Book Description
Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader offers in-depth portraits of North Korea's two ruthless and bizarrely Orwellian leaders, Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il. Lifting North Korea's curtain of self-imposed isolation, this book will take readers inside a society, that to a Westerner, will appear to be from another planet. Subsisting on a diet short on food grains and long on lies, North Koreans have been indoctrinated from birth to follow unquestioningly a father-son team of megalomaniacs. To North Koreans, the Kims are more than just leaders. Kim Il-Sung is the country's leading novelist, philosopher, historian, educator, designer, literary critic, architect, general, farmer, and ping-pong trainer. Radios are made so they can only be tuned to the official state frequency. "Newspapers" are filled with endless columns of Kim speeches and propaganda. And instead of Christmas, North Koreans celebrate Kim's birthday--and he presents each child a present, just like Santa. The regime that the Kim Dynasty has built remains technically at war with the United States nearly a half century after the armistice that halted actual fighting in the Korean War. This fascinating and complete history takes full advantage of a great deal of source material that has only recently become available (some from archives in Moscow and Beijing), and brings the reader up to the tensions of the current day. For as this book will explain, North Korea appears more and more to be the greatest threat among the Axis of Evil countries--with some defector testimony warning that Kim Jong-Il has enough chemical weapons to wipe out the entire population of South Korea.

Fascinating reading.......2007-08-23
"Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader" is one of those books I knew that I should read, but was not quite ready to take on 800 plus pages of non-fiction.
That is until I started reading it. The knowledge and style of writing of the author has made what I expected to be another dull tome of non-fiction both fascinating and enjoyable.
I hope that Mr. Martin is planning a sequel. I will be standing in line.

Comprehensive and well-informed.......2007-07-15
Profiles of dictatorships are often memoirs of their victims or works of scholars with limited first-hand experience. Not so Bradley Martin's far-reaching profile of North Korea, which is probably unmatched in its variety of sources: numerous personal trips, exhaustively cross-checked defector accounts, and decades of research combine to form one of the few dense books on history and politics that might fairly qualify as a page-turner. A worthwhile purchase for anyone interested in the Asia's security situation or economic future, especially since North Korea sits at the crossroads of major powers like China, South Korea, and Japan.
Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About The DPRK.......2007-07-14
Bradley Martin's "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader" is absolutely outstanding. Simply put, this is everything you've ever wanted to know about the DPRK (and a lot of things you probably could have lived without knowing as well). The author presents the most detailed and objective (as objective as any individual can actually be) analysis of the Kim regime and North Korea that I have seen to date. To characterize Martin's scholarship as substantial would be a gross understatement. This is, from my perspective, the best and most comprehensive resource regarding North Korea currently available and should be required reading for anyone interested in the Hermit Kingdom.
Thorough, thorough, thorough.......2007-07-12
Everyone here has pretty much covered what the book is about. But it's so well-referenced - more than 100 pages of endnotes. There seemed to still be some aspects of North Korean life Mr. Martin was unable to access, but it's about as good as any Westerner will likely be able to do. The Kims are generally portrayed as crazy in the media at large, particularly Kim Jong-il. The book illustrates how, while both men were and are very flawed, they seemed to know exactly what they were doing. One is left with the feeling Kim Jong-Il isn't going anywhere, but after that is anyone's guess.
The perfect dictatorship.......2007-05-20
Bradley K. Martin's (BM) book is an excellent and rather detailed report on how North Korea works.
In his preface, the author reminds us of H.G. Wells' Time Machine and there especially the part where mankind has split into the Eloi and the Morlocks and how they control the Eloi. In Wells' book this process takes about 800,000 years. In North Korea this process was reduced to just over 50 years. The rest of the book explains how this transformation came about.
BM starts off with the biography of Kim Il-sung and there draws quite a bit on the dictator's own publications. He follows this up with the Korean War and Kim Il-sung's elimination of all rivals and establishment of a totalitarian state. He then goes through all the aspects of Korean society and economy. He also goes through the different classes in society, namely, those connected to the top leadership, those who are not and those who have an unclean spot in their past. One does get the impression that every other person fits into that latter category at least once during their lifetime.
There is also a fair bit on Kim Jong-il and his unpopularity. The author shows that it was Kim Il-sung who messed up the economy. Kim Jong-il is blamed for it because he surfaced officially around the time things started to go wrong. However, there is no need to shed any tears, Kim Jong-il is quite a screwy character in his own right. You can read that right through the whole book.
BM gathers all this information through his own trips to the country and through interviews with defectors. Using such information can be a touchy business, but I don't think the author is at risk here because of the large number of people he must have interviewed for this book (one notices that throughout the book). This should allow him to cross-reference information quite thoroughly.
BM also deals with the nuclear issue. He does support a negotiated settlement. In the book, he recounts the testimony of a defector as to what would be necessary to bring such a settlement about. This testimony struck me as if the US is expected to go the distance with North Korea reaping the benefits without any steps of its own apart from (maybe) dismantling its nuclear programme.
Finally, the author looks into the future. He recounts North Korea's economic liberalisation although I am dubious whether these small steps will lead anywhere useful. I agree with him that it is in the common interest in the region that North Korea continues to exist but I find a regime change inconceivable. There are testimonials from various defectors which seem to imply a lot of discontent, but the book as a whole gives the impression of North Korea being the perfect dictatorship, so that opposition could not organise itself in such a way to bring about a large scale uprising.
In the final pages, the author suggests to Kim Jong-il to change his regime into a Thai-style constitutional monarchy, but having read the book I doubt that the `dear leader' is capable of making such a transition.
I urge you to also read the footnotes because there is a lot of additional information in there.
This is excellent stuff. One note of caution though, it is at times a very chilling read.
Book Description
To understand how North Korea has survived as the world's last Stalinist regime, despite international isolation and at enormous human cost to its people, one must look at how its political system was created. The country's foundations were laid in the late 1940s and the 1950s as a result of interaction between the Soviet Stalinist model, imposed from outside, and local traditions. Andrei Lankov traces the formation of the North Korean state and the early years of Kim Il Sung's rule, when the future "Great Leader" and his entourage were consolidating their power base. Surveying the situation in North Korea after 1945, Lankov explores the internal composition of the ruling elite, the role of the Soviets, and the uneasy relations between various politcal groups. He also focuses on how in 1956 Kim Il Sung defeated the only known attempt to oust him and thereby established personal rule beyond either Soviet or Chinese control. The book is based on previously secret Soviet documents from Russian archives, as well as interviews with Russian and Korean participants.
Customer Reviews:
A disjointed book.......2006-12-21
This book seems to be a series of essays or lectures quickly cobbled together in book form. Difficult reading and uninteresting. A disappointing purchase.
Little-known facts abou the early history of North Korea.......2006-01-02
Kudos to Andrei Lankov. Lankov is known for his expertise on North Korea and this book is a great example of his credentials.
Even those who have studied Korean history (in the west and in South Korea) often state that North Korea was erected immediately upon Japanese defeat in World War II. THese pundits claim Stalin had plans to build a friendly communist state in Korea - and Lankov shows this is absolutely untrue.
Lankov is honest enough to admit that he does not have access to all the existing Soviet archival material on the Korean War and on Soviet-North Korean relations between 1945 and 1950. However, he does a great job detailing the early history of political events in northern Korea, from the moment Soviet troops arrived, until the post-Korean War years.
A must, with many facts and easy to read, for anyone who wants a good grasp on the origins of North Korea.
Book Description
Embark on an illustrated journey into one of the world's most isolated nations - North Korea. Juche: A Christian Study of North Korea's State Religion takes you on a journey into North Korea to view what is possibly the most rigidly controlling religious system on the planet - Juche. Through the use of unchallengeable totalitarian power, North Korea's ruling elite enforces Juche ideology in every aspect of the culture. No competing ideologies are permitted. Under the Juche belief system, man is proclaimed God in a nation whose government has officially decided against Christianity for all of its citizens. The majority of North Koreans today have never heard the name of Jesus.
This book explores the various aspects of Juche, including its origins, central teachings, spiritual dimension, and holy sites. It also considers the Juche worldview, propagation of the Juche culture, and Juche as a religion in transition. The journey into North Korea's state religion c!oncludes by considering a biblical view of the future of Juche.
Customer Reviews:
Juche is Atheism.......2005-12-08
Juche is just another form of atheism. It is based on evolution and socialism. Its philosophy is made up of recycled cliches borrowed from secular Western ideas, but it tries to portray itself as an original. The bad thing about Juche is that all North Koreans are forced to believe in it against their will. Self-reliance has turned to self-destruction for North Korea, which completely discredits Juche. The lesson of North Korea is that it is better to be a friend of God than to be an enemy of God.
Useful but Flawed Study.......2005-03-12
Mr. Belke's book is one of the few book-length analyses of the North Korean ideology of Juche. Although not a work of scholarship, this book contains much useful information. Its premise is quite possibly correct: that Kim il Sung and his subordinates created a new religion, with Kim himself as a god and his son Kim Jong Il as some kind of messiah. There's more resemblance to ancient history with its of cult worship of emperor-gods than anything in modern times. What North Korea most definitely is not is a communist or Marxist country. It has morphed into something entirely different, and Belke does a good job of providing background and explanations of this extremist ideology and its results.
Belke however is a Christian fundamentalist and is in the farthest realm of extremism himself. He is a follower of Francis Schaeffer, a protestant minister on the fringes of the Christian Reconstruction movement and Dominionism, which holds that Christians (by their very narrow definition) are destined to rule the earth, and not in a very nice way for non-Christians... The last chapter of the book tries to equate Juche with western humanism, and these pages are useless drivel. If you can ignore the frequent lapses into the fundamentalist Christian ideology of the writer, the book is well worth reading.
An excellent insight into the driving force in North Korea.......2002-05-19
Five stars... yes. I recommend this book for anyone who may have the heart or the desire to learn of North Korea and the forces which shaped its present day existence. I have gazed over the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) and seen the devastation in the land of the North and then by turning slightly to the right seen the prosperity of the South. At that time it became apparent who was walking in the blessing and whom in the curse. This book is an excellent aid to those who feel called to pray for N.K. It covers Juche, the architects of Juche, Korean history, those who have seen the inside of N.K. and the spiritual dimensions of this religion. The most challenging part of reading through the book was not the length but how draining and tedious the N.K. government propaganda is. The author hit the nail on the head when he called it "psycho-babble". I commend Commander Belke for writing this book and Living Sacrifice Books for publishing it.
Interesting look at a very foreign country.......2001-08-20
I suppose the information in this book would shock me much more if I were a really hard core Christian, so the parts about "worship" of Kim il-Sung don't really offend me. The description of the labor camps and everyday life in North Korea is the most shocking part of the whole book. It sounds just like Stalin's Soviet Union, and maybe worse. The persecution of Christians in North Korea represents just a small part of what's going on there...I wonder if its the same for all people who are "different" that live in that country. Unfortuanatly, its hard to tell if ALL the information is true, as is the case with any sort of book on a rogue nation. Hardly any of us have visited these countries, and even those who have have been limited in what they see. Luckily, they do provide a good deal of information from defectors and other people who have left North Korea. Pretty frightening material...
Author remarks.......2001-05-12
-- Quite intriguing to read varying Amazon reviews of "JUCHE."
One reviewer (from NC) seemed to have an anti-Christian "axe to grind" -- which is not surprising given the inherently HOT ideological/spiritual conflict associated with this topic.
Ironically, had any reviewer in North Korea (Christian or otherwise) adversely commented on a pro-Juche book, he/she would end up in a concentration camp!
As one considers the spiritual map of the Korean peninsula, one cannot help but note the dramatic contrast between the North (heavily dominated by the Juche faith) and the South (heavily influenced by the Christian faith).
On his www.adherents.com website, Preston Hunter states, "But today's Juche has developed into a distinct, unique system, and has officially repudiated its Marxist-Leninist roots. While we recognize there may be validity in continued classification of Juche as a highly "heretical" subset of Communism or general secularism, it seems that, on balance, to do so today is no more accurate than continuing to classify Buddhism as a Hindu sect." Ref: http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html#Juche
NOTE: The ADHERENTS website currently ranks Juche as the 10th largest religion in the world.
One might ask, "So what!?" Why is this significant? My answer is that every North Korean's worldview is heavily influenced by the Juche ideology since he/she has been systematically brainwashed with since age 3. Thus, whether one is a diplomat, an international businessman, student, policy analyst, missionary or humanitarian aid worker, etc., one lacks the basic knowledge necessary to understand this radically different way of viewing the world.
For even more detailed (and controversial) information on the spiritual principalities/occult/origins/background of Juche, see my 657-page master's thesis entitled, "JUCHE: The State Religion of North Korea" (available via either the University of Michigan Library or the Regent University Library (www.regent.edu).
For example, there are amazing "coincidences" such as the "Tower of Juche Idea" [555 ft tall obelisk -- pagan (Juche) origins located at 39 degrees N. Latitude] and the "Washington Monument [also 555 ft tall obelish -- pagan (Free-Mason) origins also located at 39 degrees N. Latitude.]
Many specifics regarding the North Korea's spiritual principalities (and origins thereof) are included in the unabridged version of JUCHE. For Korean researchers, Both Rev. Dr. Cho (Senior Pastor, Yoido Full Gospel Church) and the Institute for East Asian Studies (Seoul) also have a copy of the (larger) unabridged version of JUCHE.
Without apology, I do not present JUCHE as a "neutral" book. One candidate (Christian) publisher's CEO asked me if there was any way that I could edit the manuscript such that it "would NOT be offensive to the government of North Korea" (NOT Voice of the Martyrs). Such a request was like asking the Simon Wiesenthal Center to write a book on th Holocaust that would not be offensive to Nazis, neo-Nazis, or Hitler!
Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) was the one publisher that did not find the topic "too hot to handle." Remarkably, VOM had already been scathingly denounced in official North Korean propaganda for anti-totalitarian protests against North Korea that occurred in Europe. So, VOM's decision to publish JUCHE is just another step in their uncompromising dedication to support the persecuted church worldwide and to the uncompromising propagation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In 1945, General Dwight D. Eisenhower ordered his American soldiers to march through, view and film the concentration camps in person so that people could NOT someday claim that, "such a thing did not happen." Eisenhower was NOT neutral about the Nazi's, their regime and their concentration camps -- neither am I regarding Juche, the North Korea regime and their concentration camps.
JUCHE includes a history of North Korea's concentration camps including drawings, policies, etc. For more recent firsthand accounts from North Korean concentration camps, see the new VOM book, "Eyes of the Tailless Animals" (see either Amazon.com or the publisher's (VOM) website (www.persecution.com).
Kindest regards,
Tom

Book Description
In 1910, Japan took control over Korea by military and political force. Then, in 1945, Korea was arbitrarily divided by the Soviet Union and the United States into North and South Korea. The Soviets impeded all United Nations efforts to hold elections and reunite the country under one government. Korea has been struggling for independence and reunification ever since.
In this memoir, Won Tai Sohn recollects the unusually harsh Japanese treatment of Korean people in Korea, Manchuria, China and Japan, and remembers his close relationship with North Korean president Kim Il Sung from their boyhood to President Kim's sudden death in 1994. According to Dr. Sohn, President Kim devoted his entire life to the liberation of Korea, starting with fighting against the Japanese stationed in North Korea and China. He became the first premier of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea when it was established in 1948, and led his nation in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. In 1993, President Kim's nuclear program and defense policy became a great concern for the United States when intelligence analysis estimated that North Korea was less than two years away from being able to strike South Korea and Japan with nuclear missiles. President Kim died two months after talks with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter about ending North Korea's nuclear program.
Customer Reviews:
an important piece of the puzzle that is north korea.......2003-12-28
Do not read Dr. Won Tai Sohn's "Kim Il Sung and Korea's Struggle" if you are seeking a sophisticated political analysis of how Kim Il-song and Kim Chong-il have built and run the North Korean state. But do invest in this book if you seek to know the pain and nationalistic hopes characteristic of the Korean people as they struggled under the yoke of Japanese occcupation from 1910 to 1945. And, above all, do pay close attention to Dr. Sohn's description of his childhood exile in Manchuria, for his family sheltered and worked with the young Kim Il-song in organizing the Korean youths in China to keep alive their love of the motherland.
If your primary interest regarding this book is how the Koreans dealt with the Japanese occupation, then "Kim Il Sung and Korea's Struggle" is well-teamed with Richard Kim's "Lost Names: Scenes from a Korean Boyhood." On the other hand, if your interest lies primarily in Dr. Sohn's first-hand knowledge of Kim Il-song as a youth, then the book is best teamed with Professor Dae Sook Suh's definitive biography of Kim Il-song.

Book Description
The course of world history has often been set by powerful individuals who had an insatiable hunger for power, wealth, fame, and glory. In many cases, these villains have ruled countries and empires with violence and oppression--inflicting their ideals on innocent people.
History's Villains takes a two-sided look at some of history's most influential villains; the series explores simultaneously the influences and experiences that shaped the figure, but does so in the context of the time. What emerges is a unique story about a world that changed a person and a person that changed the world.

Book Description
How does the law regard and define mental incompetence, when faced with the problem of meting out justice? To what extent has the law relied on extra-legal authorities--be they religious or scientific--to frame its own categories of mental incompetence and madness? Wild Beasts and Idle Humours takes us on an illuminating journey through the changing historical landscape of human nature and offers an unprecedented look at the legal conceptions of insanity from the pre-classical Greek world to the present. Although actual trial records are either totally lacking or incomplete until the eighteenth century, there are other sources from which the insanity defenses can be constructed.
In this book Daniel Robinson, a distinguished historian of psychology, pores over centuries of written law, statements by legal commentators, summaries of crimes, and punishments, to glean from these sources an understanding of epochal views of responsibility and competence. From the Greek phrenesis to the Roman notions of furiosus and non compos mentis, from the seventeenth-century witch trials to today's interpretation of mens rea, Robinson takes us through history and provides the intricate story of how the insanity defense has been construed as a meeting point of the law and those professions that chart human behavior and conduct: namely religion, medicine, and psychology. The result is a rare historical account of "insanity" within western civilization.
Wild Beasts and Idle Humours will be essential reading for anyone interested in the evolution of thinking not merely about legal insanity but about such core concepts as responsibility, fitness for the rule of law, competence to enter into contracts and covenants, the role of punishments, and the place of experts within the overall juridical context.
Customer Reviews:
Not for the Non-Specialist Reader.......2001-09-30
Daniel N. Robinson's Wild Beasts and Idle Humours (The Insanity Defense from Antiquity to the Present) sounds and looks more fun than it actually will be for the average reader without a sure grounding in legal, philosophical and psychological theory and history. The author does indeed cover the period from antiquity to the present, as per the sub-title, and provides many interesting ideas along the way, taking a rather conservative approach, but there are also many cases and people just dropped into the book without any explanation on the assumption that the reader will be familiar with all of these legal cases and philosophers from the past two centuries. A grounding in classical and medieval history (with luck I did have that) will help the reader manage the first part of the book. For students of legal history, this book could prove quite interesting and, perhaps, invaluable as the author makes a clever attempt to bring ideas of insanity as far back as the writings of Homer and Hesiod. For this poor soul, the book was a struggle with a few rewards along the way.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
