Customer Reviews:
The only multicultural Spanish business dictionary available.......2006-10-25
Business terms vary from Spain to Latin America, and within Latin America. This dictionary provides the variant business terms for the leading Spanish-speaking trading countries, which makes it one of a kind.
It also provides the latest computer terms used in business, an indispensable feature for today's business. Highly useful.
This new edition is as disappointing as the last one........2006-05-11
I am a business translator that has bought every bilingual English-Spanish dictionary for almost 25 years now. Some have been adequate, some great, and some very bad.
This dictionary is not very useful for the following reasons: even though it was recently published, it lacks most of the current terms I have looked up. In addition, it has a much smaller number of terms than competing dictionaries. But the worst part is that the translations it has are not really that accurate. This can lead to misunderstandings, problems, lost business relationships, and is simply not acceptable.
I recommend your buying one or both of the following: Webster's New World English-Spanish/Spanish-English Business Dictionary, or The Oxford Spanish Business Dictionary. If you only need one, then buy Webster's New World English-Spanish/Spanish-English Business Dictionary. Do not buy Spanish Business Dictionary : Multicultural Business Spanish.
I gave this dictionary two stars because I really don't like giving one star ratings.
Good for international business.......2003-04-27
I found this multicultural Spanish business dictionary extremely useful for doing business in Latin America. Spanish business terms can vary from country to country, and this is to my knowledge the first dictionary of its kind that addresses this issue which is critical in the global market.
Long-Felt Need.......2003-04-24
Having been aware for many years of the difficulties of finding the right business term in Spanish ranging from Spain to Mexico to Argentina and other Spanish-speaking countries, as well as the problems of matching English-language business terms-based on the economic and cultural realities of the United States and other English-speaking countries-with proper equivalents in the Hispanic world, I find this dictionary to be an excellent first step in what ought to be an ongoing process of facilitating commerce among the two cultures and their subcultures by improving communications in ways that allow Spanish to keep its own cultural character and English to act as a partner rather than a dominating player in a better interaction in the global market to the benefit of all the countries involved.
Only Dictionary Available for Multicultural Business Spanish.......2003-04-22
Dana McDougald writes in the March 2003 issue of The American Reference Book Annual:
"Everyday Spanish words vary from country to country, even in the business world. This dictionary compiles business terminology that varies throughout the Spanish-speaking world. Included are terms used in banking, insurance, real estate, computers, business terms of international organizations, and more. The first part of the dictionary provides English source words, in bold print, that are set apart from the definitions on a separate line. The next line following the English terms begins with the most common Spanish equivalents(s), followed by country-specific terms. A country designator, set in parentheses, precedes each Spanish term. In cases where there is not a spanish equivalent term, a Spanish definition is provided. Definitions are also added in cases where a more clear understanding of the terms may be needed. Part 2 of the dictionary provides Spanish terms with English equivalents.
Printed on good-quality paper, the dictionary features generous margins, easy-to-read print size, and guide words at the top of each page. Corporations that do business with Spanish-speaking countries as well as public and academic libraries will find this a useful reference tool."

Book Description
This volume of essays examines how the legal systems of the chief countries of Latin America and Mediterranean Europe—Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, France, Italy, and Spain—changed in the last quarter of the 20th century.
Through essays that provide a wealth of data on the courts and the legal profession in these countries, the book attempts to relate changes in the operation of the legal systems to changes in the political and social history of the societies in which they are embedded. The details vary, in accordance with the particular history and structure of the countries, but there are also key commonalities that run through all of the stories: democratization, globalization, and changes in the legal order that seem to be worldwide; more power to courts; a growing legal profession; and the entry of women into what was once a masculine club.
Book Description
In this ground-breaking, two-volume study of the adjustment of advanced welfare states to international economic pressures, leading scholars detail the wide variety of responses in twelve countries. Rejecting any notion of convergence to some kind of neo-liberal orthodoxy, they find that most countries have remained true to the basic features of their postwar model as they have liberalized. Moreover, within different welfare-state constellations, while some countries are still struggling to adjust, others have reached a new sustainable equilibrium. Volume I presents comparative analyses of differences in countries' vulnerabilities and capabilities, the effectiveness of their policy responses, and the role of values and discourse in the politics of adjustment. Volume II presents in-depth analyses of the experiences of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom as well as special studies in the participation of women in the labour market, early retirement, the liberalization of public services, and international tax competition.

Book Description
Since 1974 Europe has been burdened with steadily persistent and increasing unemployment. This book, prepared under the auspices of the European Unemployment Program, uses a compact econometric model to identify the sources of the unemployment problem and to suggest remedies. Focusing on ten European countries, with a chapter on the United States for comparative perspective, the studies are unique in adopting a single theoretical model to guide empirical research. The common framework allows for sharply focused investigation and produces findings whose significance does not end at national boundaries.
The indepth country studies are preceded by an overview that includes a detailed description of the theoretical model, a summary of findings, and policy recommendations and a chapter by Olivier Blanchard that discusses different approaches to the analysis of the unemployment problem and relates this work to earlier efforts.
Jacques H. Drèze, recently retired from his teaching position, remains on the staff of the Center for Operations Research and Econometrics, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. Charles R. Bean is Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics.

Book Description
This Annual Review acts both as a record and as a forum for exchanging ideas. Published each year, it identifies key events in European industrial relations, political economy and social policy during the preceding year and invites leading academic commentators from across the EU to assess their significance. The authors, writing in an accessible style, not only discuss current developments but also provide an informed, longer term perspective. The current issue, reviewing the year 2000, focuses particularly on the economic and political consequences of eastern enlargement of the EU. Other topics discussed include the effects of large multinationals on employment relations in Europe, developments in employment relations in central and eastern Europe, and the emergence of a European social policy agenda. The Review also provides a chronicle of events in European industrial relations, employment, human resource management, employment law, economics and politics for the year 2000 and a review of recent publications in the field.

Book Description
Custer and the Great Controversy was the first book to focus on the origins of what has come to be called the Custer myth. The Battle of the Little Bighorn has always been wrapped in mystery and controversy because none of Custer’s men survived to tell what happened, because press accounts circulated much misinformation and editors politicized the event, because popular writers repeated the errors of journalists, because a court of inquiry issued in bitter debate, and because Indian testimony was hard to gauge. This book, originally published in 1962, helps the reader understand the sources of the confusion and controversy surrounding the Custer fight and the beginning of the legend.
Custer and the Great Controversy was Robert M. Utley’s debut, coming after six years of service as a ranger-historian at the Little Bighorn National Monument. His distinguished career as a historian has produced many books, including Frontiersmen in Blue: The United States Army and the Indian, 1848–1865 and Frontier Regulars: The United States Army and the Indian, 1866–1891, both available as Bison Books.
Customer Reviews:
The place to start for the Custer-Little Big Horn student.......2007-09-05
Despite its age (it was first published in 1962) this book is probably the best of the scores of books available to start with for those interested in exploring the ever elusive and controversial life of George Armstrong Custer and the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Utley, while steering clear of making judgments of his own ("I do not aspire to offer the last word on the subject"), lays out the scene of the battle, shows how the press and early writers colored events and created heroes and villains, looks at the Indian side of the story, and discusses some of the myths that have gone into creating the Custer Legend. The Custer literature is prodigious in amount, and tends to be either Custerphilic (pro-Custer) or Custerphobic (anti-Custer). Again, Utley refuses to take sides, but points out that virtually every "fact" regarding the battle and its participants issues up opposing interpretations. This short book gives a powerful sense of what the student of Custer and especially the Little Big Horn is up against. A useful and straightforward introduction.
Required Reading For Custer Battle Students.......2004-07-09
Anything by Robert Utley is indispensible, especially when it comes to Custer as he wrote CAVALIER IN BUCKSKIN, probably the best biography of the man. Also to his credit are the official NPS Little Bighorn Battlefield guide, a biography of Sitting Bull, and numerous other Custer/Indian Wars/Western history books.
This book is primarily focussed on an examination of the immediate aftermath of the Little Big Horn and how the various lines of controversy were established that still echo (unresolved) and are with us today. These include Did Custer Disobey Orders? Was Reno a coward when he fled from the valley fight? Were both Reno and Benteen negligent in not responding to Custer's written order for the packs, an order with an audible reminder of the gunfire four miles away that, two days later, the men on Reno Hill learned signalled the end of Custer and his command. All of the seeds of future books and endless debates were firmly planted by the end of the 1870s, topped off with the Reno Court of Inquiry. Excellent insight into that event and some of the second-hand talk and gossip sorroundingsthe officers who testified and why they may have said what they did. Utley is his usual dispassionate, detached self as he explores these issues in his highly engaging writing style.
Originally published in 1962, the book concludes with Utley's brief commentary on most of the major battle books published up to that time. One can only wish that this section were revised and updated. Lacking that, we can all look forward to the autor's CUSTER AND ME, due in October 2004.
Series of Essays on Why Custer Became a Legend.......2001-07-16
Early book by the great western writer Robert Utley provides a brief description of the Indian situation that evolved before the LBH and then he provides an abbreviated but well described sequence of battle events. Utley then describes the press' role in developing the story that caught General Sherman and Sheridan off guard as Sherman provides Terry's second controversial report to a reporter by accident. Utley describes the fireworks that arises between Custer supporters such as his old classmate Confederate Rosser and Reno and other military men such as Colonel Hughes, Terry's adjutant and relative. The controversy is even made even more complex by the chapter spent on the Indian's version of events that has elements of truth combined with confusing facts or half truths perhaps aggravated by poor translations and the Indians unique individualistic versions of battle that lack time and spatial realities. Finally, Utley tackles a number of the mythical stories about Custer and the LBH including Frederick Whitacker's quick print and fanciful book on Custer that became a best seller. The best part of this chapter is the discussion about the last four crow scouts to see Custer particularly the debate over when Curley departed from Custer. An excellent book that frames the controversies about Custer's battle which also explains the fascination, nothing is totally certian but amongst all the testimony and physical evidence, somewhere lies the truth.
Custer and the Great Contorversy........2000-05-06
Good reading offers some good insight into the whole Custer and Little Bighorn 'fiasco'! I'm more prepared now to find out what possibly happened on that fateful day. The case has been well made that there may 'never' be a definitive conclusion?

Pride finally led to a fall.......2000-06-25
Follows Custer's military life from battle to battle from the Civil War to Indian fighter to his gloriously stupid death at Little Big Horn. An inspiring leader who always rode at the front of his troops, he finally led them into the greatest victory ever won by the Sioux. Much is made of his devotion to wife Libbie. Disobeying orders, he once abandoned his regiment to check on her well-being and was suspended without pay for almost a year. Drawings, photos, maps, glossary, bibliography, websites, index, chronology all included
Product Description
Who is Sri Ramakrishna? In the words of Romain Rolland Sri Ramakrishna ..was the consummation of two thousand years of the spiritual life of three hundred million people. Sri Ramakrishna is one of the great religious teachers of our age, deeply revered in India and throughout the world. For many seekers, his life and teachings offer enough inspiration for a lifetime and more.Yet just as the power and warmth of the sun can be appreciated more immediately if we notice how it warms and gives life to all that it touches,it is edifying to read the stories of the people who were transformed by Sri Ramakrishna s words, actions and insights.Swami Chetnananda showed this very very well in They Lived with God where he recorded the life stories of twenty eight disciples were changed by Sri Ramakrishna.God lived with them, which recounts the lives of sixteen monastic disciples,is the perfect companion to the earlier work.It is highly informative, rich in details and anecdotes which make vivid the personal stories of these men who chose to leave everything and follow their master. The book can also be an immediate resource for prayerful reading and contemplation as the reader savours and takes personally to heart the encounters and words of practical wisdom which fills its pages.Swami chetananda has once again performed an admirable act of scholarly devotion by bringing together the early memories of these disciples of Sri Ramakrishna.

Real Spirituality.......2007-05-07
This is my second copy of this incredible book. The first I lent to somebody and never got back. It has stories that will inspire you to follow the spiritual life, whatever path you follow. Sri Ramakrishna was a guiding light for humanity in his own time and in our modern world.
Great book for devotees of Sri Ramakrishna!.......1999-09-08
Anyone who would like to know more about Sri Ramakrishna and his most intimate disciples should read this- it is an inspiring account of not only Swami Vivekananda but the other great leaders and yogis of the Ramakrishna Mission. Has nice little anecdotes from his closest disciples....
