Southeast Asia is going through tremendous changes economically. The market-oriented economies of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand have been showing robust growth since the 1960s. The transitional economies of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam are exhibiting signs of economic awakening and revival after years of internal political and social turmoil. Despite these encouraging signs, the region still has a long road ahead in its efforts to achieve developed nation status.
This book is a serious and concise study of various important economic aspects of Southeast Asia. The existing economic studies of the region are mainly topical in nature. Most books attempt to offer only a partial treatment of the issues and fail to examine these issues in a holistic manner. The objective of this book is to provide a more complete cross-country discussion on the economic issues and problems facing Southeast Asia. Besides critically examining the multiple facets of changes and problems that have been and will be encountered by Southeast Asia, the book presents a lucid exposition of the prospects of the region. However, it does not stop there but moves on to provide pointers and suggestions on how Southeast Asian countries should proceed with their development options and processes. The book should be of interest to economists and graduate students researching on Southeast Asia. It will also be extremely useful to those who want to have a better understanding of the Southeast Asian region.

I just bought this book and I couldn't put it down. Feldman's book is very helpful for someone who works in a kindergarten. The book is detailed, organized, well-structured. I recommend this book to all future preschool teachers!
My Stress Is Gone!!!.......2006-06-05
I am about to start teaching in a few weeks and this book is a LIFESAVER!! It gives me endless pointers on being a great preschool teacher. Since I graduated from college two years I needed a bit of a refresher course to prepare me and this book was the ticket. I will definitely refer to it many, many times during my course of teaching while using these methods and passing them on to my fellow teachers.

I found this book to be a wonderful guide for my first year of teaching pre-K. The book is well organized into very pertinent, practical chapters full of great, easy-to-do ideas and strategies for addressing the needs of young students. I shared this book with a vetran teacher who was equally impressed with the content. It is a great value and a quick, enjoyable, informative read.
A Great Book For Writing Your Long Range Plan.......2004-09-05
Even though the book does not present a particularly aesthetically pleasing appearance, this book spills over with ideas that I never thought about(like the "Letter Puppets"). Parts of my long range plan sprang directly from this book. Dr. Feldman continues to inspire my teaching.

I LOVE this book! This is by far one of the most useful literacy books for kindergarten that I have ever read! It is packed with fabulous activities! I would highly recommend it to all kindergarten teachers!!!
AWESOME TOOL FOR EMERGENT READERS.......2005-10-01
I have just started using this book, but it offers a great variety of tools and ideas young children need to prepare for reading. It ties together all of the different areas needed to prepare a child for reading. It covers all of the bases, it even has a listing with each activity to show you which skills will be included, for example, letter recognition, auditory or visual discrimination, matching,reading...An abundance of information for the price.

In the 10 years I've been teaching kindergarten - I have not found a more useful book than Dr. Feldman's Ready, Set Read. I attended one of Dr. Feldman's conferences in the fall of last year and by January over half my kindergarten class was reading well and really enjoying the fun activities from the book - easy to use - obviously tested in the classroom - because they work - and not a lot of "fluff" with no meaning - also easy to work into any curriculum because it's not a "set" program - I can't say enough about her titles - they've really changed my teaching - thanks .

I haven't used a transition book by anyone else to compare, bu thtis book is incredibly detailed. It has discipline, morning, circle, attention getting, games, rhymes, chants, stories...and then What, Why, When, How and preperation information for each activity. And their are hundreds of them! I use it for my own 3 kids and the 3 extra I watch for daycare.

None of these techniques will revolutionize your classroom, but Jean Feldmen organizes this book (like all of her books) with masterful structure.
Separating the chapters by activity and sub-organizing each chapter by topic allows a teacher to economically turn to the transition she needs with little time to spare. The Discipline and Attention Getter chapters will save tons of time!
One added bonus: Black and white pages that copy easily on any copy machine.

I am ordering this book, my current volume of this book is from the library. This is an excellent book. I am a day care provider, and my children were thrilled with all the stuff we found inside this book. All of the materials were easy to get too. I highly recommend it to any teacher of preschoolers and up; and to every day care provider.

There are interesting activities for math, language, science and art centers along with easy group games with emphasis on having fun rather than competition. This book even contains fun recipes children can prepare with little help and ideas for special celebrations. These ideas are divided into convenient categories which makes finding the "right" activity a breeze. This is a must-have handbook for early childhood educators!

Solid. Meticulously Organized. Developmentally Approrpriate.
I use these words to describe this book, but its activities mirror Feldeman's other book (TRANSITION TIME!) too closely to invest in both books.
Please get either book by Feldeman. You don't need both unless you want more of excellence. I don't think you can ever get enough transition knowledge.
