Book Description

This book is a history of the Nelson McCoy Pottery Company from 1910 to 1989. The Sanfords new trademarked line finder is an alphabetical thumbnail picture of all of the lines made by the pottery. It includes an extensive table of contents and the family history of four generations of McCoys. There are four thousand pieces pictured in this big red book with identification by line name, mold number, year of manufacture, and color ware available. There are nearly 200 pieces of the private collection of the Cope family who were early designers of McCoy pottery. Over 500 cookie jars, over 100 wall pockets, and the dinnerware produced in the 50s, 60s and 70s. It is indexed and cross-referenced with a price guide.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars The Big Red Book of McCoy Pottery.......2007-09-18

I never buy these guides for the price guides. This one has the price guide in the back of the book and in very small print. I discovered years ago that price guides were mainly for bragging rights: "I have this piece and it's worth umpty million dollars according to Sanford's". However they are good for relative value. And it would be a really good idea if more emphasis was placed on condition and it's effect on value. McCoy Pottery after all was mass produced and finding glaze pops, glazing defects and glazed over errors in production is just part of owning McCoy, but still the perfect piece is far more desirable than the imperfect, all else being equal.

Lots of good pictures and pictures of the bottoms of some pots-- oh, yes, this is very helpful because how items are finished on the bottom is some very valuable hints to who made it.

The only think I would like to see more of (given the fact that McCoy has become the target of fakers) is pictures of reproductions and fantasy pieces with the McCoy mark that are currently in circulation.

4 out of 5 stars Great information, poorly organized.......1999-10-06

This is the best book I have seen on McCoy pottery. It is very complete and has great pictures. I do not like the pricelist in the back of the book, alot of page turning needed. I copied the price pages to use while browsing the book. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive book written on McCoy Pottery to date.......1998-07-07

This book is the most complete book written on McCoy pottery. Over 4,000 pictures referenced to line/type, a picture line finder, glossary of terms, complete index and table of contents, it is easy to use for the novice as well as the expert collector. A great cross referenced guide to all McCoy Items including 500 Cookie Jars, Kitchenware, Dinnerware, etc. A excellent in depth history of McCoy pottery from beginning to present, original catalog sheets, personal Quotes from Nelson McCoy. Absouletly the most you can get for your money. Truly a complete collectors guide.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful encyclopedia for the collector..........2000-04-02

This is a great book. It contains hundreds, perhaps thousands of images of this great art pottery. The photos cover everything from the jardinieres to garden ornaments, from kitchenware to novelty planters, and vases of all sorts. The Sanfords include a number of old catalog sheets, which give us some perspective on various lines, and a pricing guide in the back (which one needs to bear in mind will be affected by the impact online auctions have had on all reference works price lists.)

All in all this book is well worth the investment, especially if you are a fan of this wonderful pottery.

5 out of 5 stars Fall in Love with Brush-McCoy.......2000-05-10

I began collecting McCoy pottery over one year ago, and have several books already. This book however, is absolutely wonderful if you're into collecting the wonderful older lines by Brush-McCoy.

Great history given on the different lines. Super explanations throughout! Excellent pictures shown with many catalog reprints (the detail from these reprints is harder to see), but I have an older 1978 book as well, and these reprints are super! I don't even need the other book now!

I, also, had several pieces that had remained unidentified thru other sources, but found in this book! Great reference, super learning tool, and a seperate value guide (although I find it hard to use, as it keeps falling out of the book). I find myself looking through it over and over again, as the pictures are super, detail is great, and I just might find that piece of unmarked pottery from having this book handy! Now to get Book 2!

4 out of 5 stars Off To A Good Start..........2002-09-08

If you are clueless as to how to start a corporation in the State of California, this book is a great place to begin.

A few things about the title of the book are slightly misleading, which I will get out of the way up-front. First of all, this book in no way encourages you to start a California corporation on your own. This is not a do-it-youself kit that walks you through the process of forming a corporation. Rather, it is largely aimed at helping you to decide what type of business entity is appropriate for your company, and how to get started. It gives comparisons between C-Corporations, S-Corprations, LLCs, sole-proprietorships, partnerships, etc. It comes to the author's slightly biased (but correct) conclusion that all but corporations are inappropriate for most business use.

Another problem with the title, but which is more of an oddity than a real issue, is that the cover and title refer to forming a corporation as "A Simple 9-Part Program". Once you get the actual book though, you will find that the cover and title vary slightly from what is advertised. It is actually "A Simple 6-Part Program"! I am not sure what happened to the 3 other "simple parts", but they somehow disapperared between the time I ordered the book, and the time I received it! Odd, but unimportant.

One other point, there is not a great deal of information in this book specific to the State of California. Most of it is more general in nature concerning corporations. Also, some of the info is slightly dated, as it was published in 1998. The reference section definitely could stand to be updated with website addresses, rather than just mailing addresses and phone numbers. The vast majority of general information still applies though, and has not changed since the time this book was initially written.

The author of this book is a lawyer, and urges you to go through one when starting your California Corporation. For anyone even considering doing something as foolish as filing to become a corporation on their own, this book will set them straight. The book does help you with may items that you would likely have to pay an attorney extra for though, such as providing templates for many forms, and answering many questions that would cost you big bucks to get your attorney to answer. All in all, it is an excellent value, and will save you quite a bit of time and effort when it comes to finding answers to simple questions as to how to get started. Although you will not really be able to run a corporation after reading this book, at least you know exactly what you are up against, and where to get started. The author's writing style is excellent, and the book was enjoyable enough to read, for such a relatively dull subject.

3 out of 5 stars Covers a lot of information, but not very thoroughly.......1998-08-24

The table of contents lists an ambitious amount of material, but the coverage is very general and has no depth. After I read the chapter on incorporating, I didn't know any more than when I started, and my knowledge is very general. This is too light for a person seriously interested in starting a business.

    5 out of 5 stars Very good.......2001-06-15

The best book I have seen in one year searching and investigating about MBAs,GMAT, European vs American programs, etc. If you are planning to buy this book, wait for the 2001 edition which should have recent data.

Don't waste your time looking up for another book, this is THE MBA BOOK.

1 out of 5 stars for people who want some information on MBA outside US.......2001-04-08

Do not expect some key information about Harvard, Wharton or NYU. This book just lists about 200 MBA with a quick overview (2 pages) on each. If you want to apply to an MBA in Australia or in China, this book can give you all the basic information you need to know.

4 out of 5 stars Thorough overview of MBA programs outside of the US.......1998-09-24

This book is a godsend to anyone contemplating one of the many top-notch MBA programs outside of the US. Bickerstaffe doesn't attempt to "rank" the schools, which seems to be the only way anymore that the US programs are described in the guidebooks. Instead, he provides factual information often difficult to locate anywhere else. I was surprised to find a book like this existed. Great find.

4 out of 5 stars "WHICH MBA?" provides valuable information on MBA programs........1998-03-09

"WHICH MBA?" is a valuable source of information for understanding the student composition and curriculums of MBA programmes all over the world. I appreciated Bickerstaffe's focus on European programmes. Often it is very difficult to find information on programmes outside the U.S. "WHICH MBA?" does not attempt to rank MBA programmes or assess thier reputation. It merely provides facts.

    5 out of 5 stars Really useful!!!.......1996-11-08

I refer to the 8th edition, available since 1996. A really useful guide. I strongly recommend it to each and every potential taker for the expensive MBA studies.

        Book Description

The MBA is becoming a necessity for anyone wanting to explore new career opportunities, accelerate personal development and increase their salary, but taking an MBA isn't a decision that should be taken lightly.

There is a lot to consider, such as financing, choosing the right program school, format, duration, location etc. Finding the right program for the individual can make the difference between an enjoyable and rewarding experience, or an unhappy and frustrating one.

Which MBA? sets out to answer all the questions of a prospective student. For the first time, it also offers a ranking of the business schools included in the directory section, based on data supplied by the business schools themselves and by their students and alumni.

        Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not bad for a quick start.......2003-03-19

This book gives a lot of usefull information about a lot of MBA programs, but I found a lack of top ten U.S. schools. Some of them are missing, there is a huge gap between the best schools and those ranked below. (Some of them are ranked below #100).

I prefer this book than browsing the net because at a glance you can have interesting information of many, many MBA's and the information is well organized. GMAT means, ratio applications/accepted, strong subjects, deadlines, number or students, main features, % of student body, all the basic information to get to know what an MBA may you offer and wheter it's appealing depending on your targets.

The europen chapter is better than anyone. The U.S. chapter is not wide enough, but not bad.

If you are deciding to which MBA you should apply, this book will help you to shorten your starting list and focus on 10 to 12 MBA programs. Then which one to choose it's up to you

3 out of 5 stars Good International, Bad USA.......2003-01-25

This series used to contain "raw comments" from students which I found very interesting. Now, Business Week is the only one that publishes them.

Interesting statistics, good summaries. But pretty duplicative of any other book, web site, WSJ, BW, etc.

Except for international. Very highly recommended if you're looking at international schools off the beaten path.

        Getting long in the tooth.

5 out of 5 stars Great guide and now a great site.......2002-10-10

This is a fantastic guide to MBA programs for non-geographically challenged Americans. The first part of the book discusses admission requirements, the objectives of an MBA and the results of a global survey with academics, students and alumni. The second part provides listings of over 100 schools, including the biggest and best in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

In addition, they have just launched a website alongside the print guide...

5 out of 5 stars Best guide we have found for European business schools!.......2002-07-06

While this book covers North American b-schools, it is particularly valuable if you are interested in a European business school. We particularly like the primary source research from the surveys. While we would have liked to have seen even more quotes from the purported 4,500 survey respondents, this is certainly the most authoritative source we have found for European, particularly British, MBA programs. Additionally, we have received nothing but positive feedback Which MBA? (both the current and previous editions) from our clients.

3 out of 5 stars Best for people who want to study in Europe.......2002-06-26

Where American business schools are concerned, this book says really nothing new: it gives basic stats for admission, salaries, ; it describes the nuts-and-bolts of the curriculum, etc. There is really nothing in the way of editorial comments from students, faculty, recruiters, or for that matter from the authors. It's just the facts, mam.

The approach for European schools is the same, but I know of no other book that mentions more than even, say, half a dozen European schools. This book has about 100 pages of info on British schools (which is almost as much as they have for the U.S.) and almost as much again for "continental" Europe. So if you are interested in schools in Europe beyond the top six or so, you will actually need this book. It will be handy (but incomplete, since it lacks much qualitative information).

If you are a U.S. student (or intend to be), the basic Business Week guide gives the same basic information and adds a lot of qualitative info to. Buy it instead for this country.

                      Book Description

Modern Indian home food is as varied and eclectic as any cuisine in the world. But unlike Indian restaurant cooking, it does not require legions of chefs to spend hours preparing spices and pastes or slow-cooking stews and curries. Deeply-flavored dishes are created simply, in a way that fits in with our modern busy lifestyle.

The regions of India have long enjoyed different styles of food, using different ingredients and cooking techniques-and this is never more apparent than in the country's home kitchens. There are the kebabs, koftas, tikkas, dals, flatbreads, and tandoori dishes of the North, where warming dried spices bring comfort during the harsh winters. From the West, where rice is a staple, come spicy seafood and chicken dishes. The South brings us coconut dishes, vegetarian recipes, biryanis, and dosas, all flavored with deliciously fresh spices, and highlights from the East include noodles, fresh-water fish, and desserts.

Some of the dishes in India with Passion are steeped in tradition, while others are based on new creations that Manju has enjoyed in India's homes, cafes, and restaurants. But all are authentically Indian, rich in flavor, and simple to cook.
