After reading Stepping Out of the Bubble a year ago, I went back and read it again for a second time. I was able to pick up even more information this time around that helped me understand and overcome some of my own internal conflicts. This is a book you can read at any point in your life and always find information that pertains to that particular moment. Krehbiel has a way of explaining things that others may consider unexplainable. Whether you are a student, a teacher, or just a guy like me, this book can and will change your life.

A practical resource for better living.......2006-03-27

For me, "Stepping Out Of The Bubble" was reminiscent of the renowned books of author, M. Scott Peck, in the style of presenting profound insights into sensible, easy-to-understand language and clear ideas an average person can relate to. Practicing Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist and author of "Stepping Out Of The Bubble", James Krehbiel proficiently shares a portion of his expertise, condensing great weight into accessible and workable solutions for a more fulfilling life's plan.

The "bubble" represents our security and comfort zone, but it is also the inner place where we store the pain of our past experiences and the unpleasant reality of that not being made conscious which keeps us bound in unhealthy and self-defeating patterns. Staying within this bubble limits our emotional responsiveness as we numb ourselves to the coexistence even as unresolved issues unconsciously filter forth. To step outside of the bubble is to courageously examine the contents in all honesty and to face life's reality outside of the bubble. Once outside the bubble, one can move forward to experience life in more emotional depth, fullness and passion. "Being a fully functioning individual is about being true to whom you are and letting things be the way they are," explains author, James Krehbiel.

With brilliant and compassionate understanding, Mr. Krehbiel briefly details methods used and pertinent case examples within his therapy practice. "Self-regulation is a goal of therapy. I educate people in the fact that all the answers are ultimately within." "Stepping Out Of The Bubble" strives to do the same, by giving information on how we become trapped in the bubble and how beneficial the making of conscious choices to leave, can be.

Some of the many topics included within this book are: being assertive, characteristics of an "authentic" person, the integration of each of our different personality parts, the difference between true guilt and false guilt, setting boundaries, addictions and addictions to "manic" relationships, awareness (staying in the moment or mindfulness), grounding, honoring one's inner voice, panic attacks, OCD and mood disorders. The section regarding kids and parenting was exceptional, in my opinion, and I found many points about discipline that made much sense. Also appreciated was the section relating to religion (dogma) versus faith (spiritual) as well as what needed to be said about pop culture.

I enjoyed reading "Stepping Out Of The Bubble" and would recommend it to anyone. It is enriching and inspirational.

Stepping Out Of The Bubble by James P. Krehbiel, Is an outstanding book on Counseling Therapy. Krehbiel, is able to put life patterns and fears into perspective so that the lay person can fully understand the mystery that most think is behind counseling. His approach to show that so much of what we seek answers for is within ourselves and with the right counsellor we can become free and step out of the Bubble or Bubbles that a lot of us are in.

This book should be a gift to every teen and their parents, no home should be without it.

Gaining Courage to Live Outside of the Bubble.......2006-02-25

James P. Krehbiel's Stepping Out of the Bubble was a fascinating read. I found myself underlining various passages. His explanation of how we get stuck in the bubble (comfort zone), and how we find our way out is powerful. It provided me with hope as I move through my own personal journey. I found myself experiencing an emotional reaction to many of the case examples and concepts he explored. He definitely hit some "hot buttons" in my life. But Mr. Krehbiel also provided specific guidelines and tools for stepping out of the bubble. At one point he says, "Courage can be defined by those who live outside the bubble as opposed to those who live in it. I like to compare stepping out of the bubble to wading into the water."

His chapter which includes ideas on multidimensional thinking is appropriate in today's political climate. He indicates that true dialogue takes into consideration the appreciation for differences in opinions. He makes some profound statements about pop culture's affect on the lives of today's children. He also gives parents tools and resources for assisting their children in bettering their behavior. The book ends with a resounding "yes" to life with a hopeful, powerful way of perceiving and reframing life's problems. This was an excellent book!

My Review of a Great Book.......2006-02-23

"Stepping Out of the Bubble : Reflections On the Pilgrimage of Counseling Therapy by James P. Krehbiel is an amazing and outstanding book that provides help and direction to the many people that are suffering from problems described in this book.

I was amazed at how many of the problems and challenges, that the author writes about, are problems and challenges I have seen many people suffer with.

The counseling theory and practice information in this book provides a direction for people that have a problem and are willing to go to counseling and risk moving forward in their journey toward finding personal growth and development, and eventually stepping out of the bubble.

Many people have problems and challenges that they never seek help for and they and their loved ones continue to suffer. This book goes a long way in bringing the thought of counseling to people and helping people to better understand the counseling process.

To author James P. Krehbiel thank you for writing your great book. I am convinced your book will help many people and because of your book many more people will step out of the bubble. I recommend this book very highly and also feel it would be a great college text.

Winston's essays are chock full of interesting insights into a variety of biblical passages. Though his writing style can be dense, you'll finish each essay with a more thorough understanding for how to manage and lead better.

Even as an enlisted member in the US Air Force this book is a real tool on how to be a good leader and follower. It gave me great insight on how to give the most to my leadership and receive the best out of those I lead. As this book helped spark a desire to improve my personal and spirtual life, it also gave me a matched desire to improve the quality of my every day work.

I've reviewed other books of interviews with the thoughts and success stories of proven leaders conducted by Mr. Wright. Mr. Wright has prepared a series of books where he interviews some of the most prominent leaders in America today, and this book is no less beneficial that the others. While anyone can collect the thoughts and experiences of leaders, the true success of Mr. Wright's books can be measured by the questions he asks. They are insightful and focused, and designed to draw out the thinking, experiences, and anecdotes from each individual.

Mr. Wright also provides the reader with a diverse cross-section of leaders, allowing a truly comprehensive overview of what these people individually and collectively have achieved. His book flows nicely and the thoughtful approach he uses to provide his audience a great read is excellent. The reader is also treated to real-life experiences and the common characteristics leaders possess. The book is not only outstanding, but a text on what it takes to lead and win. Once again, I highly recommend Mr. Wright's books. They should be part of any library, including home libraries, and every college and university would be well advised to look at these books for any management class. This is what it takes in the real world. Well done sir, well done.

Golden nuggets wrapped in fascinating interviews!.......2005-02-20

Its so difficult to go through the thousands of leadership books "out there" and know what to buy and what to ignore. The biggest problem is that the reader, or aspiring business leader, never really knows what is real and what is filler cranked out by some author looking to fill up another 5 pages.

Leadership Defined, though, is different. It has real-world interviews with real-world leaders doing real-world activities in today's real world. In other words, this book takes you into both the hearts, minds and experiences of some of today's most fascinating people. I'm not sure if I like the Interview - Interviewee format, but that's what was used, and somehow it seems to work.

Among the two dozen contemporary leaders interviewed for this book, Alan Keyes is certainly the most polished. Then again, he's a professional diplomat. Patrick Atkinson is certainly the leader who speaks most from the heart, from his experiences, and with the greatest gut feeling of reality behind him. This makes sense, given his many many years of developing and directing clinics, schools, women advocacy centers, and other charities in war zones and poverty areas around the world.

Well Written History.......2004-08-13

This book does a superb job of placing the legal decisions of the Civil War era within the complex and exciting times in which they took place. Samuel Freeman Miller is a fascinating and important figure.

A splendid biography.......2004-07-21

The appointment of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Freeman Miller by President Lincoln was perhaps his best decision before the Civil War. Miller's life story is well written by Dr. Ross and perhaps will be the definitive study of the man for generations to come.
Ross provides new insights into Supreme Court cases, such as the Slaughter House rulings and other important judicial issues of the Civil War and Reconstruction. But perhaps what is Ross's finest work is his ability to articulate Miller's character. The author's background on the Justice fully prepared the reader for understanding why Miller voted on a certain issue. In doing so, the reader can clearly comprehend the various court decisions of that era.
Clearly, the judicial system of the Civil War is one of the few areas of that time period with insufficient attention. Ross's book will hopefully ignite a spark to this unknown subject of American history.

More than a biography of Miller.......2003-12-16

Justice of Shattered Dreams is a well-balanced blend of history, law, economics and biography. The author provides a succinct and well-written summary of such topics as popular sovereignty, the tension over the Kansas/Nebraska issue, the recalcitrance of the South during Reconstruction, and the legal battles between capitalist bondholders and small town populists. Ross, who has a J.D. from Duke, provides insightful legal summaries of Dred Scott, Ex Parte Merryman, the Prize cases, Ex parte Milligan, the Legal Tender cases, as well as the Slaughterhouse cases for which Miller is most remembered. Ross's analysis of Ex Parte Milligan resonates today vis-a-vis the legal arguments over the status of the internees at Guantanamo Bay. There is just enough legal analysis to explain the theory of the decisions without overpowering the non-lawyer reader, and just enough facts to convey the essence of the case and its background.

The book is interesting because it is not a true biography of a Supreme Court justice. It blends the economic background and the societal tensions that were present during Miller's lifetime. Additionally, Ross makes some very good points on Reconstruction and reinforces why Reconstruction, in some ways, was just as decisive as slavery in fracturing the country - a legacy that continues today much to the dismay of the modern Democratic party. Ross's analysis of how railroads and railroad bridges destroyed the small western towns is very informative; again, Ross provides a good, cogent synopsis of an economic issue. Overall, this is an interesting and informative book that ties together divergent strands of history and presents a cohesive snapshot of our country between the 1850's and 1870's.

Vespasiano da Bisticci (b. 1421) was a Florentine bookseller known as the most celebrated dealer of books and manuscripts of his generation. The renewed interest in Greek and Roman texts brought about by the rise of humanism inspired many wealthy individuals to seek codices of the best ancient and early Christian works. Vespasiano's bookshop became a meeting place for learned men, and he acquired patrons as illustrious as Cosimo de'Medici, Federigo da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino, Mathias Corvinus, the King of Hungary, and John Tiptoft, Earl of Worchester. The invention of the printing press proved to be too much competition for da Bisticci, and he retired to write his memoirs and biographical sketches of his friends and patrons.

Vespasiano da Bisticci's memoirs are a valuable resource in the history of politics, warfare and intellectual history, written from the perspective of an intelligent man who was able to watch and comment on the events of his age from a privileged position.
