Customer Reviews:
I'm very excited about this book!.......2002-05-16
Let's be honest - the two most difficult issues when starting a business venture like this would be:
1. Getting your foot in the door (of a world that is so foreign to you that it may as well be OZ) and
2. Money negotiations (how does one actually sit down and talk money with people of this stature)?
Both of these extremely difficult issues are addressed along with so much more.
I found this guide to be an informative read as well as an honest straightforward peak into the world of celebrity fan clubs.
Kudos to Ms. Logan!.......2002-05-11
Your guide to starting a celebrity fan club is just the best! It is extremely informative, and the samples that are included were a much appreciated bonus. But, more than any of that -- what made this an incredible read was the motivational writing (the "pep talk if you will")! I really feel like this is something that I CAN do and who knows ... maybe I will get to run that "certain someone's" fan club after all! Thank you so much!!
A Dream Come True!.......2002-05-07
I've been a member of fan clubs since I can remember being interested in music (quite a long time now)and have always fantasized about running my own club. But how in the world do you start something like that? Well, I recommend this book to guide you. I was so pleased to see examples of letters, contracts and member cards!!!! This truly is a dream come true.
Very Enlightening.......2002-04-28
I loved this book! I think the author was very brave to write a book about how to do what she does for a living; and very generous to give us the tools to do so. I've never been able to find a book on this type of business and was really pleased in the style of writing. I felt like I was sitting down and having a cup of tea with the author as she took me through the rudiments of starting a fan club business. If you think of this as a "how to" guide, instead of a book...you'll really enjoy it.
Uninformative and useless!!.......2001-05-31
I bought this book thinking it would provide detailed information on how to start and run a fan club. I was very disappointed in it, especially for the price. The book is 99 pages with a very big font and double spaced. She spends very little time telling you how to actually secure the services of the celebrity's management and speaks very generically throughout the book. There are a few generic contracts at the end of the book but nothing really useful here. Total waste of money!!

In Ithaca, the villagers so revere the olive that they give names to the olive trees that bear them. We're not talking upstate New York here, but Greece, the land that gave us rosy-fingered dawns and spanakopita. Diane Kochilas gives us the Greek way with vegetables in The Greek Vegetarian, and she should be given some kind of humanitarian award for the effort. For anyone fussing over increasing greens, vegetables, and grains while reducing the place of meat in the usual American diet, The Greek Vegetarian is a place of comfort and repose, a place to settle back in the sun and flip through the pages and let the deliciousness of all these wonderful food ideas lap over your life like warm waves from the Aegean Sea.
There are 100 recipes herein, and they come from the traditions of Greek cuisine. No one is stretching just to make a dish vegetarian (oh, OK: there's one recipe for vegetarian souvlaki). Only recently have Greeks gained the dubious title of biggest meat eaters in Europe, and even then all they did, according to the author, was make their plates bigger for the added meat. They still eat a diet rich in vegetables. Always have; always will.
But some specifics. Kochilas divides her book into Meze, the little dishes of Greece, and Main Meals, the pastas, soups, stews, casseroles, savory pies and breads, the egg dishes. There's Beet and Apple Salad with a Yogurt Dressing, for starters. How about Roasted Eggplant and Chickpea Salad? Or Arugula Salad with Wrinkled Olives and Orange Slices? The Classic Greek Bean Soup is included. So too is a dish of Potatoes Stewed with Kalamata Olives. The possibilities build, one upon the other. This book bursts with flavor the same way a vine-ripened, sun-warmed tomato bursts at the first bite. It will dribble down your chin if you're not careful. --Schuyler Ingle

Customer Reviews:
Marvelous recipes!.......2007-01-09
Unlike many Greek cookbooks that I have bought, this one is actually GREEK. Kochilas has brought forth excellent recipes redolent of my years living in Greece. Bravo, Diana!
The Greek Vegetarian.......2006-07-11
I am leaning more and more toward becoming a total vegetarian because of health issues. This book is making life enjoyable again.
Delicious.......2005-11-20
This is full of great and substantial dishes. It is very clearly written and includes a great variety of recipes. I especially love the recipe for White Beans with Honey and Dill. I have made similar recipes, but this was the best version of this classic Greek dish that I have found. The recipes are clearly written.
Fabulous!.......2002-06-18
This book is the most used vegetarian cookbook in my collection. I cook from it at least twice a week, and the recipes are terrific. Clear instructions make Greek cooking a breeze. Thank you Diane Kochilas!
i prefer Kremezi's Greek Island cooking book instead.......2002-01-10
Diane Kochilas says and I quote,
"There is a certain elemental quality to all the cooking of Greece that seperates it from the cooking to the east and to the west, that is from the cooking of Turkey on one side and of Italy on the other."
I am a gourmet cook and I don't know what Kochilas is talking about in terms of Turkish cooking. The Greek foods are heavily influenced by the Turkish cooking in fact it is hard to find dishes that are NOT shared by these 2 countries on either side of the Aegean. Many recipes in this book have Ottoman Turkish origins. Yet the author denies any Turkish influence. Sour grapes, Diane????? I think so.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Vegetarian Greek Cookbook.......2004-12-19
This is a great Greek cookbook. It is a vegetarian cookbook, but I hardly noticed with all of the great recipes inside. It, of course, contains all of the basics like falafel, humus, and Moussaka, but there is so much more in this cookbook! One of my favorite recipes is the Cucumber-Yogurt Salad. It is wonderfully refreshing and makes a great side for a lunch. The book also contains some delightfully different recipes - green beans in tomato sauce, zucchini patties, and eggplants with cinnamon.
The recipes in this book are easy to make, so any cook should be able to prepare them. I would recommend this book to anyone who want to add some Greek recipes to their repetoir. Although it is a vegetarian cookbook, non-vegetarians will enjoy it too!
Good variety and flavor.......2003-12-15
I use this cookbook in combination with another, Greek Vegetarian Cookery, since both have similar recipes but some slightly different ingredients and I love to play when I cook. I see these two cookbooks as equals since they overlap in some areas not in others and where they overlap its interesting to combine ingredients from the two recipes to make something more flavorful. This is a great cookbook even as a stand-alone though, don't get me wrong. There are some excellent recipes for moussaka in here (3 different recipes are provided which is neat). The recipes are all quite easy and don't call for a lot of ingredients - all ingredients are easily found in the supermarket. There are quite a few eggplant recipes in here which for me was great since I love eggplant and am often looking for new ways to prepare it. So far what I've tried has been great. There's a good use of a variety of herbs (such as garlic, basil, cinnamon, etc - things that are pretty commonplace) and they're used appropriately. The chapters cover some of everything: appetizers (e.g. eggplant dip, cheese sticks, stuffed grape leaves - excellent recipe), soups (onion, lentil, chick pea) , salads (black-eyed pea salad, cabbage salad, greek salad, etc), entrees (eggplant soufflé, baked eggplant, eggplant au gratin, falafel, potato patties, lima beans in sour cream, spinach pie, stuffed tomatoes, zucchini patties etc), sides (artichoke dishes, baked eggplant, eggplant in tomato sauce, onion stew etc), breads, sweets. Definitely recommend this cookbook. Nutritional information (fat, protein, calories is provided for each recipe as well)
Excellent for all lovers of Greek an Vegetarian Foods!.......2002-08-22
This book is great. This book really shows how many traditional recipes in the Greek cuisine do not have meat ingredients. It can be used by anyone who loves Greek food, ethnic food, or vegetarian cooking. I had even lent it to an Indian friend who's vegetarian and she found it to be very useful and the recipes easy to follow. I have always recommended Greek restaurants and recipes to vegetarian and vegan friends who have always appreciated the change of venue and menu!
Just reading the recipes makes you feel satisfied........2001-10-17
Every recipe is exciting and many unique to this traditional cookbook.
It is designed for folks like us who are interested in ethnic cooking that is not greasy or loaded with unhealthy ingredients but at the same time better than a restaurant except you have to do the dishes! We're vegetarians as well so we really liked it.
Try the little stuffed eggplant or the pastichio without meat it is phenomenal! Where's the meat? Who cares when you make these recipes. Or better yet give the book to someone who can cook them for you! I did and I don't regret it.
Traditional Greek Cooking with a Vegetarian Twist.......2000-12-19
This cookbook offers classic Greek recipes with a vegetarian twist. This 192-page paperback provides a complete collection of unique and flavorful vegetarian recipes that are a healthy alternative to the standard meat dishes. The traditional meatless dishes, such as spanakopita and baklava, are well represented, and this cookbook also contains modified versions of classics such as moussaka and dolmades.
While this cookbook does not provide any photos, it does provide a helpful section on Greek ingredients, and an informative herb and spice glossary. The cookbook includes recipes for appetizers, soups, salads, sauces, entrées, side dishes, breads, and sweets, and all recipes include nutrition information. Ms. Polemis, who is originally from Greece, also includes helpful hints and advice in many of the recipes.
While testing the recipes, I found that the instructions are easy to follow and understand. This cookbook might not be the best choice for a novice, but it is definitely clear enough for those with some culinary experience. The dishes were very flavorful, using traditional Greek accents and seasonings that are readily available at most local grocery stores.
Overall, I recommend this cookbook. It is a wonderful addition to any kitchen, not only for vegetarians, but also for those who would like to try healthy and flavorful alternatives to the standard Greek dishes.

Customer Reviews:
Charming and simple.......2007-04-25
This book is humble in appearance, not one of the snazzy cookbooks with glossy photos and "new takes on old dishes." It's not printed on great paper and doesn't even have line drawings.
However, what it does have is a double-handful of simple-but-delicious recipes that even I can't get too terribly wrong, and I've been enjoying them very much in the couple of weeks since I received this book.
My interest is Greek cookery, but this cookbook is so wonderful, I plan to chase down the other Healing Arts ethnic vegetarian cookbooks!
It's okay.......2007-02-04
I'll tell you what: The book is as good as the other reviewer states.
However, if you've been cooking mediterranean food in general or greek food in general for a while and are looking to expand you collection of cookbooks on the subject or your knowledge, it won't hurt to pass on this one.
It is a very basic greek food cookbook; Rice with Cheese and Butter, Tomato Salad, Stuffed Grape Leaves, Lentil Soup, nothing you haven't seen before.
But, if you are just startting to explore the beauty that is the mediterranean food, then, by all means, this is a good book to start with!.
Happy Cooking!.
terrific.......2005-02-22
Finally a recipe for stuffed grape leaves where I didn't burst the leaves and make a big mess. I also love that there are recommendations for side dishes/dips to serve with the grape leaves. Most of the recipes have a note at the end that tells you an extra tip like this or if you can freeze it etc. There are some wonderful moussaka recipes too which we really love. We were in Greece about a year ago and these recipes definitely bring back memories. There are no photos in here but it doesn't really need it. Itr has all the classic dishes that you'd think of for Greek cooking. Both Greek and translated names of the dishes are provided.

Book Description
This collection of cookbooks interprets the savory flavors of international cuisines for the animal-free, vegan diet. Each region's most famed dishes are detailed or redesigned to be meat- and dairy-free. With recipes for appetizers, breads, salads, main courses, desserts, and drinks, each cookbook covers the entire culinary palate.
Vegan cooks can reproduce the traditional flavors of Greek cuisine with this book, which includes recipes for walnut-stuffed mushrooms, chickpea soup, gyros, and baklava.
Customer Reviews:
Don't bother.......2006-09-18
This is a poorly researched book. Greek cuisine has a wealth of vegan recipes based on vegetables and pulses and one would expect to find them replicated here. Most of them are not. Lenten baking recipes omit eggs and dairy products and not even these recipes are replicated here. It's true that the cost of this book is low: you get what you pay for.

Cooking the Greek Way.......2005-06-18
While the 18 recipes in this cookbook (yes, you read correctly, 18) do represent traditional Greek cooking well, most of the recipes would be difficult for a young cook to make without adult supervision and assistance. Traditional favorites such as baklava, spanikopita and stuffed grape leaves are included among the recipes. The beginning of the book has cultural information about Greece and safe cooking tips. This book would be helpful for a school project about Greece, but it is disappointingly short.

Has some of everything.......2003-12-15
We recently returned from a trip to Greece and although it was a bit tough to find vegetarian food when I did it was good and I was inspired to do some cooking when I got back. So I sought out a few cookbooks, this being one. This is a good cookbook. It has some of everything - appetizers (here are the ones I've tried - they were good: stuffed grape leaves, eggplant dip, spinach balls, cucumber/yogurt dip, chick pea dip etc), breads (haven't tried any of these but they have Easter bread, Christmas bread, pita etc), pasta dishes (the only one I've tried is the pasta salad with dandelions but there are other recipes too like spaghetti with mushroom and tomato sauce, baked macaroni with eggplant and zucchini etc), Rice dishes (tomato rice, stiffed peppers, stuffed tomatoes, moussaka with rice etc), Soups (these were some of my favorites - especially the bean soup with hot peppers and the spinach and lentil soup - I embellished a bit but the basic recipes are flavorful too), legumes (all sorts of hearty bean stews as well as some other dishes), vegetables (a bunch of eggplant dishes, cauliflower dishes and others - baked eggplant with feta, tomatoes, marjoram was excellent), salads (lots of different salads, there must be 50 different recipes here, haven't tried them yet), eggs (this section is different omelet recipes mostly), cheese (a variety of recipes focused on cheese, haven't tried them but they include cheese triangles, cheese pies etc), sauces (e.g. sesame, garlic, tomato & lentil), desserts (custards, cakes etc), preserves (eggplant preserve, apricot, quince), drinks (teas, coffee, lemonade). Overall lots of neat recipes in such a small book - the recipes are all quite straight-forward (often 2-3 per page to give you an idea of the complexity). Each section leads off with some background of Greek history/culture which is neat. Overall great little cookbook that seems pretty authentic in the flavorings. I like that it provides both English and Greek names for the recipes.
