work groups, the emergence of leaders, work performance in organizational hierarchies, economic problems that are relevant to organizations, techniques for predicting the future, and emergency management.
Each application begins with a tight summary of standard thinking on a subject, followed by the new insights that are afforded by nonlinear dynamics and the empirical data supporting those ideas. Unusual concepts are also encountered, such as the organizational unconscious, collective intelligence, and the revolt of the slaved variables. The net results are a new perspective on what is really important in organizational life, original insights on familiar experiences, and some clear signposts for the next generation of nonlinear social scientists.

Great intro.......2007-07-04
This is a great introduction to the world of coffee for anyone getting into any part of the industry or if you just really enjoy coffee and want to learn more about it.
A solid, useful reference.......2007-05-13
I particularly enjoyed the Chapter on Regional Character (pp 47 - 71). I disagree with description of Kenya as being a "... brooding heavyweight ..." page 39. Kenyan coffee is notably light-bodied. Book has a good glossary of terms in Appendix A.
To the point -not over powering .......2007-03-12
I wanted to know about coffee. This book gave me knowledge about coffee. Easy to read and to the point. After reading this book I ended up talking to individuals in the coffee business and I was able to communicate on their level about coffee and its production.
Great source for coffee amateurs.......2005-09-26
I recommend this book for any person who wants to explore and expand his knowledge about the coffee. Its history, procedures, types of coffee, regions, recipes, etc. Good book with much information.
Great coffee book.......2003-05-12
This book gives a good basic understanding of what coffee is all about. I especially like the specificity of information about coffees from different areas in the Regional Character chapter. For example, discussing Costa Rica's two best growing areas and how the coffees differ. I also found the opinions of which coffees are worthy of their price helpful. I read the Perfect Cup first and am glad I did because it was a good coffee overview for me. Coffee Basics was a great second book for me because I was looking for more specific information about coffees of each area. If I hadn't read Perfect Cup first I think the break down of info. on each type of coffee/regional character would have been information overload for me. If you are new or relatively new to the coffee world and are excited about learning more and more about the subtlties and nuiances present in that cup, I highly recommend you read this book.
Book Description
a quick, basic guide for everyone who wants to know just enough about wine to enjoy it
"Dewey Markham's book reinforces the simple pleasures a bottle of wine brings at the table with good food, good friends and family. He takes the mystery, which often alienates new wine drinkers, out of wine, while retaining the romance that makes wine unique." Robert Mondavi from the Foreword In this light-hearted and intelligent reference, wine authority Dewey Markham gives you, faster than you ever thought possible, the confidence and knowledge to really enjoy choosing and drinking wine. You'll learn how to apply the principles and information in this book to any wine you may encounter, no matter where it is made. Through a series of quick takes, Markham shows you:
- How to deal with wine lists and waiters
- How to get the best value when buying wine in a store
- How to decipher the ten standard items of information on every wine label
- A simple method for judging the quality of any wine
- How to store and serve wine
- How wine is made and packaged
Wine Basics also uses easy-to-understand charts to illustrate the range of tastes in white and red wines and includes a comprehensive but user-friendly vocabulary to describe these tastes.
Customer Reviews:
All You Need To Know.......2005-08-23
In a nutshell, basic information what to look for in a nice bottle of wine. Takes all the guess-work out of your next purchase. Loaned it to a friend who was touring the wine country in France. "Can't wait to hear how helpful it was." Any-one can be a wine connoisseur!
Start with the Basics........2001-01-03
Dewey Markham has been able to bring the so-called "complicated" wine to the most basic level. The book covers topics from Why to drink wine to what is a vintage.
My favorite section was the taste areas of the tongue: sugar, tannin, acid and sweetness. This was very informative on how to taste the wine and what to look for when tasting.
The wine label section was very well presented with the various labels I always get confused but this section in the book goes over the various forms of the labels.
Overall this book was an easy and informative read. If you want to start understanding wine I recommend this book as your first step.
Have fun reading and drinking.
Easy and fun to read and just chock full of useful information........1997-06-12
This book is a fine introduction to wine for anyone interested in obtaining a good foundation for the understanding and ultimate enjoyment of wine. It's a simple and fast read, yet is very informative. It takes you through how to taste wine, how to buy it, how to order it in restaurants, how it is made, and what to look for in wines. The author finds a way to deliver this information without being too serious or stuffy; the presentation is quite down to earth and very approachable, nonintimidating. A fun book

Customer Reviews:
Great starter book on tea.......2007-05-06
To try to prevent my niece from spending all of her time in college going to starb%#ks I recently put together a care package of tea brewer, a few starter books on tea, and some nice loose leaf teas in tins. Going through the recently published books on tea I found this one which is a nice paperback book on tea basics. It has a little filler but covers all of the fundamentals in a concise way, a brief history of camellia sinensis, where it is grown today, grades, types, how the market for tea works, tea vocabulary, some pros/cons on how to brew, and has a nice list of tea resources appended to the back. It even has a good brief description on how to cure a new yixing pot. I like it when a "book on basics" is done well for a topic, and this one is in that category. Not a lot of pretty pictures here... just some good basic information on tea. Throw in Okakura Kakuzo, one of the paperbacks by Diana Rosen and you have yourself a nice present to give someone just starting out with tea. WARNING to tea novices, this stuff is addicting and before you know it you will have an assortment of kettles cups and pots, thermometers, scales, infusers, tins and a dogeared copy of John Blofeld's book. You have been warned.
tea time.......2002-09-12
I absolutely was intrigued by this book, read while sipping a cup of tea. My favorite teas are Republic of Tea, I'd recommend those as well! I liked learning about "TGBOP", Oolong teas, how to brew teas, teas from different countries, etc. I am by no means a tea snob, just a tea lover. This book is great for tea drinkers of any kind.
Perfect for the Tea Beginner.......2002-01-04
This book impressed me. It is easy to read, has a personal feel, and covers all of the basics (what tea is, history, where it is produced, how to brew it, tea tasting, tea ceremonies, etc). Many resources are listed in the back. I have five books on tea so far (a beginner), and this is my favorite. If you only want one book on tea, this is my recommendation. The health section is pretty basic, so if that interests you, you might want to also look at a health-related tea book (green tea). This book describes the general regions, whereas the Tea Companion book describes the individual tea gardens (which may or may not be useful to you.)
