5 out of 5 stars An excellent plan for a beginning business owner.......1999-06-18

"Anatomy of a Business Plan" was a great help to me. I had no idea how to write a business plan and needed one before I could go to a lender. The book led me step-by-step through the whole thing and I developed an excellent business plan. In fact, the lender was very impressed with the quality of the plan and has assured me that getting my loan will be no problem. I am happy to recommend this valuable book to other readers."

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars good starting point.......2001-01-09

Great book on the basics of writing a professional business plan for any small company. For anyone who's starting a business for the first time or is sitting down to write his or her first business plan, this is among the most useful books to turn to. The chapters for the most part walk the reader through the various section of the business plan and there are examples of actual plans following the author's guide in the appendixes to the book. There are also worksheets and a useful glossary. The writing is clear and a good starting point.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Experienced and New Businesses.......2000-10-27

Veteran business owners and new entrepreneurs can derive immediate benefit from Anatomy of a Business Plan. It is THE book to get your fast-growing venture or franchise on track, and to secure significant financial rewards. Anatomy presents the strategy and elements of a Business Plan to guide both product and service-oriented companies, from major organizations to small partnerships. The financials in this book are the most comprehensive I have seen. If you're looking for the template to take to the bank for a loan, or seeking a management tool, Anatomy is the key.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but rather simple........2000-06-10

Good ideas, well organized, but a bit simple. If you want to start something more complex than a simple "mom & pop feel" type business you need go elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars A very clear, very "reader friendly", step-by-step guide........2000-04-06

There are numerous books on business plans on the market, but Linda Pinson and Jerry Jinnett's Anatomy Of A Business Plan is one of the clearest: it provides a step-by-step guide to writing the plan and building the business, and appears here in its 4th edition to provide all the details in building - and changing - a business plan.

    4 out of 5 stars A good, helpful read.......1999-11-25

I found this book to helpful for my Internet startup business. I would highly recommend it over other so-called "high-tech" business plan books. Well done!

Millions of Americans dream of owning and operating their own businesses. Sadly, most of these startups fail. But Lisa Rogak, author of Smart Guide to Starting a Small Business and a small business operator herself, believes that, with a little foresight and planning, you can beat these odds. For Rogak, one of the first steps to take in starting your own business is to assess your own abilities and motivations. To this end, the book includes five self-assessment quizzes that help you to narrow your focus, identify your likes and dislikes, determine the kind of business that best fits your personality, assess the competition, and identify customers. The book also covers the nuts and bolts of running a business--the best type of business structure (sole-proprietorship, partnership, corporation), getting a business license, insurance, taxes, how to hire employees, create a cash-flow statement, and some marketing basics. If you ever catch yourself dreaming about going off on your own, you'll find this book a good way to begin making that dream a reality. --Harry C. Edwards

4 out of 5 stars For the TRUE beginner........2007-04-06

If generalities is what you're looking for (and I was) this book is very handy and useful if you know absolutely nothing about starting a small business. Too many other books get into too much detail assuming you have a basic knowledge already - I didn't. This book helped me get to that point so I can understand the more detailed and nitty gritty books.

I wasn't crazy about chapters 1 & 2 (Why You and Why Your Own Business? & Choosing Your Business). But I found chapter 3 very useful (The Best-Laid Plans) because it explained what a Sole Proprietor is, for example, what the pros and cons are and how it compares to Partnership, Corporation, etc. And it explained it in very simple layman's terms. You can find a lot of this information free online but, again, you find WAY too much information that assumes you have a basic knowledge. I found it all too consfusing. I really liked the simplicity of this book and it assumed I knew nothing (and I didn't). But now I do! :)

2 out of 5 stars Warm fuzzies and generalities.......2002-11-08

One day I might want to start a business, and I wanted to get a feel of what to do. This book, however, did not provide it.

This book mainly deals with generalities, and is more a definition of common sense than of how to start a business. Instead of concentrating on specifics, what forms to use, the amount of time to set it up, the cost, etc. It gives a very general, almost a "duh", feel to it.

It's a small book, but the amount useful information presented is even smaller.

From the supplier: Dow Chemical Co.'s Advanced Cleaning Systems experts are prepared for the Dec 31, 1995 phaseout of 1,1,1-trichloroethane and chlorofluorocarbon CFC 113 in vapor degreasers. The two universal parts cleaning solvents' phaseout has prompted two-thirds of industrial users to convert to aqueous or water-based cleaning. The rest are expected to adopt other methods such as vapor degreaseing with non-phaseout chlorinated solvents, semi-aqueous or hydrocarbon immersion cleaning and other alternatives. Companies are generally choosing between aqueous systems and solvent-based cleaning.

              Book Description

As a result of high levels of income and consumer spending, Poland has been an increasingly interesting destination for trade. It is particularly attractive to foreign investors seeking to establish a presence in the country with strong human resources and an ideal geographic location at the heart of Europe. An ambitious strategy of pre-accession to the European Union has changed the legal environment of business towards being more friendly towards foreigners and increased the capacity of the Polish market to cope with competitive pressure within the Union.

Comprehensive in its coverage, this book is an excellent source of reference for practitioners and policy-makers, as well as a fundamental resource for lawyers involved in business. Polish Business Law is a guide providing information and best practice advice from outstanding lawyers of CMS Cameron McKenna.

                              Book Description

Industrial Engineering (IE) is concerned with the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, material, equipment, and energy. Industrial engineers face many problems with incomplete and vague information in these systems since the characteristics of these problems often require this kind of information. Fuzzy sets approaches are usually most appropriate when human evaluations and the modeling of human knowledge are needed. IE brings a significant number of applications of fuzzy set theory.

After an introductory chapter explaining the recent status of fuzzy sets in IE, this volume involves application chapters on the major seven areas of IE to which fuzzy set theory can contribute. These major application areas are Control and Reliability, Engineering Economics and Investment Analysis, Group and Multi-criteria Decision-making, Human Factors Engineering and Ergonomics, Manufacturing Systems and Technology Management, Optimization Techniques, and Statistical Decision-making. Under these major areas, every chapter includes didactic numerical applications.

                                  Book Description

This work examines the topic of dispute resolution, specifically the multi-criteria approach that seeks to arrive at a conclusion that is mutually beneficial to both sides. Through the use of decision-aiding software, the multi-criteria approach can allow each side to give on various criteria that are not important to it, but are important to the other side. In this way, a "super-optimum" solution may even be met, in which both sides receive something significantly "better" than they had expected. Such a result is very difficult, if not impossible, to achieve, Stuart Nagel points out, in traditional single-dimension dispute resolution. Nagel and Mills describe the nature of multi-criteria dispute resolution utilizing decision-aiding software. The first part of the book clarifies the general character of computer-aided negotiation, computer-aided mediation, and super-optimizing dispute resolution. Part two guides the reader through the use of Policy/Goal Percentaging (P/G%) decision-aiding software, centering on general decision-making, negotiation, mediation, and prediction of outcomes. Multi-criteria resolution in the context of rule-making and legal policy disputes is the focus of part three, where such matters as determining initial alternatives and criteria, resolving deadlocks, and arriving at super-optimum solutions are discussed. Part four emphasizes dispute resolution in the context of rule-applying and litigation disputes, as well as mediation at the international level and between lawyers and clients. The final part deals with future applications, such as computer-aided mediation and group decision-making with phone modems. The book's combination of decision-aiding software, arbitration-mediation, and super-optimum expansionist decision-making brings a truly innovative approach to the topic of dispute resolution. This volume should be a welcome addition to academic, legal, and public libraries, and a valuable reference work for lawyers, law students, and legal professors and researchers.

So we have to examine a number of very interesting theoretical modeling, analyzing and solution of real-life problems. However, Six Sigma add-on addresses the problem domain or in another word addresses the defect/errors together with their conversion to yield/success in the overall module. Many modules are lacking addressing the "problem domain' before and after the fact. This is the reason global car companies still suffer from recall in millions. Also we convert the whole into J2EE server thereby migrate from excel limitation, though we import and export it. We open to B2B relationships respecting this craft and its community.

                                    Description:
Analytic network process (ANP) is a new tool for multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) but can also be applied in academic research to prioritize factors or criteria. It enhances the function of analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to develop a complete model that can incorporate interdependent relationships between elements from different levels or within levels, which are assumed to be uncorrelated in AHP. Although ANP has recently been applied in the construction field, it cannot be applied easily to process models. This is because its concept does not consider the impacts of an element on another element occurring at different periods in a process, such as stages, phases, etc. This paper uses the strategic partnering model as an example to present a method that helps to form the super-matrix for process models. The procedure of ANP is also highlighted in this paper.

                                      Description:
Over the previous decade, sustainable forest management (SFM) has become a highly relevant topic both in forest and environmental policy. Criteria and indicators (C&I) are primarily used in implementing the principles of SFM at national, regional, and at forest management unit levels. In turning SFM from a conceptual framework into applicable guidelines at the operational scale, several limitations have to be acknowledged: (i) partial lack of knowledge, (ii) deficits about dependencies and feedbacks among system components represented by C&I, and (iii) knowledge gaps regarding impacts and related uncertainties. Several methodologies have been proposed to implement C&I-based SFM. Multi-criteria analysis is often used to analyze and evaluate multiple C&I approaches. This study compares two different multi-criteria analysis approaches: the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) with a hierarchical structure and the analytic network process (ANP) with a network structure. Comparisons are made for evaluating sustainable management strategies at forest management-unit level by using a C&I approach based on the Pan-European guidelines for SFM. AHP and ANP are used to compare four different strategic management options with a set of six criteria and 43 indicators. Differences in evaluation results between AHP and ANP are discussed, as well as strengths and weaknesses of both approaches for SFM. Needs and demands are derived for successful future applications in forestry decision-making.

                                        Description:
Sustainability in dairy farming is determined by using aspects (economic, social and ecological). Per aspect a number of measurable attributes is selected. Difficulty for determining the sustainability of farming systems is the combination of the different attribute measures into a sustainability function, which measures the overall sustainability. Furthermore, stakeholder groups often evaluate sustainability different and should be consulted to determine sustainability. In this research, the multi-attribute utility theory (MAUT) is used to develop an overall sustainability function for Dutch dairy farming systems. This approach consists of four steps: (1) determination of attribute utility functions, (2) assessing attribute weights to determine utility functions per aspect, (3) assessing aspect weights to determine the overall sustainability function per stakeholder group and (4) determination of the overall sustainability function for society by aggregating preferences of stakeholders and experts using a goal programming approach. Depending on the possibility for objective evaluation of each aspect, either experts or stakeholders were consulted to determine attribute utility functions and the utility functions of the particular aspect. In this study, experts determined (attribute) utility functions for economic and ecological sustainability. Stakeholders (producers, consumers, industrial producers and policy makers) determined their own utility function for external social sustainability and their own aspect weights. The developed overall sustainability function is applied to different Dutch dairy farming systems represented by four experimental farms. MAUT proves to be a suitable method to determine an overall sustainability function. Sustainability rankings for the dairy farming systems appear to be relatively insensitive to changes in attribute and aspect weights. Based on these results, it is concluded that the developed sustainability function based on stakeholder and expert perceptions can be used with reasonable confidence to determine the sustainability of different dairy farming systems.

A program has been developed in Excel and written in Visual Basic for Applications, which enables a decision maker to examine the robustness of a solution obtained when using multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA). The distance-based and stochastic uncertainty analysis approaches contained in the program allow a decision to be made with confidence that the alternative chosen is the best performing alternative under the range of probable circumstances. The uncertainty analysis methodology overcomes the limitations of existing sensitivity analysis techniques for MCDA by enabling all of the input parameters to be varied simultaneously within their expected ranges. The Weighted Sum Method (WSM) and PROMETHEE are the MCDA techniques available for the user to select in the program. The program is illustrated by applying it to a sustainable water resource development problem in the Northern Adelaide Plains, South Australia.

                                            Description:
Environmental risk assessment and decision-making strategies over the last several decades have become increasingly more sophisticated, information-intensive, and complex, including such approaches as expert judgment, cost-benefit analysis, and toxicological risk assessment. One tool that has been used to support environmental decision-making is comparative risk assessment (CRA), but CRA lacks a structured method for arriving at an optimal project alternative. Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) provides better-supported techniques for the comparison of project alternatives based on decision matrices, and it also provides structured methods for the incorporation of project stakeholders' opinions in the ranking of alternatives. We argue that the inherent uncertainty in our ability to predict ecosystem evolution and response to different management policies requires shifting from optimization-based management to an adaptive management paradigm. This paper brings together a multidisciplinary review of existing decision-making approaches at regulatory agencies in the United States and Europe and synthesizes state-of-the-art research in CRA, MCDA, and adaptive management methods applicable to environmental remediation and restoration projects. We propose a basic decision analytic framework that couples MCDA with adaptive management and its public participation and stakeholder value elicitation methods, and we demonstrate application of the framework to a realistic case study based on contaminated sediment management issues in the New York/New Jersey Harbor.
